Welp this is scary.

Bangkok's colourful street vendor scene is about to change and disappear with the upcoming rules.

I am a bit puzzled at European response to the Ukraine invasion. The initial support was slow (obviously due to economic ties to Russia). It took sometime to galvanize some meat into the assistance being provided to Ukraine. Still not seeing leadership being taken on this issue by any of the bigger NATO nations (i.e. Germany, France). Part of this I suspect is that they are playing it smart by letting US take the leadership AND fund the Ukrainian defense thus costing them little. Part of it is perhaps the belief that Russia won't touch non-former USSR countries. But what European countries should realize is, the current world order depends on respecting the borders. If one country is allowed to take territories from another by hot conflict, we're going to see more of this elsewhere in the world, including in Europe! Threat of war, and wars are the enemy of trade, investment, and economic growth. It will impact Europe directly or indirectly.

I hope it works.

It's more like he doesn't need it anymore since he's got that new billion dollar palace now.

lol is this what passes for "scandal" in Japan? They are so fortunate.

NSFL. This is particularly gruesome:

The official confirmation came after photos circulated on messaging app WhatsApp depicting a severed head on top of a pick-up truck, appearing to be that of Arcos. Reuters could not independently verify the photos' authenticity.

What a piece of shit. And this guy was running US foreign policy? Wow. Saudis must be regretting paying this man $40m a year to manage their billions.

Funny thing is this kind of behaviour isn't unique to Musk. A lot of entrepreneurs and CEOs seem to have similar kind of attitude. They want everything done cheaper faster and there's no 2 ways about it. It's their way or highway. If shit goes to hell it's other people's heads that roll.

Erasing the ethnic identity of the Mongolians. Suppress Mongolian nationalism. This is a playbook of the Han Chinese not just since CCP but centuries before. This is what they are doing to the Uyghurs right now. They are flooding Tibet with massive Han migration so that Tibetans become a minority and eventually assimilate them over time so that Tibetans as an identity will disappear. They are known for erasing histories of people they do not like, re-write history to fit the narrative of the current dynasty. Some of the most disruptive archaeological discoveries have been evidences of people and civilizations that have no recorded history in Chinese history as maintained by the Mandarins. That's what they are doing.

Here are some pics of Chinese boarding Philippine vessels with axes swords and pointed weapons: (https://x.com/TeamAFP/status/1803423024449986581).

This kind of tactic is reminiscent of the Chinese style of combat on the border with India.

And their crime was running from a war at home where their homes had been burned to the ground by a military junta.

I found this part interesting: ""We were unprepared for that kind of response," Philippine navy spokesperson Roy Trinidad said in a phone interview on Thursday. "We stuck with the rules of engagement. They were not allowed to use guns except for self defence.""

So China created the conditions for this kind of confrontation by including non-use of guns in confrontations, similar to its border with India. And then proceeds to create this aggression with swords and spears. Philippines was too naive. China is escalating tensions there, taking things to the edge of sparking a hot war without having one.

Time to put sanctions on China. This would be interesting.

This I believe is an intended effect of Chinese government's shift away from depending on housing investment as primary factor in driving growth - to bring home affordability back as home ownership has become a deterrent to marriages and child-rearing, both in severe decline and the biggest long term strategic threat to China.

The interesting is that it was Pentagon and not CIA or NSA.

Not only did they ban it, but they also barred its leaders from running in elections for 10 years: https://lemmy.ca/post/26497747.

Reuters and AP articles are INCOMPLETE.

They are freaking crazy. This court doesn't understand "democracy" if they think advocating for a law change is anti-democratic.

These people have lived all their lives on the seas for thousands of years roaming the seas in Southeast Asia hopping from island to island. Nobody's restricted their movements till now.

Good good! Let the exodus to Lemmy begin!

United States of Aristocracy.

Now we know the real reason why Chinese are invading its neighbors in South China Sea.

A lot of money for poor refugee families who lost their homes to the war in Myanmar running from there and having no livelihood (likely was subsistence farming in the rugged hills of Chin state) no status in India to earn wages in India.

Oh this is like that tv show becoming reality.

Basically trying to bring Ukraine back to stone age. Ukraine needs to do the same to Russia. War is fucked.

Rest in peace.

It is worth noting that China is supplying arms to both sides of the conflict.

Reposting my comment in Myanmar here to answer. It isn't on charm offensive. This situation is interesting because China is the one arming both sides of the conflict. China is the chief arms supplier to the military Junta whose weapons have been killing civilians. It is with Chinese blessing and Chinese weapons that guerilla group Brotherhood Alliance launched its 1027 operation last year that’s been highly successful against the Junta.

China has in the past gone alone (while rejecting participation of regional and other global powers) in brokering peace in Burma forcing both the Junta and the guerillas to sit down at meetings in southern China without participation of other regional countries. China has been the one meeting with Burma’s current and former dictators in past two months, including Wang's visit to Myanmar 2 days ago.

In an about-face, China is now seeking greater regional cooperation in Burma’s internal affairs. It may well be that the situation is spinning out of control for China, and Chinese are worried their strategic interests are now poised to crumble in Myanmar.
