That should just tell you exactly what’s happening; different methods of profiting. They don’t worry about trying to improve online play because they have the ability to resell the same game every year. If other games could do that, they would.

lol kinda off topic but holy shit they could not have more pointedly made an unflattering comparison in those side by side photos if they tried the rest of their lives. Hilarious.

Let the death of Saburo Arasaka be a lesson to us all: even 150+ year old bastards can get choked the fuck out

Wasn’t she like 17 at the time

Even if the creators weren’t pissed, the entire selling point of streaming was on demand, ad free, and a large library to choose from. Every single streaming service that subdivided Netflix and Hulu’s content shares have reneged on that entire concept by creating smaller libraries, making them unaffordable, and now they’re shoehorning in ads if we won’t cough up more money.

It’s almost like a moral imperative to pirate from these fuckers.

Surprising that any groomer would do this. You’re really not supposed to shave huskies, they have a natural undercoat that you’re not supposed to fuck with, it’s what regulates their temperature naturally.

Further advice regarding civil disobedience:

LEAVE YOUR PHONES AT HOME. Write down some numbers in case you get arrested—or better yet, memorize them. There are journalists there for documenting. And there will be plenty of other people that don’t follow this advice. Leave anything they could use as leverage over you and your cohorts away. Don’t bring ID. Don’t bring anything except what you need for the action. It’s not worth the risk.

ETA: also, any of you with a new car? DONT DRIVE THAT SHIT TO ANY MEETING OR PROTEST. They’re spying on you. Don’t post about it. Don’t use any unencrypted messaging service to coordinate it—WhatsApp is not safe. Signal and probably some other less common ones are the only ones safe enough. Ride a bike there, stash it in a conveniently hidden spot. Bring a change of clothes, plan escape routes, plant the change of clothes either hidden on your escape route or wear them under your plain clothes. Cover tattoos. Leftist activists are not safe. And literally the rest of your life could depend upon how well protected you have made yourself.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/feb/10/felony-charges-pipeline-protesters-line-3

So many states have pretty quietly passed laws to make you a felon for protesting. Even peacefully. And to make you a fuckin corpse. In the south especially, a few states were writing “go ahead, run over any protester in the road” laws.

Be smart. Be safe. Have a plan. Have a contingency plan. This isn’t “fuck around with the blunt end of the justice system and find out” territory, in 2024 US, it’s time to be as safe as you can while doing what’s right. Because doing what’s right is criminalized. Heavily.

Bose Quiet Comfort II true wireless headphones.

I’d been toying with the idea forever. My earbuds are old, a little bulky, have some connectivity issues when one disconnects and it takes a lot of fussing to get them reconnected. So I decided to spend the money.

I get them from B&H. I get home, put them in, one of them has some sound issues—but other than that, the sound and fit were perfect. Like, they were my glass slipper. They fit perfectly, the seal was perfect, they wouldn’t ever hurt my ears after extended use…I was shocked.

But.

Having issues with one, I started messing with them, seeing if could get support or troubleshoot. Of course the first thing in the box is a QR for their app. Now, I never fuck with physical products apps. If I need an app, chances are I won’t use your shit. But I really wanted these to work, so I go to the app, and dig through the privacy policy.

Two addenda later, they’re trying to get me to sign the most obscene privacy policy ever. Listen to/record everything I play, collect a profile on me, listen to any ambient noise around the microphone, and weirdly, “map my head shape and movements?”

I deleted that app as quickly as I could. So I go to their support page on their site. Get into a chat with their customer service bot. It says, “replying to this message is agreement to our privacy policy.” So I open the link, read it…it kinda seems reasonable. Just talking about using my chat responses for training, standard. But then THREE layers of addenda deep I find here trying to get me to sign THE EXACT SAME FUCKIN POLICY.

I ran those fuckers back to the store. But not before trying to get someone on the phone about the legal matters. Yeah, nah. They wouldn’t connect me to someone in their legal dept. In fact, the very request seemed to puzzle them to no end.

FUCK BOSE. READ YOUR PRIVACY POLICIES.

Not even just people…his own dad. Who seems to have worked hard to give this douchebag what he has in life. And all it took was the scum fanning the flames of his hatred for ad money and airtime.

"If this energy was directed to our MPs and senators, maybe there would be sufficient funding and resources to resolve public housing waitlists," said a spokesperson for the Real Estate Institute of Australia.

This is the most aggravating part of the article for me. This will force policy change way faster than “putting that energy into pushing representatives.” Which is twice removed from the issue.

He’s helping people find shelter, AND he’s causing a huge stir, taking it worldwide, and making news. THIS is the type of direct action that we need.

Less incrementalism, more fucking over landlords and making the ownership class uncomfortable.

Well, it could be depending on how robust their anti corruption practices are. Because what really makes more sense, 12 citizens, uneducated in law and its application, getting manipulated by differing levels of millionaire depending on the wealth of the defendant/plaintiff? Or a legal expert weighing the facts to determine their strength?

Because, both are open to corruption. The jury of your peers is open to corruption in the ways I’m sure most people on lemmy are familiar with, but the other way, with robust anti corruption laws, would arguably be better.

Isn’t it fucking crazy that “industry demands ____” is likely to come to fruition, but “group of individuals demands XYZ” isn’t likely to change shit?

