I’ll have one and a half days worth of free time. What is something I absolutely must do in that time? I’ve never been there.

Depends what you're into and where you're coming from.

  • if you're into history, there's the site of the Boston Massacre, with the Old State House adjacent; also Faneuil Hall, and the Boston Commons. (Faneuil Hall had a small museum upstairs and an open-air mall adjacent with lots of food places btw) if you like cemeteries, there are colonial-era examples by the Commons and in the North End, there are several historical churches downtown as well. etc.

  • if you're into colleges, the Harvard and MIT campuses have some nice buildings, you can usually wander around there during the day.

  • see if the theater district is showing anything while you're there. it's not Broadway, but it's not bad either.

  • the Boston area has a wide variety of restaurants from different countries.

  • think about your hobbies or crafts. then search for a store or club or organization related to that in Boston, there's probably something related. for example there were several small places that built/repaired antique musical instruments, several gaming shops, several shops for stamps and collectibles etc.

Finally, Boston has a variety of "tour buses" with various themes that drive around downtown, and some that go in the water, they can be worth checking out.

They've got a really cool aquarium - the main tank stretches over several floors and is spectacular.

I haven't been there in years, but (not a sports fan at all) Boston made going to a ball game a real treat! Crazy fans, lots of fun!

MIT was really neat, and the Commons was awesome.

The aquarium is amazing. I spent too much time hanging with the penguins.

If you like art mesuems, check out any number of theirs. Our favorite is the Boston Fine Arts, but there lot of awesome smaller ones as well.

Faneuil Hall is a really cool, historic shopping center to spend some time at.

Boston Burger Co has some very excellent burgers for decent pricing, a few locations through Boston and surrounding.

Can never go wrong hitting the aquarium or the Franklin Park Zoo.

I don’t know why, but I got really excited at the mention of burgers. I appreciate all of the suggestions!

There’s also a new Gordon Ramsay Burger right near Faneuil hall

There's the Museum of Science, Fanueil Hall, Fenway park (even a tour if there is no game), the freedom trail, and tons more

Freedom Trail is definitely on the list! The others could be fun, too. Finding the time for everything will be the hardest part.

I second the Museum of Science! It's a lot of fun.
