On one hand, FUCKYEAH for data privacy rights. Can’t wait to pull my shit out of databases I don’t want to be in.

On the other hand, as a software developer that’s gonna have to implement the data removal functions on my company’s databases… goddammit. I’m already up to my eyeballs and it’s gonna be a bitch and a half.

But all in all, fuck yeah.

I feel the exact same way and work in the same field…it sucks for my work life personally but is a giant step in the right direction and I take the burden willingly. But it is gonna be a pain…most all data isn’t used maliciously but it is everywhere and all directions. Cleaning it up has been tough enough with the EU regulations but this law only will reinforce that data custody is something that has to be taken very seriously…which in a roundabout way will make life easier, eventually.

It's not even possible to really remove your data. Databases are backed up and archived regularly - when companies get requests to delete a particular user's data, they're not going back and re-mounting old backups to delete the data from all backups, so the data will still exist somewhere.

Man I get it’ll be a hassle but also the amount I am going to throw ‘we’re agile’ in companies faces when they have ranted about their two week turn around for years and this is a 2026 requirement is going to keep me warm through this winter.
