A San Antonio International Airport ground crew member was killed Friday night after being ingested into an engine, officials said.

In a statement sent to USA TODAY, the National Transportation Safety Board said Delta Flight 1111 arrived in San Antonio from Los Angeles and was "taxiing to the gate on one engine” when the worker was "ingested into that engine,” the NTSB said.

“The NTSB is continuing to gather information about the event,” the NTSB said in the statement Sunday.

The San Antonio International Airport confirmed the incident occurred on the ground of the airport, the Texas airport said in a statement sent to USA TODAY.
