Blender by a huge mile. Yes, there’s tons of other software like Linux, of course, but Blender is such a powerful, well managed, economically viable and healthy (community) project that it should be shown as an example of how Open Source should be.

My biggest hurdle with other projects is the fanboys, because many times they’re quite toxic, insulting everybody who doesn’t adore the project and don’t accept constructive criticism.

As many other things on the internet, the original idea was great (renting your couch or a room in your house for tourists to accommodate and feel a local experience, but once it reached the masses, and speculative companies bought properties just to rent them and pay cheap labor to maintain the rooms, it became BS one more time.

No matter what those whose drive is pure economical touch, they always ruin it.

Yes, do it! Now! It’s the safest way, but only by choosing the right and trusted ones. Examples:

  • The expensive but good one: 1Password
  • The free, geeky and difficult one for normal users: Keepass.
  • The simple and free and beloved one: Bitwarden
  • The don’t try it ever because they will leak your data: Lastpass.

Not really. They’re not indifferent at all. In reality they act like narcissistic and like psychopathic humans. I watched a documentary years ago exploring that and talking with psychologists about symptoms and they agreed that they behave like psychopaths. And don’t forget that they are run by humans.

Corporations:

  • Can buy and sell stuff
  • Can do evil things without consequences (an employee can pay the consequences but the company will keep going).
  • They have no remorse or empathy.
  • Can manipulate to reach their goals, no matter who (from media to politics to countries).
  • Whenever somebody at the top can’t reach an economical goal, that person is fired and replaced by one who can. It’s like a hive evil mind.
  • Goal #1 is always money (absolute selfish and egomaniac), no matter what or who.

All the internals of one laptop I opened were really covered in oil, the fans were totally stuck and unable to spin (maybe the main reason why they sent it to us) and the whole thing really stank. I called the customer to ask how was that possible and to inform that those defects weren’t covered by our warranty and they told me it was used in a restaurant’s kitchen, and they didn’t understand why they couldn’t use it there.

So, we will be forced to see ads, while they can’t yet control who’s publishing those ads. I wonder why Google (and any other ad company) hasn’t been sued yet for showing and infecting malware into the people who click on their ads. Maybe is not that critical or easy for a domestic user, but corporations or governments?

And it’s not because it’s impossible to verify malware before accepting their ads, it’s because THEY DONT CARE. If they can detect music on videos for copyright claims, they can analyze everything, they can also verify publishers. And if they can’t with an algorithm, they should use humans to manually verify publishers.

Less hate and radicalism. I’m sorry to say this because I would love Lemmy to rule over Reddit, but most headlines I get are about hate: from Elon Musk, to Apple, to any browser not being Firefox or any OS not being Linux or Android.

Not technically a chore, but a chore preventer: Close the lid before flushing the toilet.

I run an Airbnb hosting in a room on my house for like 3 years and I’m still amazed by how little people actually did it. Even after we sat a signal asking for it just above the flush button. Having feces particles all around your brushes, toothbrushes, towels, etc is an image nobody has but myself it seems.

"Only when the white man has destroyed the whole forest, has killed fish and animals and all rivers are dry, will realize that no one can eat money. "

Can confirm. During my whole primary school there were two twin girls in my class and me and all my other mates could tell them apart instantly but any other child in the school couldn’t. Actually we were quite surprised when they couldn’t because for us was quite obvious to differentiate them both.

Yes, I discovered it yesterday, but while now the content is new every time, IMO its quality has decreased a lot (mainly memes, shower thoughts or news about Reddit or Musk).

agree on the nets for doors and windows. For doors there’s also some nets with magnets that can be crossed though and they will self-close perfectly every single time thanks to the magnets.

Badminton is great too, including against flies, wasps and whatever manages to get in.

well, some people don’t care, but others like me have been years there finding and joining communities, and for others who became admins and moderators, they spent a good chunk of their time to create and take care of communities over years for free. Now that has been taken from them, and even each step Reddit takes, enrages the content creators and curators even more, so they respond because they don’t want to give up, and now they may want revenge. So I totally support everything they’re doing, from filling it up with useless content to fill it up with NSFW content to avoid ads and so ruining Reddit cash flow. And I hope they keep going on for a while.

They would be indifferent if they were also indifferent about money, but they’re absolutely driven by greed, so no, they’re not indifferent: if they see a chance to make more money, they’ll go for it no matter what or who they harm with it.

After reading another post where it was shown all the private information the app requires, I’ll never even be close to it (a quick resume: location, device information, user profiles on other apps, payment information, even health information).

Edit: found a link (it’s a meme, but the screenshot shows what i’m referring to): https://lemm.ee/post/653305

either that or the porn is hidden there

Reading books, studying, learning new things, is our way to update our firmware to make new things, or give us new tools to fight anxiety or depression.

