It's very privacy focused but if sites break you can turn of fingerprinting protection and thing like that in the settings with one click.

Great browser

Thanks Satan

Yes and they implement EVERYTHING in house. In case you haven't heard they also started implementing a browser engine from scratch https://ladybird.dev/ just for fun. It kinda took off and they even got some nice donations, just to keep it going and see where it leads.

The "founders" youtube channel is quit interesting. Especially the monthly update videos if you want to keep up to date with the latest developments. https://inv.tux.pizza/channel/UC3ts8coMP645hZw9JSD3pqQ

In addition, we’re going to develop the tools that give people choices other than the big three.

This sentence at the very end makes me very curious. Is this a hint for a Thunderbird mail service or something similar?

On the one hand I would love to have a mail service offered by the Thunderbird team that would also fund Thunderbird development. On the other hand it's probably not a good idea to split the development resources too thin.

In my personal opinion, such unrealistic ethical requirements end up being a reactionary choice as they will ultimately impede new - better - players to emerge and will leave the existing - worse - dominating.

That's an excellent point. Never thought about it that way.

go to about:config

search for browser.translations

You can either disable it completely or just disable the popup.

Laughs in his never changing xfce πŸ˜„ I enjoy reading about the other DEs changes as well tho!

They get most of their money from google for the "default search engine deal" make of that what you want. For me personally it doesn't sound fully independent.

I wish lemmy would block amp links flat out.

That's exactly what we need. Religious nutjobs meddling in the potentially dark AI future.

FYI: Aug 20, 2020

A list of features would be nice.

Is the calendar widget part of the launcher for example?

I was in a similar situation not too long ago and couldn't find anything to fix it either at first. One thing that was high on my list was changing my PSU since a defect or weak one often seems to be a problem in such cases. Besides a general hardware failure of course. If it's the hardware that could be anything really. Motherboard, RAM, GPU, PSU. PSU is the easiest to switch tho, so if you go that route I would try that first.

Anyways, I never had to do this cause in my case, believe it or not, a BIO update fixed my problem. I am still not 100% sure what happened but I think the update fixed the GPU voltage distribution or something similar.

Hope that help at least a little bit.

Also: https://libredirect.github.io

Browser extension with support for a lot of different frontends.

Looks nice and useful thanks

I get this error using it for the first time.

[Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/home/xxx/.config/gtk-4.0/gtk.css'

Considering that file doesn't exist the app might create it if necessary?

Cheers

FYI: /etc/grub.d/10_linux should not be edited directly for permanent changes since those changes get replaced when grub is updated.

Use /etc/default/grub for permanent changes.

Honestly, I have no idea what you are referring to either. Would you mind sending me a message if you don't want to go into detail in public?

The browser was at first only available in serentyOS itself but lately is available as a stand alone program running on other OSs as well. It's still pretty early days, I am exited to see where all this leads tho!

Not sure why you get immediately so confrontational. Of course I know those things exist and can be a problem but it wasn't at all clear to me that you were talking about those things. That's why I asked for clarification.

I get it, some people try to trigger other by asking obvious questions but don't assume the worst in all of us.

Indeed, just wanted to make sure people are aware. :)

Cheers

I have some left, message me if you still need one.

I am in session 7 of my rewatch, so this was the first connection I made a well. πŸ™‚

Looks great, I used the wallpaper myself for a while. What theme/icons do you use?

Does anybody know for how many years this device gets system / security updates?

It's a work in progress. Most sites won't work but some do. Check out this latest development update video: https://inv.tux.pizza/watch?v=giq5iXJntgQ&t=911 That link leads directly to the "demo segment" where he opens some sites.

I have the same as a secondary device. It's getting slow tho. :)

Have a look at https://www.picoctf.org/

They have a lot of challenges and resources to get you started.

Also if it is an 60fps video I start hearing the fans spinning like mad

ok this is definitely not normal. Check the temperature of your GPU. Is the GPU physically clean? Is the air flow ok? Do you have the chance to test with a different GPU? An overheating GPU can definitely lead to the described symptoms.

Same, works like a charm!

One of the main features of silverblue is auto updates in the background. You don't need a cronjob or a graphical tool to achieve this, it's build into the distribution.

Have a look here: https://miabbott.github.io/2018/06/13/rpm-ostree-automatic-updates.html

You just have to change one entry in /etc/rpm-ostreed.conf and reload the systemd service.

Your xargs comment is still wrong tho. It deletes ALL but the most recent two files.

And here is the official theme music of the app: https://youtu.be/Vqbk9cDX0l0

Thanks for checking.

I just checked as well and on my system (arch, xfce) the file exists but it's a symlink, created by a theme I tried but doesn't exist on my system anymore ("qogir-gtk-theme-git"). After removing the symlinks it works.

I clicked apply in the app and a gtk.css and settings.ini files was created. The gtk.css file it's empty. Is that the intended behavior?

That's a good reason indeed. I have three monitors myself but all the same refresh rate so it's all good on that end.

no problem, you always learn something. :)

Same here and I don't even use the search that much. Love it
