Can DXM (dextromethorphan) be used to prevent or reduce tolerance to other ligands?

cheese_greater@lemmy.world to Asklemmy@lemmy.ml – 24 points –

There's drugnerd whispers on the internet that DXM (microdosed) can block or attenuate the development of tolerance to various ligands, particularly amphetamine.

Any DrugNerdz here who can explain the valudity of this conjecture or expand on it in any helpful way

I know DXM use and abuse is effective in preventing a strong career and stable life. That cough suppressant was actually an Air Force career suppressant for a dude I used to know.

I wouldn't say its any absolute, it can play a role in mentally resetting you at the hyperdosage level. Almost like a "hard reset" like when you turn off your device or whatever

Personally, I agree that it can be very dangerous as well both acutely and over chronic usage. We don't know much about potential kidney issues like with ketamine or if there's any other nasty health risks like Olney's lesions etc.

Bro... It looks like you are already at the "this drug I take has magic properties" part with talking about time dilation and mental hard resets. So, I hope getting up is easy when you fall down.

Dude, like what is the bottom line with your comments here? Trust me, I'm better than ever and I have zero intention of touching DXM for a very long time (legit had an issue with urinary retention one time that was beyond uncomfortable but I also just hate throwing up ever if I don't have to).

Thisnis purely out of curiosity about whether it can help attenuate general tolerance development for various substances (itself being taken at a microdosage level—not plateau territory, as I suspect you're implying). It is almost purely academic besides the plausibillity and ease of trying it out for anecdotal purposes.

Why do you think DXM might have this property?

I’ve not heard of this being a property of any substance or procedure.