Also, to improve your math skills, you have to do maths often, and the brain will get better at it.

The brain is like a muscle that you can train to become stronger at things that hurt you or better at things that you need.

Interesting. I have a few questions for those who have already tried:

  • Does it work offline?
  • Does it has databases like Notion?
  • Does it has a browser extension to capture content from the web?

I know I can look for it myself on the web, and I’ll do right now, but I think that having here the answers will help others with the same questions.

using Minecraft to compare natural vs artificial was something I wasn’t expecting to see today. Specially comparing the quality of carrots generated by the game vs carrots planted by the player.

Texas Instruments is preparing a case against your comment.

Why there’s always the top comment in any kind of protest with a Sweet summer child already giving up at the start?

I heard this is a very American thing and I would suggest you guys to change that attitude and start fighting for your rights for once. If you keep all giving up your rights will be eaten by the corporations even further.

It’s being ok, specially after I found Wefwef (love it, but needs a better name).

But about content, I still miss a lot of the subs I was subscribed to (Oddly satisfying, TechnicalPrint, and many other specific ones). But I know that it’s only a matter of time.

Voting and posting is a bit annoying because servers are overwhelmed but I totally understand it and can wait, no problem.

Try wefwef.app. It’s a web app you have to install on your desktop so I think it should work for you

Lavender essence is used everywhere in perfume industry, from detergents to mix it with other things to create perfumes. 100ml of essence can produce a huge amount of other products, that’s why it’s so expensive.

I know a village in Spain dedicated to it for generations where most of them became rich with it.

What??? Let me cry a bit from Norway, where I pay 829NOK (82$) for 150mbps fiber

I’ve been reading their FAQ and this sounds very reasonable:

  • If you want to use their cloud for backup, it will have a cost (they have not come with one yet because they have not come that far yet. It’ll depend on their hosting cost and such).

  • But if you want to just sync between your own devices without their server, you can, and it’ll be totally free (they insist that “your data is always yours and only yours”)

/r/FoundTheStoic

Sorry, old habits from Reddit. I agree with you. This is one great thing I learnt from stoicism and is a great approach in life. It doesn’t mean to become an ignorant about global issues or don’t care at all, it means to focus on what you can do in your life to help or to have a good life:

Can you fix global warming? Not alone. Then, don’t worry about it in your day life. But, what can you do to help? Can you reduce or stop using plastic bags? Then do it. Have you the money to buy an electric car? Then do it. If not, don’t worry about it until you can.

Stoicism for me is also a great tool to reduce a big problem I can’t solve into smaller actionable problems I may be able to solve and helps me focus on them. It truly helps you to reduce stress about big problems.

Thank you! I downloaded and tried it and I like it a lot! Runs really smooth and the features like end to end encryption, decentralized and local sync between devices and being open software are enough reasons to jump onboard!

I’m not a power user and I want to use it personally for myself (not a business) and after seeing what it can do and how smooth it is, I’m in!

I agree! And it’s reversible, and it’s specially satisfying by holding it from the cable and just approaching it to the macbook and feel (it happens too fast to see it) how it moves and snaps into place no matter what. It’s the only one ever I always have had a 100% success rate ever.

no. I mostly used Reddit from mobile, and since Apollo went down, I just used it once from my laptop to find a link. Other than that, 100% lemmy using Wefwef.

I’m trying it and i would say it’s quite close. As far as I know, it lacks the last recent updates like action buttons and AI spam (that’s a positive one for me). But it has databases like Notion, my biggest requirement for a second brain, so I’m in.

Thank you! I tried but Wefwef said it wasn’t send so I kept trying.

About the smaller server, I started with .world, then I registered on .ml and now this one seems to be bloated too. I’ll keep going down in server size, hehe.

BTW, this is my only issue with Lemmy, that the user account is not auto-migrated from one server to another one.

Oh, Vivaldi. I really want to love it, I love the interface and general ideas, but the fact that in 2023 they didn’t manage yet to have an app for iOS and decided to focus first on embedding an email client inside the browser throw me off the boat. Also, there were plenty of bugs often with new releases. Maybe now it’s better but a few years ago it was quite annoying.

almost. Cogollor. I’m from Guadalajara and Cogollor started with the lavender industry much before Brihuega. But now with the internet Brihuega is the one that became famous with it.

it depends in my experience. Mine has lasted for years, but I had to stretch the net a bit to avoid contact with the middle one after a bad hit. In my experience, if one don’t think one’s at Wimbledon, they should last.

The reason why Vivaldi is not on iOS or iPadOS is because Vivaldi hasn’t developed it, not because Apple doesn’t let them in. All the other browsers are on iOS.

Can I just block memes from the /all feed?

Yes!! I remember it better now with yellow stars!
