Step away from hardware constraints for a moment, and consider the OS:

If the OS says a file is deleted, under no circumstances should the OS be able to recover it. Sure, certain tools may exist to pull it back; but it should be unavailable to the OS after that. And yet, apparently a software update was enough to recover these files. Thus, the concerns about data safety in an environment where the OS cannot be trusted to remove data when it says it has been removed.

It also calls being gay “sexual conduct,” which critics say could set up the state for more censorship of LGBT+ citizens.

As in, they can use anti-porn measures to block information from kids about homosexuality in general.

Were you never an asshole as a kid? It's part of growing up. We work to make them better, but arresting them does nothing worthwhile.

It's entirely relevant to your argument. Both are commonly expected to be role models. This expectation is enforced in only one case.

Evangelical advertising, talking about Jesus's experiences in a way that relates to what "everyday people" deal with.

I would rather say it’s “predictable”, rather than “understandable”. Perhaps even, “no better than we can expect”. Calling this “understandable” tends to normalize greed for greed’s sake.

Conservatives here have picked unborn children as a group they can ostentatiously "protect". It's a particularly useful group for them, as the unborn have no ability to declare, "If you want to help us, SUPPORT OUR MOTHERS!"

So, conservatives get to feel righteous, while their leaders manipulate them with this crusade to further their own ends.

One thing that surprised me in the article - I had no idea magma could be acidic!

I've never found this sort of argument compelling. Yes, it's possible there's things going on we don't know about; and sometimes tactical and strategic necessities may require hidden actions.

Those actions still need brought to light as soon as it's feasible to do so; and I struggle to imagine what sort of strategic necessity would require this sort of stance for more than a few months, let alone the years these stances have been in effect. Not to mention the difficulty of keeping something on this scale quiet for this long. At best, things are more or less as they appear - the alternative is there's things they don't want their electors to find out.

And my toddlers both just turned it back around!

Straight to victim blaming?

Oh yeah: https://instinctmagazine.com/white-nationalist-gavin-mcinnes-plugs-himself-to-own-the-libs/

There's probably better sources, that's just the first Google result.

I'd be happy with just the silver spoon, myself.

They're working on it...

They only like the 2nd when they agree with you! Remember the Black Panthers?

I agree, but as Carter showed, being a good president isn't enough to get reelected.

That was my first thought!

Mine has been docked for months at a time. I recently started shifting it to be near the kids when they're home; but not undocking it wouldn't strike me as strange at all.

And if you've been letting Steam store your save data, you should find that your save files for most games will still be available in Linux! Mileage will vary per game of course, but jumping between OSes has been pretty seamless for me!

They're reporting on the results of someone else's survey; so they can protest indignantly.

As I understand it, the rate of post-hormone regret for these kids is extremely low. Like, single or double digits low.

...yes?

I think they hate the "generic billionaire", but are they any actual billionaires they hate?

Yep, airships aren't overpressurized like a balloon - any leak will be extremely slow, as the heavier ambient air gradually displaces the helium inside the airship through whatever hole might be created. As I understand it, one of the big maintenance issues they have is even finding the holes from normal wear and tear. The usual failure scenarios involve storms with huge pressure changes.

Often you can still find out what it does, but the “why” gets lost and because of that people are afraid to change it.

I feel like this is what gets lost whenever documentation is talked about. Yes, you should probably be able to work out what something does by looking carefully at it - but why can be so easily lost!

I do think some of this is just fatigue. The usual way to deal with this is to either pick one or a few things to try to actively address, or just buckle down and wait for things to improve. Both lead naturally to a situation where it's hard to get a critical mass of people to respond on any one subject.

Slowing them down after this is a plus, sure; but I'm still hung up on this: what would this let him get away with?

Pretty sure this is why they keep training it on books, movies, etc. - it's already intended to make sense, so it doesn't need curated.

I'm remembering that color blindness is actually really good at bypassing certain kinds of camouflage too. Which sounds like the two would pair well together in hunting parties.

I can't see Trump being the sort to try to build something beyond himself. I don't think he could see the point of trying to cultivate a successor; and even if he did, I think he would see them as potential competition - he'd likely try to sabotage them, if anything.

This isn't hate for the investors, but for what they've pushed for. Discord was already profitable, this is just driving enshittification; per the article.

Exactly this. I want to normalize showing the password requirements when you don't immediately get the password - if you made me jump through hoops the first time, at least remind me what they were!

...it didn't occur to them to even start learning Russian before they went?!

But... there's animals!

I was actually noticing that the blurb, at least, does not specify a language...

If they want to play that game - the calendar date becomes part of the password. It's never the same, but you can always work it out!

They're not, but a lot of their positions are justified by other things that sit right next to what Hazdaz listed.

As another perspective - it took me a moment or two to work out what was happening in the second picture, but then the whole tableau made sense to me!

Leaving aside for the moment the free speech issues inherent here... if you want to control what someone does with a book after you sell it? You can't sell it. Lend it, rent it, whatever; but if it's sold, you've given up all right to determine what happens with it.

Don't want to invest in the infrastructure to do that? Then is it really that important to you?

And because when a gas car catches fire, it isn't even newsworthy
