Tesla should move on from Musk

Lol it doesn’t matter. He spawned a legitimate rival that’s slowly growing into a relevant replacement. It is not there yet, and has a long way to go.

But main thing is that board is getting set for an eventual mass migration once they do their next stupid thing, same thing that launched Reddit in the first place.

And they will do the next stupid thing, because they have to. They’re being pressed to be turn a profit for the first time ever. They’re going to continue to be pressed on this, and it will turn off more and more users.

Lemmy has a lot to figure out, but give it time.

Seems small but something like this could kill this plane as a passenger jet if enough people are avoiding em.

They’re somehow WORSE than duckduckgo nowadays like how? You were the search leader, people used DDG for privacy reasons but they passed you??? Did you forget why you’re a company? It’s because you were the best fucking search engine ever and you decided to sell that title for ads or some shit. Incredible how Google fell off the fucking side of a mountain they themselves built!

Like Mueller half-assed it and the end result was nearly a fucking coup. Can’t let that happen again.

Facebook before the algorithm was awesome. It was just the most recent stuff your friends did in that literal order. There was nothing wrong with it lol. Or at least I didn’t think so.

Every single thing about Google sucks nowadays. Great job Sundar, you successfully turned one of the former most exciting companies on the planet into one of the absolute lamest.

It’s kind of shocking how bad it has gotten. I never thought SEO would win in the end, but they did and now Google is fairly useless. Like if AI doesn’t work out long-term what are they left with? A bunch of inferior products people don’t trust anymore or have better/comparable alternatives. GCP sucks compared to AWS and Azure, Android has more freedom than iOS but feels developmentally behind on most fronts in terms of end user experience. Google Search is now about even with Bing and otherwise privacy focused Search Engines have improved to the point of being viable for most cases. Gmail has let in more spam than ever and there’s a lot of alternatives now as well with bo meaningful improvements coming to it. Maps is still probably the market leader there, but more competition in this space too. Google harvests your data to an extreme amount and consumers are privacy aware than previous generations which adds to the distrust of a target demographic. Lastly Youtube is making the user experience worse with every update. While there is no real alternative right now given the overhead required, there is at least a desire for a good alternative should one ever come about.

Feels like Google is losing on every front and bet the farm that AI will save them. We’ll see I guess.

Man child

It is inevitable to a degree. Obviously this is not the final form and I’m sure the goal is to make a more fashionable solution that fits into their phone/watch/airpods kind of edc strategy. But no doubt we’ll have a future where info is right there if we want it. This thing is the foray into developing that eventual product for Apple. To me it looks real dumb, but a sleeker version in the future that looks like glasses…well shit it might be nice to watch a show while washing dishes idk.

Yep, I am not a Jobs fan boy at all but he definitely had a clear goal and required people to get the product right before shipping it, to the extent to which that was possible for the tech at the time.

Y'all getting kinda thicc too, no offense.

Is the topic of the thread called “Should we tax billionaires” or was it “I dare you to name one good thing a billionaire has done”?

All google products track you. Don’t use Google products.

Fucked the whole company and bails

Love people weighing in on US politics who are getting the pulse of the nation from social media haha, just hilarious.

I work in Cybersecurity for an F100 and we've been war gaming for shit like this for a while. There are just so many unethical uses for the current gen of AI tools like this one, and it keeps me up at night thinking about the future iterations of them to be honest.

I hear you but is really that big of a deal? Out of all the many challenges in life, slow pedestrians affects maybe like 15-25 seconds of my day at most lol. Who cares if they trot or stroll?

Reddit exists despite itself lol.

And that’s a US mission for clarity of those who don’t follow this topic closely. China also has planned a manned mission to the moon by the end of the decade and all of these countries (India, Russia, US and China) are all targeting the Moon’s south pole which is much more treacherous in terms of geographic features than previous Moon missions. The south pole has frozen water deposits and the eventual goal is to use this area as a refueling station for exploration further out into the solar system. Pretty exciting times!

Does Sunshine/Moonlight still blow Steam Remote Play out of the water or does this bring them up to par?

As an American it’s equally annoying how people cannot fucking see what a great job Biden has done overall. Land of the Free, Home of the Dumb

Boy oh boy everyone hates inventory limits and tedious management but devs still feel the need to make sure we have a reason to return towns and what not as the excuse.

Like fuck you, give me a better reason than inconveniencing the fuck out of me while I was out in your world having fun.

Shows was way too deep for a cartoon horse show lol, it’s seriously fantastic

Keep on not spending money in cars gang, let’s get them prices down!

Fucking fantastic, People’s browser gets better and better!

To me, nothing has quite damaged China’s reputation more in recent years than how they handled Covid. Yes, I’m aware of the human rights abuses, Hong Kong and all of that. There’s not an excuse to not be fully transparent and absolutely accommodating and helpful to your fellow nations in the face of a global pandemic. This major L for China’s standing in the global community.

It’s because Elon finds Putin more relatable than the people Putin is attacking.

It sucks, because I’ve listened to a ton of interviews with him discussing VR/AR and I actually think he is super interested in the tech and is doing pretty incredible stuff in the space. But the blatant disregard for people’s personal privacy and Facebook/Social Media’s destructive history prevents me from trusting Meta in this area and many others. What’s sad is that Zuck actually is pretty damn smart, and I think he’s one of the few billionaires that really understands tech. They’ve been open sourcing things and just getting better overall in a lot of ways but at the end of the day the trust isn’t there.

I love the tech but have much the same feelings. AI maybe improve the world eventually, but I predict a painful future in the intervening time. I hope investors turn sooner than later to slow this train but we’ll see. Lot of big players betting the farm on AI, to the point where they’ll do everything to see it through.

tbh refactoring (if it can be done safely) could be a huge help to orgs and fantastic AI use case. Rarely do businesses want to spend the resources to improve a codebase. Hope it goes well for IBM.

I think instability of the world at the current moment is being acknowledged by military brass throughout NATO as having the potential volatility to see current regional conflicts expand considerably. Middle East, Taiwan, NK (unlikely but a bit of a crapshoot always), Ukraine, etc. Throw in the wild card that is Trump and his rhetoric surrounding NATO and Europe combined with his embrace of Putin and Russia/dictorial aims in the US and you’ve got several things that would have you worried presently. His job is to make sure the UK is ready to address any situations that arise I think statement is more publicly acknowledging that troubled waters COULD be on the horizon.

Didn’t China say they were going to leave Homg Kong alone too? Things change.

Ugh I’d feel so fucking gross is I somehow contributed to the proliferation of MORE advertising in our world. Like talk about an absolute waste of your talent and contribution to the world.

Laying there on your deathbed someday and looking back on what you did in the time you were given…and it was making more ads, like how disgusted I feel about it all.

You can support the side of peace for all people regardless of Palestine or Israel. Civilians should be left alone and both sides have committed atrocities against the other. Fucking awful situation.

Endgame was a pretty lively experience when it came out. Felt like the whole theater was enjoying the fuck out of that movie lol. When Captain America picks up Thor’s Hammer people went nuts haha. Hype was enormous and they delivered imo (a little bit fan service for sure but overall great film to see in theaters).

“Tough on crime!”

Lol I still check it on PC sometimes but Lemmy has completely replaced it on mobile for me.

One thing about tech workers is historically they will crunch themselves hard to minimize downtime and meet deadlines because they care about their code and infrastructure. That totally breaks down when they see a bunch of their friends get shitcanned or sees their company making greedy decisions at the expense of their employees.

They should call Drift Souls, Elden Nurburgring or Sekivroom
