Not quite related to the conversation, but I think it would be funny if a CEO tried to run a business into the ground but ended up being the most successful and beloved CEO in the company's history.

"I know, if I enact a 4 day workweek, nobody will have time to get anything done"

"Okay so that didn't work... Maybe if I increase staffing, give everyone a raise, the overhead will eat into the company profits and nobody will want to invest!"

"Um... I'll have the dev team drag their heels on product release! Nobody will want to buy our product if we release a month late. Heck, maybe if we wait until the devs say it's ready we won't release anything at all! This plan is sure to work!"

The salutation for System Administrator day is "Happy System Administrator Day! Hey, since I've got you here do you think you can "

The customary reply is "Thanks! I'll add it to my list"

Panera's doing their best! It's hard to compete when the other guy has a head start that spans basically all of recorded history

The absolute worst thing about Halloween is having to dodge all the cum cannons

Data collected by Threads can include users' sexual orientation, race and ethnicity, biometric data, trade union membership, pregnancy status, politics, and religious beliefs. Threads can also collect data on users' employment, as well as health and fitness. Beyond that, the app also can collect data monitoring users' location and other web activity.

Geez meta, do you want the results of my colonoscopy too? (spoiler: they do)

"Health and financial data, precise location, search history, browsing history, and more are not needed for a user to be on the app and are instead used to create a more hyper-personalized and targeted experience on the app or shared with and sold to advertisers," Schroeder told Ars.

Fuck targeted experiences, all my homies hate targeted experiences

If dragons aren't real, how come you see them in popular media so much? where do the film makers get them? Oh, they used a computer to make them?

I have a USB-C cable that will only work in a specific orientation. So I'll plug in a device, laptop won't recognize it, (sigh) unplug and flip the cable, and then everything works.

I lived through that fucking decade and I think it has a lot to do with how fucked up I am today. The way my school district dealt with a kid that couldn't sit still was to lock them in a cinder block room with nothing but a desk and a pencil. They would keep you in there until you finished whatever assignment the teacher gave you.

Then I was prescribed ritalin. I was ridiculously allergic to it and it gave me seizures. When I wasn't having seizures I was almost catatonic which the school liked, because it meant I stayed in my chair. The school tried their best to keep me on it even though my parents were VERY unsure about the whole seizures thing and negative effects on my personality. One day I asked my mom "If I do something bad when I'm on my medicine, do I go to hell?" (I have a very religious family) and that was the push they needed to take me off it.

I haven't sought treatment or therapy since, because of that whole debacle. Every once in awhile I think about it, but it sends me in an anxiety/ptsd spiral and I chicken out.

Hell, when I graduated, they would give you your permanent record along with your diploma on the stage. Everyone else's was super thin, but mine was three folders about three inches thick each. I didn't even look at it, just burned it out of shame. I'm sure it was full of "prime mover has a lot of potential" bullshit. I wish so bad that I could be normal, but I don't think I even got a ticket for that boat before it sailed.

Sorry for the rant. Still pissed off at my school system, but not sure who to share that rage with. Fuck em all

no no no no, it's not a mandate, it's just that we encourage self expression here in the PC market. You do want to express yourself, right?

Growing up in the NorthWoods, naturally I've seen deer fight. They rear up on their hind legs and kick with their fronts as they come back down. There's about a 50% chance of a mama doe either doing that, or just running. I guarantee if mama decides to fight you're not gonna have a good time

I just switched my aging gaming rig to Linux over the Xmas break. One more grain of sand to add to the pile!

People need to reject the idea that "bigger number = better service". The big players like that line of thinking because it cements their role of dominance and discourages competition. The fediverse will never be as big as Meta and it's all the better for it. IDK about others but I prefer a small, active userbase with interests similar to my own over an ocean of crap

Probably random, could be riffing on those tough guy truck memes you see on facebook

I mean, if you have nothing to hide, then surely you don't need window blinds or a bedroom door? It should also mean that it's okay for guests to rifle through your closet and dresser drawers, right?

If there's a community missing that you really want to see, why don't you try to start it yourself? That's what I did on kbin. I'm a big train nerd and missed /r/trains and /r/trainporn, so I started a train magazine to fill that niche. I really have no idea what I'm doing and haven't run a community before, but it's been going pretty good! We're at 80 subscribers, and have started "picking up steam" so to speak.

You should give it a shot!

Like the one daddy puts in his drink! …and then he gets mad

on kbin at least you can go to kbin.social/d/<domain you want to block> and click the little 🚫next to the subscribe button.

I also don't need it to have a bazillion-septillion-megamillion users to consider it successful. In my mind, engagement with 10 people is worth much more than a thousand upvotes from someone mindlessly clicking my post.

IDK why your comment reminded me, but back when I was in middle school (late 90s) we had an anti drug guest speaker. One of those ones where they were former addicts trying to scare you out of trying drugs. During the Q&A, someone asked him a question and that got him onto how plastic water bottles were super bad for you and you should never drink out of plastic because you’re ingesting tiny plastic particles. I remember we were laughing at him while administration was trying to shoo him off the stage.

Now we just kinda shrug when told we’re ingesting a credit card worth of plastic every week, lol.

What the hell why's this one in a jar?

Silly me, not thinking of the poor little corporations again

When I first noticed the memes, I looked at the account making them and it was less than a day old. I just figured they had an axe to grind or it was an election season bot and blocked the account, lol.

HE'LL YEAH BROTHER NOTHING LIKE CRANKING A COLD ONE AFTER CRACKING YOURE HOG AROOOOOOO

Time to end the failed experiment that is capitalism

Ages ago when I was in college, I had a little Brother laser printer. It was more than enough, as I was only printing B&W documents. It was wireless and you could easily get a few thousand pages per toner cartridge. Hell it even did duplex via a special duplex tray on the front. I loved that little thing, and eventually gave it away when I graduated as I basically stopped using it. If I ever find myself in a situation where I need to buy a printer, Brother is the only brand on my list.

Also, the lights would flicker whenever I fired it up, lol! that baby drew a lot of power.
