A lot don't have immobilizers (the thing that locks the steering wheel) and you don't need even need to hot wire, just rip out the guard under the steering wheel and put a USB plug in and turn (the plug fits the hole). It's pretty bad, and it became more known after TikTok started sharing how easy it was to do.
Even if they got an immobilizer, people might still try to break into them given their reputation for being easily stolen. At the very least, they'd have to worry about broken windows and messed up steering column stuff. It's probably a decent idea to sell and move on if they can afford to, although I'd personally go with another brand than Subaru.

They're not, its just that decent electric drive trains are kinda expensive. Old 4 cylinder engines with simple transmissions are actually pretty cheap to manufacture in comparison. There are some that work fine (Mini Cooper Se for example), but they usually have a fairly short range of under 100 miles.
The problem with that is that phevs are surprising expensive/heavy/complicated. It's why Chevy discontinued the volt over the bolt. And why chevy had to cut a lot of costs on the volt to get it down to a semi-acceptable price (the volt didn't even have power seats except on the Premier, and only on the drivers side).

I watched a ton of metalocalypse when I was younger, and was really annoyed when it got canceled on a cliff hanger. Cut to just a while ago, they finally made an end movie, which I watched as soon as it was available, yohohoho. I went ahead and bought the Blu-ray, just because I am so glad that they could get it financed and wanted to make sure that stuff like that would continue to be encouraged. I'm not gonna say it is the most intellectually stimulating plot, but it has played a part in shaping my darker humor.
Just started a new job a few weeks ago, feels super nice to be able to get groceries without constantly budgeting on everything. I was in a similarly financially quarantined situation to yourself for about a year (honestly that term might be the best way to put it), so it is a really nice change. This weekend I have been doing some repairs, some grocery shopping, and am hoping to trip tomorrow, provided I have an empty house (still live with my parents until I can earn enough to go lease somewhere).
Yeah. I actually went from usb c only phone to one with a headphone jack again, and I've decided I'm not even considering devices without a headphone jack. The dongles suck from either a usability perspective or a software one, and they just add another point of failure rather than just using a very simple aux jack. I get why a lot of manufacturers stopped supporting them (it costs some money, and the dongle make them some), but it's still very, very dumb.
But that's the thing, Trump, despite being a terrible person and president, was genuinely pretty popular with his voter base. They will more than likely come out to vote, despite his popularity declining a bit. However, Biden, while being a relatively sane, levelheaded president, is not really popular. His VP isn't particularly liked (bad pr or not, that is an issue) and a lot of his voter support seems to be, "well, at least he isn't Trump. " I find that incredibly scary, as it means in my mind that Biden being re-elected isn't such a slam dunk as a lot of the DNC seems to project.
They have great Linux support, generally are pretty repairable (they will have repair manuals and extra parts for you to order), and they are usually lease laptops, which means if you don't mind getting a used laptop you can get top of line laptops from a few years ago for a fraction of what they are worth. I've gotten thinkpads for years, generally only spending up around $200 on a laptop I use for a few years quite comfortably.

Then what about trucking? Lithium is not nearly as energy dense, weighs a lot, and does take a significant longer time to charge than a diesel to refuel. If you don't believe me, look up the eCascadia by Frightliner. They are probably the current best option if you wanted a heavy electric truck, but they only get to around 200 miles with a load (for reference, a standard turbo diesel one would go around 600-800 miles and only take 30 min to refuel).
Currently in trucking, I've found that everyone kinda laughs at the idea of electrification (except on medium duty, that wouldn't be too hard, just overly expensive). Current electric motors are fine, it's just that the energy storage is nowhere near what is needed for actual use.

Assume that meta starts managing the largest instances, and makes a bunch of changes that give actually useful features that other instances don't adopt (assume they require some meta oversight or other bs). What happens when meta starts using their clout to start suggesting more changes moving forwards, further alienating those instances and maybe getting less people to use them. Then you have issues maintaining some niche communities that are not under meta's instance, so info is naturally funneled back into a meta instance. And then meta does something to essentially lock down the use of their instance so you have to give them your personal data in order to view the data generated by the community in the meta instance.
I've actually seen this happen personally with people growing cordyceps mushrooms. There is a big active group on Facebook that discusses their tips and tricks, but you have to log in to be able to see their info now.
Despite a lot of people here being more or less fine with the current growth, there absolutely needs to be growth so that some of the niche communities will migrate here so that info can't be locked down.

I'd normally agree, but the sheer necessity of desalination in the next couple of decades might actually make a dent in this issue, as the downstream effects might actually affect some profit margins. The real issue is scaling, as most of the "revolutionary" desalination headlines are generally only slightly more efficient, but often have issues staying operational for long periods of time. This might have a bit of an edge on those (being completely passive, and already trying to work on the issue of salt buildup clogging the system), but I got the feeling from reading the article that they hadn't figured out whether or not they could scale it beyond (essentially) a basic water collection service for very small communities, at least not yet.

About once every other week on my phone, multiple times a week on my ipad (pro 10.5). It's more that I have a Bluetooth dac for some 30ohm headphones I regularly use, as my phone had more difficulty driving it at usable volume without going all the way up and getting the "you're hurting your ears!" warning.

Lucky. It's $3.20 a gallon (around $0.85 a liter), were I live in the southeast US, drive around 60 miles a day at 25mpg, so a generally around $7-8 day (I drive an older car, and don't live too close to work), or $40-50 a week. Plus around 5-7hrs worth of driving a week.
Or hiking! I have read a frankly ridiculous amount of audiobooks while doing other stuff like exercising. It also lowers my anxiety and can help a bit with depression (if that is anyone's issue).
