I've played path of exile and quite enjoyed that. Is it relatively similar?
I mean they're both the same genre but beyond that no not really. I would say grim dawn has a way better story and more immersive atmosphere, way better build system, and more focused game systems. Poe's skill tree is just far to massive and complicated to really enjoy, imo, whereas grim dawn it's easy to just look at the more compact skill lists for your class and just easily see builds, and then when you start multiclassing it really opens up. The biggest downsides are the mostly static nature of the maps (though poe suffers from the same) and some parts are a little too much of a slog but they're really rare. Also the game engine is very very old at this point.
