Is having an Android really a deal-breaker for some people?

I asked if people chose iPhone for the blue bubbles elsewhere a couple days ago, and while there was some good discourse on that post, the blue bubbles definitely also came up as a reason.

In my experience, when people find out my texts are green, they oftentimes would rather switch to a different platform altogether like Instagram or just not text at all.

Is this actually a deal-breaker in friendships out there?

It means the rounded boxes used as backgrounds for messages on iOS devices. SMS messages have a green background, iMessages have a blue one.

And people care about that? That's the weirdest elitism I've ever heard

I'm not really sure what it is that people care about. iMessages vs SMS? Apple elitism? The perception that iPhones are more luxurious and more expensive (which isn't accurate these days, maybe it was 10 years ago). The notion that iOS is more elegant or something and shows better taste? I have no idea.
