So where are we hosting images? Is there a distributed/fedi equivalent of imgur?

I tried uploading a pic w/ the "upload image" but it didn't really work, post showed as text-only, so I resorted back to imgur. But is there an alternative we should be using?

It's decentralized. For instance, I posted a meme on memes@lemmy.ml but since my account was created on lemmy.fmhy.ml, the image was hosted there.

I have been primarily using Post Images and using the “direct link” to post to Lemmy. So far this allows for direct download for others, versus needing to go to another website to download the image.

I figure it lowers the hosting load for the Lemmy servers. Plus, if for what ever the Lemmy instance goes down, you could repost your images to another instance.

I haven’t checked out Pixelfed

Edit: Oh, I didn’t realize Pixelfed is on the Fediverse. That looks promising.
