The switching cost point is profound and real. You might just see that same dynamic at your place of employment.

I've taken a good portion of that route and there are a few more places deserving of the poo poo label.

I'm sure it didn't go well. If it was somehow framed in a sycophantic way where the police were led to believe it was their idea, I'm sure it would have gone better. Wait that might not be too difficult to do.

Opt out. If we don't exercise our rights, we lose them.

"What if they retaliate and make life difficult for me? "

That's both illegal and against policy. If someone delays your right to travel for this specific reason, delay their job by asking for their supervisor and their name and employee number. Then file a complaint. That will dissuade that public servant (and their leadership) from exhibiting such behavior and encouraging it respectively.

"But they are capturing your image in 10 skillion other public locations."

  1. Sure, and you have the option to create your own privacy in public.
  2. Further, what's the real purpose of the scanner at the TSA check if they already have that detailed image of your retina, your facial pore patterns and whatever the fsck else they store? They don't have that level of detail yet on CCTV.

If you don't care, then that's fine. Some people don't mind the slow encroachments on 4th Amendment protections. Cool. Others do. Cool also. That's why we can opt out.

Let's go back to powdered wigs, knickers and coat tails. I'm sure Mitch McConnel remembers those.

I guess the shame and expense Sony learned the hard way in 2005 has faded and now kernel invasion has become acceptable.

We as a society have really dropped the ball on the low IQ population among us. We need more options that don't include giving them guns. We can give them badges if they want - and whatever quasi military rank they prefer without giving them the means to kill us.

They have a predatory business model. "Hey we're cheaper than the competition". Once you're soaking in it and need features, they have options but it'll cost you. I reckon they have slick sales people who know how to pander to the egos of middle management as well. You know ... The people who don't actually have to use the tool but sure like to feel like they somehow matter.

You see shades of this all over law enforcement unfortunately. Public service isn't a thing anymore.

Don't on tread me

We had a CVS Pharmacy location near me that decided to leave that location. Self checkout there was based on assuming everyone was a thief. All their wounds were self inflicted. Almost everything was locked up and you could never find someone to get your item for you. The genius management thought it was going to help profitability by deterring theft. Instead it was a deterrent to willing and eager customers wanting to buy their stuff. When you step over a dollar to get to a dime, your business is on borrowed time.

The way too common misuse of the personal pronoun in the objective case. There are legitimate grammatical uses for "me" and the objective case is one of them. Learn it, kids.

That's the MS business model in partnership with PC makers. It's a juggernaut. They've operationalized it.

Would be interesting to see a gui that maximizes the content based on rotation if that were even possible

New photo challenge. If you were born after 1990 but are older than 18 {legal rider} and have two x chromosomes, you likely have two large features on your chest.

Never call the police. They are not there to help. Nothing good will happen.

Honestly if you do truly value having control over your privacy take this advice to heart. There are so many good Linux options now that are even easier than Windows to install. All it takes is a few clicks. You can even choose which UI you prefer in many cases. All those previous barriers to entry no longer exist.

I'm kind of a big deal

I've moved mostly to progressive web apps that truly stop when you close them. For sure they will try to use trackers when they're running but you can stop that with pihole or NextDNS if you're on the move with your mobile. You can regain some control if you have the motivation to do so. If you have to install an app, you can still block tracking via these methods and more.

Like many other public figures, his rhetoric matches the need for confirmation bias among his listeners. It's a business based on telling your contingency what they want to hear. Cletus and Merle are your football fans for team MAGA. They'll be on your side whether you win or lose.

I like it. And any OSS licence model is better than closed IMO. Let's see how it shakes out.

All the shitter domains are on my DNS block list. Happier for it.

I suspect he and Sinema are the tip of the iceberg. There's a few other corporate ball coddlers in there that were happy to have Manchin and Sinema the the heat that they otherwise might have to take.

I'd like to request my tax dollars stay the fsck out of religious conflict as well. This has been going on for thousands of years. I don't believe in unicorns and leprechauns but I do believe there are many serious issues to solve that have nothing to do with imaginary deities.

We might be headed toward the same conditions that spawned the French revolution. I'm not in favor of that but once the wealth transfer gets to a certain point there's historical president to draw upon.

Never call the police regardless of your ethnicity. Period. They're not going to help. If you don't get shot, they'll look for some pretext to arrest you - even if you're the victim or witness of a crime.

She got more than she Home Bargained for

I think we got a master class in how to trigger GOP dumbfsckery. The video is pure gold.

Pixel owner here. Changed to Nova launcher on day one. No search bar on my home screen and DDG is my default search engine.

I guess that might be right. As of today, the iPad Pro is basically a laptop when attached to the magic keyboard. It only has a single thunderbolt port but can connect to an external display with caveats. Apple scuppers the experience by forcing you to have the iPad display open when connected to the monitor. I'm essentially looking for an experience like Samsung Dex where I get a desktop experience when docked - but a portable experience when on the go. I'm sure they could easily do this but choose not to in order too avoid eating into MacBook sales.

There's a connection. Focus on that word "appropriate" and you might get it. Words like "appropriate" and "reasonable" are highly subjective and don't belong in public policy.

The most cynical view is likely the right one when trying to understand management decisions. They come with disingenuous anecdotes rather than hypotheses that can be falsified by data and real measurable transparent business outcomes.

Or a variation of this is TailScale configured to use NextDNS and a TS exit node. That's for anyone who doesn't want to maintain a PiHole. I've done both. Personal choice.

Wait til AI takes prominence. What effect on intellectualism that might have remains to be seen. As long as LLMs aren't tailored to bias certain views, it may just lift humanity.

It's pretty common. I ditched Amazon, Instagram and a bunch of other apps for their PWA equivalent. You can find pretty comprehensive lists on the interwebs and it's growing.

I don't think it's possible to agree more with this. This would be the strongest fodder for the existence of pure evil if one were to argue that position.

Bravo. Welcome to the world of greater control and flexibility.

Fair! I intended to have it in the original post but it didn't take. Likely my error.
