Amazing how much hate SO receives here. As knowledge base it's working super good. And yes, a lot of questions have been answered already. And also yes, just like any other online community there's bad apples which you have to live with unfortunately.

Idolizing ChatGPT as a viable replacementis laughable, because it has no knowledge, no understanding, of what it says. It's just repeating what it "learned" and connected. Ask about something new and it will simply lie, which is arguably worse than an unfriendly answer in my opinion.

What's on the other side of middle age? Well, I'm not there yet, but it sure looks like the answer is "more work".

If you sell an illusion you have to deal with both the delusional and disillusioned.

It's disgusting.

And even if you go out of your way and dismiss morals, ethics, and international law, who in their right mind thinks that's a good investment? These properties, the whole region, is rife for conflicts and terrorism for... decades. Now more than ever.

He won't because that's exactly how it works. They need a successful delivery to be able to boost their own rating with a fake review.

Someone explained it in more detail I this topic, and there's also a link to the scam warning PSA.

Social media fatigue is slowly getting traction. I don't have an article or study at hand to back it up, but I read about it the other day. Especially in younger generations it's a trend already.

Also, but that's only my personal theorie, i think it's a trend only among the less-hateful people. Hateful people nonstop spewing their vile messages everywhere is making "normal" people leave, which then turns off even more "normal" people.

The enraged slowly turning (unmoderated) social media into one big echo chamber.

If it's not genocide Netanjahu doesn't have to fear the ICC. And the fastest way to get out of this, would be to go to trial and make his case.

Makes you wonder why he's so angry about it.

Yeah, and about that historical comparison... WhatsApp sold out for $21bn. Signals top earners collectively would have to work for 4200 years to get there.

Those guys deserve every cent of their paycheck, because probably any of them could easily earn multiple of that at another company... given their skills and knowledge in the field.

The biggest miracle is them not selling out.

Seating is not all owed.

Dark Gary doesn't seem to care. Light Gary however seems to be looking out for you.

What a terrible waste of human life.

Everybody deserves a happy and fulfilled life. Not slowly dying alone in a dirty hole for absolutely nothing - led there by lies and propaganda from people who should take care of them, not waste them.

It's just sad.

Never thought of this, you're not wrong.

On the other side her dying because she lost the will to life... is kind of a good explanation for an unlikely death in such an advanced civilization.

Obviously they could simply keep her alive despite any actual medical condition. So what else could she die of... except for a spiritual (I don't know a better description) reason.

Kind of a "so bad it's actually good" explanation.

Are the admins of lemmy.world somehow responsible for what their members do, even if it´s not on their own instance?

They are not responsible for what their users do, but for what is saved on their instance. And by any lemmy.world user interacting with content from a different instance, their lemmy.world will host a copy of that content. That's how lemmy works.

So if a lemmy.world user subscribes to a pirate sub, that whole subs content is now mirrored on lemmy.world.

Not just related to piracy that's a huge liability issue for admins.

What's the questions-to-answers ratio to make it acceptable to write "CEO here" in a topic, in your opinion?

How much and what would he need to post so damage control would have been done (and successfull) in your eyes?

Just asking in case I become a CEO and see someone having a solvable issue with my company's sercice.

Never cease to amaze me. Go Gen Z.

It would be possible to argue about all of them, as each has genuine use cases. Just not to the extend they were praised during the hype.

It does have that vibe, but it's unarguably true that a lot of software and websites are ridiculously bloated and slow.

Factorio, Minecraft, and... Counter Strike. I exclusively play with a full squad of friends and even if we have a bad game, at least I'm spending time with my friends. Keeping contact with your friends is super important and getting harder every year. So it's quality time.

Just wait until YT makes high res video options premium only. :)

Edit: I adblock, because fuck ads. But I also use yt less than ever before. I used to use it for entertainment, but nowadays I only use it when I specifically search for something.

Not going to happen. Nobody can afford promo trolling because then people are simply not going. Word to mouth propaganda doesn't bring the masses needed to pay the bills nowadays.

I really tried to pack this into a witty joke comment, but... that's Christy Mack. I don't think she's been into space yet tho.

My current project is building a (almost) 1gb Java rich client which takes around 2minites to load... while it's merely a gui with some small client to client capabilities. The technical debt is insane, and it's only getting worse because neither can they afford to rebuild it from scratch.

All kinds of IPO don't live up to their expectations. Facebook went down hard back in the day, for example.

Well, going by the article: 40.

Well I don't know why it's being done like this, but my informed guess would be:

Resilience. If the content wouldn't be copied, defederating/blocking an instance would mean that the content you created there (topics, comments, etc) would be lost to you. So if you wrote a nice comment, or saved a bunch of topics for later, and then your instance blocks the other instance... that would be gone for you. With the copy this doesn't happen.

Performance. Instead of having to deal with every user (from a different instance) individually, your instance only has to deal with other instances. With this updates between each other can be sent in larger chunks (and definitely with less network connections). Additional benefit: smaller instances don't get knocked down by user-heavy instances when they host a popular community.

Just guesses tho.

All social media is a liability time bomb unfortunately. That's why only the biggest players can afford it so far.

Only because they produce them the cheapest and in the largest quantities (which goes hand in hand).

Basically any country can produce solar panels and wind turbines. Both technology and resource wise.

Dictatorships (or any otherwise ideology driven entities) will have their very own problems training AI. Cannot feed the AI material which goes against your own ideology or it might not act in your best interest.

I finally got around installing OpenMW and started playing.

Feels good to relive my first "serious" RPG experience.

Society is the return for contributing.

Those people happily enjoyed the benefits of their society, and now try to get around the contribution part - by spending money they got trough their position in this very society.

Everyone is free to dislike this deal, but then you should find yourself a country which doesn't have a draft. It's as simple as that. But they didn't. They lived in their comfort zone and now try to get around the rules.

Last, this discussion should be about the officials who took the bribes.

Unfortunately that's not just gaming related news, but all news (and non-news).

It's by design. It leaves you wondering (and ideally click on the article).

What I actually would like to know if journalists, or whoever writes the articles, are picking these headlines consciously or if they're following guidelines. I can imagine both scenarios.

If you're thinking about rage quitting a job you don't even have yet, maybe take a different career from the beginning?

What the hell.

Well, at some point people will remember that it's possible to share things via USB stick or a drive.

green colored ketchup

You're welcome.

I didn't need a study for that. I mean we vaccinated ones are still pretty much alive, despite all the warnings of the dum-dums.

While quite interesting, the Bermuda triangle didn't concern me that much actually.

The movie Volcano (1997) however scared the shit out of young me, and I had problems sleeping for days. That was an issue I'd have liked to be solved.

Most likely the mic is simply powered by the voltage which also powers the headphones.

But there's also mics which don't need voltage to work at all (unlikely for headsets tho).

I like the idea (I don't want to call it a fan theory) that it resembles a typical "first love" relationship. Whose first relationship / young love was not cringe and full of awkward situations (for bystanders)?

You know this only works if you posted a question first, which you haven't, right?

But I do see a pattern. Everyone who is not in line with your simplistic world view is being accused of being in support of the genocide. Maybe you should learn how to differentiate.

Without a doubt: The Centrifuge Brain Project

The absurdity is really appealing.

Just like the OG Pirate Bay. They closed down, and someone else, unknown, took over.

That's not unproblematic ofc as the new owner can do whatever they want without the oversight of the non-profit.