I demand better living conditions. We all demand an economy that doesn’t favor the rich. Not shit will change.

Companies “demand” shit and then just literally write the laws and hand them to legislators who pass them.

Did you guys read the article? It’s all about how since google and Reddit penned a deal to use Reddit to train google AI models, google is now massively pushing Reddit links in search results.

And their answer, ironically, is to avoid “Gen-AI garbage.”

But you should really read the article. It pissed me the fuck off. Because that sounds…massively illegal.

Finally a measured and logical response. Living in NYC and browsing lemm.ee, I’ve only been hearing the most atrocious and absurd takes coming from the largely emotional jewish population attending protests in the city (where I’ve heard things such as, “if israel stops fighting, there will be no more israel. But if Palestine stops fighting, there will be peace.” Which is…fucking delusional) and the e-communists that make up lemm.ee (where it’s been all immature contrarianism and disgusting, true-to-form rape apologism like, “all of those israelis were going to be or have been conscripted [so the rape and torture is a-ok]!”)

Why can’t people be human first and allegiant to their political identity second? Hamas did something horrible—their anger and frustration are understandable, but their methods do not represent the people of Palestine nor are they justifiable. But Israel has been committing genocide. I understand that Jewish people he world over have been and are still the victims of deep-rooted antisemitism, and those roots spread far and wide and are sometimes hard to detect. But that does not serve as a justification for Israel’s actions, just like Hamas’ understandable anger does not make what they do and have done okay.

This is obviously a complicated issue…but that should mean everyone keeps their thoroughly binary opinions fuckin quiet because even the nuance of admitting there is justification for resistance (while pointing out that there is a largely secular Palestinian population, and that hamas is an Islamic group that was funded by israel in the 80s) while not approving of the methods on display here, while knowing israel is an occupying force that is committing genocide while using antisemitism as a shield against criticism (while also pointing out that antisemitism is in itself a nuanced issue that most people don’t understand)….and that’s barely scratching the surface while ignoring large parts of the issue…so, my point is…Jesus. I dunno. It’s fuckin complicated and people have been awful in jumping online to put their two cents in.

Having a ton of experience in the service industry, I can say this is not all that uncommon. You gotta get all of the employees together And sit your boss down. Tell them she’s causing problems, and hurting the customer experience. Lie to the boss if you have to, that customers have complained a few times about when you’re left alone, things are taking too long. Definitely tell them about eating off plates before they go out. That’s fucking insane. And disgusting.

But the more support you can get from other staff on this, the more powerful your complaints will be.

Doesn’t the great firewall mostly censor access within the country? It searches for keywords of topics they don’t want their people reading. As for information leaving/entering the country, it’s still accessible, it just prioritizes domestic information. But yeah, sounds like a great system that would totally pwn me and my beliefs as an anti-statist and someone who sees communism as flawed—not to mention whatever china is operating under now, which sure as shit isn’t communism lol

What a weird response.

No one was murdered. What “sins” were committed here? “Love your neighbor,” which gets violated everywhere every day. We live in a stupid, decadent, vapid capitalist culture. A worker, making way less than he should so a company can call him an independent contractor, carries a gun so he doesn’t lose his little bit of money, and a twat making peoples lives miserable for money…capitalism is the common culprit. This isn’t “society” rotting. This is your economic system inflicting it’s dominating principles, coldly, on everyone.

Did you read the article? It’s talking about taking kids voices from TikTok and shit. Social media. People have been posting videos of themselves talking for years. That’s enough data to train an ai to leave a message saying, “mom, I lost my phone and I’m in trouble. I need some money.” Or something of that sort. It’s been happening for a long time. This is only making it more confincing

Not to mention, those extra years were undoubtedly due to the cutthroat environment of landing in prison and having to learn to survive. It’s a goddamn trope in movies/tv. In fucking sitcoms. Prison forces people to become criminals or else be brutalized.

So she was drugged, forced into confessing flimsily, sent to prison as a mentally unwell person, and had to survive. Those violence charges against her should’ve been thrown out immediately after they realized she was never supposed to be there in the first place.

This fuckin system in this fucking country…

Henney said the trapper told him initially that Wally had been released into the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge about 60 miles southeast of Brunswick, near the Florida line. Later, Henney said, the trapper told him he released Wally into a swamp on private property. Now, Henney said, “He won’t tell us where he released Wally.”

This seems like the real fuckin conspiracy. So a guy kept an alligator, who cares? Why attack him? This trapper and the cops saying, “he did his job and released Wally at an undisclosed location” are what sound fishy af to me. I wouldn’t hesitate to bet that there is a whole industry of gator leather that the cops look the other way on. Sounds way more plausible than anything any idiot “sleuths” have conjured up about the owner.

It’s never a good idea to bring your phone with you. It can be used, even while powered off, to track and surveil you. The BLM protests were just the tip of the iceberg. The apps you have on your phone track you. The government is buying that tracking data. Your phone is a massive privacy weak point. It’s basically a bug you carry on you willingly. It’s not safe. Period.

Leave your phone at home. It’s not worth it. It may not bite you in the ass the day of, but could very easily come back to haunt you after they investigate, in case anything goes “wrong” in their eyes. It’s just not worth it.
