When you see those Veterans' Day parades and a tiny number of WW2 and Korea vets marching...

If you haven't seen it, "Orphan Black" is a BBC show about a group of clones being hunted down by their creators.

One actress played about 20 different roles in the series; and there were a few scenes where all the clones were in the same room together.

Great show and a masterclass in acting.

There really is no such thing as 'The USA.'

I live in New York City and what's cool here will get you arrested in other places.

Some towns are fine with you having a rifle on open display. Some towns are fine with you smoking pot on the street.

Click bait that actually makes me glad I clicked???

The good old days, right?

If we get a consensus on the Left it will be the first time ever.

"I can't support Bernie! He's not a real Socialist, he's a Social Democrat!!"

Listen to your SO's friends and [close] family.

Your SO talks to them about what they really want.

Seeing as how it would take at least a billion dollars to even get such a party off the ground, you can be assured that the mainstream media would treat it with respect.

I think that the only reason the Greens and the Libertarians managed to get national status was that the GOP wanted to have someone to drain off D support.

How about we drop all the distinctions and just say "good for regular people"?

Mostly.

Think the world would be all sunshine and friendship if the Saudi princes had the US arsenal? Putin? The people at the top didn't get there because they played nice and shared their toys.

Be careful what you wish for.

I'm sorry, but that's an absolute fantasy.

When have you seen anything like that level of international co-operation?

And have you stopped to think that there are a lot of rich and powerful people with a strong vested interest in keeping things going the way they are.

I read a collection of comics from the 1950s. There were stories about Hannibal, Julius Ceasar, Emperor Claudius, and other historical figures. The issue with Civil War stories covered topics like the Emancipation Proclamation. Today we don't put anything in kids' media that can't be sold.

EC titles like 'Valor,' and 'Frontline Combat.'

You can't copywrite a "Hannibal" action figure.

Reminds me of an off topic story.

"Fables" was a comic book whose main idea was that the characters from all the fairy tales were living in one neighborhood in Manhattan.

The TV networks like the idea, so they stole it. Twice.

I like the Libertarian classic novel "The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress."

On the other hand, I can spned three hours pointing out all the ways the author had to massage reality to make his society work.

Here's a very brief explanation of what happened.

In 1960 minimum wage was $1.00/hour and the price of the average US home was $11,000.00 A popular tour guide was called "Europe on $5.00 A Day" [over the years they did specific cities like Paris or Rome or London...]

In 1964 LBJ decides that he can win the War in Vietnam with a massive buildup and increased bombings. He prints paper money to pay for it, because he doesn't want to raise taxes. The plan is a miserable failure and protests force LBJ to step aside. In 1968 we elect 'peace candidate' Nixon [who sabotaged the Paris Peace Talks]

Nixon kept LBJ's plan and increased spending. He knew the War was unwinnable but thought he could kick the problem down the road and let the 1976 President deal with 'losing' the war.

By 1976 inflation was a major problem, not helped by the Arab Oil Boycott that tripled the price of gas overnight. All those cool loft buildings you see in places like Manhattan used to be small factories making things like purses, clothing, toys etc etc. The owners moved the businesses to the US south where there were fewer Unions.

Jimmy Carter hired a man named Paul Volker to deal with inflation. Carter got voted out before the Volker plan could kick in, so Reagan got the credit for Carter's ideas.

Reagan's own Veep, George HW Bush called the Reaganomics trickle down "voo doo economics" until Reagan offered him the #2 spot on his ticket.

In 1968, when Nixon started waging War with paper money, "middle class" was one Union job paying for a family of four with a nice savings account. In those days, $1 million was still considered a vast fortune. By 1992, when Bush Sr. was finished, middle class was two incomes to run the house and $1 million was what a rich guy paid for a party.

No. There really was a time when FDR's New Deal raised millions out of poverty and gave them a taste of the good life.

Every time I hear someone online talk about wanting a war, I ask them how many bullets they have personally caught.

Before WW1 many folks thought that a war might be a good thing, because it would help things settle down.

Drag yourself to the local store that sells chairs etc.

What is comfortable for one person is torture for another. Somethings have to be purchased hands on.

If you're sitting for more than an hour straight that's probably the problem.

OSHA rules demand that anyone sitting for more than 90 minutes straight get a 40 minute break.

Stop torturing yourself.

My personal theory is that the GOP will do a hostile takeover of the Libertarians if the ever become too unpopular.

Also, they don't drain off support, because the Libertarians almost always vote R when it counts. You notice that Green Party Jill was active this cycle and you didn't hear about the Libertarians once.

More voters should have listened to Bernie.

He told people what to do.

People talk about "the Dems" like they are a monolith.

AOC unseated a long term Congress member who was tightly connected to the New York power structure. She did it by hitting the streets and talking to the locals. She built up voter support and won her primary.

I know it's an uphill battle, but it is possible to change things.

That's unrealistic. You think the fall of America is going to be a simple affair? Here's just one reason it won't. All those aircraft carriers and submarines full of nuclear weapons. What happens with those?

Be careful what you wish for.

LBJ thought he could win Vietnam with a single bold stroke. Nixon knew the War was unwinnable, but once the US forces were bogged down he kept redoubling down. LBJ made a terrible mistake, but it was Nixon who really screwed things up.

What happens with those?

What happens when the crews stop getting paid? You think they are just going to walk away? You think those weapons will just disappear?

What makes you think the next boss is going to be any better?

Like I said, very brief...

How did one so young gain such wisdom?

I have no idea why someone down voted something that obvious.

The funny thing is that people vote for the GOP to save the economy but they are the ones who have ruined the economy on a regular basis/

Marx never wrote about lunch, so we shouldn't eat anything!

I'm a life long New Yorker, and I've watched with horror as Donald went from being a local joke to a national menace.

Beyond any political ideology, you have to realize that Trump is a thug and a bully.

He's hated in Atlantic City because he refused to pay so many small businesses. He'd come in like a white knight, sign a great contract, then let his lawyers screw over people who couldn't afford to keep fighting a decades long trial.

Back in 2016 they did a panel of all the creators of the TV political dramas. West Wing, Veep, Scandal, House of Cards, and all the rest.

All the creators said the same thing; if they'd had a character who said he 'liked soldiers who didn't get captured' the networks and advertisers would have demanded that character be shown to be hated by all Americans.

I blame everybody who didn't vote against Trump.

I blame the informed voters more than the ignorant idiots.

Genocide in Palestine will now be followed by a genocide in Ukraine.

And kiss any climate action good-bye.

We were in a class talking about X-rays. One young woman kept insisting that 'opaque' was a color. We finally figured out that she had seen opaque pantyhose and been confused.

Anyone who didn't vote for Harris is just as guilty.

So, now those voters have genocide in Gaza and a new one in Ukraine, plus the people who are dying because they can't get medical abortions.

Great job.

So, now we're looking at genocides in Gaza and Ukraine and the possibility of mass arrests in America.

Congratulations.

If people die because of your moral stand, it's not really that moral.

Thank you.

He said that he thought his DI did a good job of teaching him to be a responsible adult.

Look up 'The Bonus Army.' Those guys were all military veterans. They were also some of the most radical people in US history. When they came to Washington they tried to keep discipline like they'd been taught.

If forcing young people to act responsibly is 'fascist,' then every coach, teacher, and sensei is a fascist.
