I have fleas. https://www.snand.org

I am not a conspiracy theorist. Reality is trying it’s damnedest to make me one.

I say this as a rare person who prefers to work in office.

Good.

Seriously, would much rather work with productive happy people. the remote work phenomenon has proven that between reduced traffic, the commercial real estate bubble, the fact that we’re literally all connected to each other 24/7 through the series of tubes means it’s about time we restructure the workforce.

For me anyway, the modern web feels like the realization of those early internet pioneering ideas. I run my own personal site, with a nice open source google photos replacement, hosting my own VDI, streaming services, you name it. It’s all running on a pile of discarded speak and spell’s in my basement (a joke but only barely, this junk will run on anything that can host a container). It’s all possible thanks to the open source shoulders of giants I’m standing on and in spite of my lack of coding experience (I’m dev/ops). The fact that I run more infrastructure than my first few jobs combined, as one hobbyist, kinda blows my formerly teenage brain.

It’s still out there, just so long as you are willing to DIY. I am holding great hope for the fediverse, although I’ve been getting used to disappointment lately.

I have an m2 iPad pro. The last thing it needs is more processing power, what it needs is better software to make use of the power that it has. I’d love to run full OS X on it considering I paid more than some MacBooks.

“Minimizes diminished App Store revenue”

I am an Apple user and in the end I’m more comfortable with them having access to my data than google.. but man, they don’t even bother to pretend it’s a pro-consumer issue thing anymore.

Been noticing that a lot lately, corporate weasel language is dying as these companies grow more and more emboldened.

I do, and I miss it. What’s more I’ve never once seen a Mr beast video.

Avoid the cruft, roll your own content and find smaller, individual communities like these tubes used to be a decade (or more) ago.

"The American experiment endures,"

I would say it just failed. I'm sorry but a system that elects a rapist, a 34 times convicted felon, one who defrauds students, cages children, takes away human rights, praises nazi's and dictators, and this was just the first term. I'm sorry but by any metric I care to meaure it by this is a failed experiment.

the patron saint of the right spent most of his presidency with a head full of mush, they don’t care. It’s the same reason the age stuff resonates with Biden only, the right wants useful idiots who will sign off on their fever dreams. A non-functional brain is a virtue to them.

And yet, somehow his supporters will see this as a sign of strength.

I was not a harris booster previously but the biggest complaint I have about her, "Copmala" is actually a significant strength in this election. Then I started reading into her voting record. Combine that with her being a woman in the post roe v wade world, and a woman of color against the most xenophobic party that any of us have experienced and I think she's EXACTLY what we need.

Remember when the GOP collectively lost its mind when they were called deplorable.

It is absolutely monstrous that in the country where stories like this happen daily, that the politician who is most responsible for this situation is the likely next president. It makes me physically sick.

I honestly thought it was common knowledge that these things were essentially free labor for training AI.

Why sober, thoughtful conversation like this is not happening is beyond insane to me. Like I just do not know how to deal with a reality that treats this as normal.

Well said, I agree with every word.

Funny how there’s always a valid reason and it just so happens to always favor the orange turnip.

It is this kind of news that has allowed me to catch my breath. I no longer see a turnip dictatorship as an inevitability; a real and immediate danger, but one that feels less and less likely.

Why is anyone even pretending to buy his bullshit. We all have seen the rulings, we’ve all heard his shouting, we’ve all witnessed his willingness to shred, delay, and deal for his party. so let’s drop this did he or didn’t he bullshit and figure out what the fuck to do about it.

Edit- sorry for the rant, not targeted at anyone.

Edit2- except alito

I've always thought that the ad supported internet is something people will eventually get sick of and the financial foundation would evolve over time to find models that don't rely on infinite spam. Instead efforts are focussed on forcing us to view them. At this point I'm expecting the next version of Chrome to require the Ludovico technique while browsing.

I wish I could figure out if I have it. I asked my doctor how to get diagnosed, he said I’d need to talk to a psychiatrist. I got a referral and tried to setup and appointment but they said I couldn’t be tested since I have no history of it. They instead want to put me on antidepressants but I’ve gone through enough of them to know that ain’t what my issue is.

Mental health care in this country is a fucking joke.

I can’t tell you how many articles I’ve read lately that can just be summed up as “late-stage capitalism”. This is the death throes of the nation.

I’m someone who vastly prefers to work in an office. It’s kind of a pain in the ass dealing with remote workers, meetings having gone to teams instead of in person, it just feels impersonal and as a former manager it is harder to maintain and keep your staff engaged.

But this is the modern workforce, and we have plenty of evidence that productivity is still there with a hybrid or remote office. When I was a manager I had to change my strategies, I had to adapt and learn, just like everything else I do in my professional life. Now that I am part of leadership but without direct reports, it’s just more adapting and learning that I am doing to stay relevant.

poor management is why all these companies are trying to force people back, it’s just people who cannot adapt.

I mean, I get why people don’t like it but at the same time, no one forces you to buy one. I like Macs, I enjoy using OS X and would use it as my primary OS. I don’t because I don’t find the value proposition of their hardware worth it.

Their loss, they have a market, they just aren’t interested in it.

It is obvious to anyone with a functional brain.

Since it was pretty much marketed as a Non-Fallout, Fallout game, I gave it a shot. I tempered my expectations though because let's be honest, most of the time copycats fall flat. So, I was actually pretty impressed with the game and ultimately found myself wanting more. It certainly felt like a freshman attempt but a really damn good freshman who's hopefully going places. The humor was good, if not a bit forced at times, the relationship system was fun although it being kinda 3rd party made the stakes a little lower, I enjoyed the gameplay and the story for the most part and IMHO it certainly looked good enough.

All in all, I'm a little excited for this now.

Always, always, always is.

the fact that he's angry and feeling betrayed is the problem. we don't want a president who thinks he deserves it for himself, a president represents the people of a nation, not their own ego.

that's why I'm so angry with biden. I'm sure he thinks he's the best for the job, but read the room, have some self-reflection. sure it might be unfair to YOU personally that this is happening, but what YOU are doing to the country in response is arguably worse. I mean, I wasn't going to vote for him due to his genocide cheerleading but I'm digging my heels in even further since he's being such an obstinent fuck. if things are as dire as he's telling us, why is he and the party more concerned with an old man's feelings than the fate of this country?

At least I’ll finally get to win the argument with my dad about if climate change is real or not.

they also overestimate their importance to the same crowd. I mean, I use youtube a lot but as soon as I'm unable to without my adblocker in place, I'm done with the site. Already cut out several other sites that have done similar things; YouTube is big, but it's not the only time waster in town.

It’s the enshittification of the entire country.

Doesn’t really matter though. No one thinks the court will allow immunity. What turnip has been after is delay, and the court just signaled that they have his back. Adding almost 3 more months of delay (the 2+ weeks while waiting for them to accept the case and the almost 2 months before even hearing arguments, and that’s ignoring the time it will take to render a decision). So, the “best” possible outcome is still a benefit to him, and it only gets better for him from there.

The fix is in.

as I have climbed higher in the corporate world, this is becoming clearer and clearer. people respond far better to a confident idiot than they do a pensive expert.

Ha!

I would rather go barefoot in shoes than wear socks twice in a row. Heck, I often change them when I get home from work.

I've long said, the first thing I'd do after winning the lottery is never wear the same pair of socks twice because my favorite of life's little unnoticed pleasures is the feeling of a new pair of socks.
