I'm sure it didn't go well. If it was somehow framed in a sycophantic way where the police were led to believe it was their idea, I'm sure it would have gone better. Wait that might not be too difficult to do.

Let's go back to powdered wigs, knickers and coat tails. I'm sure Mitch McConnel remembers those.

I guess the shame and expense Sony learned the hard way in 2005 has faded and now kernel invasion has become acceptable.

We as a society have really dropped the ball on the low IQ population among us. We need more options that don't include giving them guns. We can give them badges if they want - and whatever quasi military rank they prefer without giving them the means to kill us.

We had a CVS Pharmacy location near me that decided to leave that location. Self checkout there was based on assuming everyone was a thief. All their wounds were self inflicted. Almost everything was locked up and you could never find someone to get your item for you. The genius management thought it was going to help profitability by deterring theft. Instead it was a deterrent to willing and eager customers wanting to buy their stuff. When you step over a dollar to get to a dime, your business is on borrowed time.

Don't on tread me

Would be interesting to see a gui that maximizes the content based on rotation if that were even possible

That's the MS business model in partnership with PC makers. It's a juggernaut. They've operationalized it.

Honestly if you do truly value having control over your privacy take this advice to heart. There are so many good Linux options now that are even easier than Windows to install. All it takes is a few clicks. You can even choose which UI you prefer in many cases. All those previous barriers to entry no longer exist.

Like many other public figures, his rhetoric matches the need for confirmation bias among his listeners. It's a business based on telling your contingency what they want to hear. Cletus and Merle are your football fans for team MAGA. They'll be on your side whether you win or lose.

I suspect he and Sinema are the tip of the iceberg. There's a few other corporate ball coddlers in there that were happy to have Manchin and Sinema the the heat that they otherwise might have to take.

I've moved mostly to progressive web apps that truly stop when you close them. For sure they will try to use trackers when they're running but you can stop that with pihole or NextDNS if you're on the move with your mobile. You can regain some control if you have the motivation to do so. If you have to install an app, you can still block tracking via these methods and more.

She got more than she Home Bargained for

Never call the police regardless of your ethnicity. Period. They're not going to help. If you don't get shot, they'll look for some pretext to arrest you - even if you're the victim or witness of a crime.

The most cynical view is likely the right one when trying to understand management decisions. They come with disingenuous anecdotes rather than hypotheses that can be falsified by data and real measurable transparent business outcomes.

I don't think it's possible to agree more with this. This would be the strongest fodder for the existence of pure evil if one were to argue that position.

Wait til AI takes prominence. What effect on intellectualism that might have remains to be seen. As long as LLMs aren't tailored to bias certain views, it may just lift humanity.

It's pretty common. I ditched Amazon, Instagram and a bunch of other apps for their PWA equivalent. You can find pretty comprehensive lists on the interwebs and it's growing.

I think we got a master class in how to trigger GOP dumbfsckery. The video is pure gold.

There's a connection. Focus on that word "appropriate" and you might get it. Words like "appropriate" and "reasonable" are highly subjective and don't belong in public policy.

I guess that might be right. As of today, the iPad Pro is basically a laptop when attached to the magic keyboard. It only has a single thunderbolt port but can connect to an external display with caveats. Apple scuppers the experience by forcing you to have the iPad display open when connected to the monitor. I'm essentially looking for an experience like Samsung Dex where I get a desktop experience when docked - but a portable experience when on the go. I'm sure they could easily do this but choose not to in order too avoid eating into MacBook sales.

Bravo. Welcome to the world of greater control and flexibility.

Pixel owner here. Changed to Nova launcher on day one. No search bar on my home screen and DDG is my default search engine.

I do that as a matter of course. And the previous point is spot on. One notable instance was Best Buy. I bought something and encountered someone intending to check my receipt who happened to be management on the way out. I politely pointed out that their default position of mistrust of legitimate customers has a longer term effect on their business model. Her dishonest response sealed the deal: "we just want to make sure you purchased what you intended to purchase".

The "best people" are the ones that commit crimes and then fall on their sword for you. They're even bester when they don't complain about you when you refuse to pay for their legal defense.

An iPad pro that has multiple thunderbolt ports and connect to a 4/5k monitor in clamshell mode. I dare you, Apple.

And gives middle managers another way to misinterpret sh1t they don't understand.

Fair! I intended to have it in the original post but it didn't take. Likely my error.

NextDNS is another option that'll give you PiHole level control and customization. I will say PiHole is pretty easy to get up and running tho.

Then you should support an opt in system for ads I assume. Opt in. Heart's content. Bob's your Uncle.

Well I don't have a dog in the AI fight. I did sufficiently couch my comments as a thought experiment. I could have postulated the opposite scenario I suppose. Or none at all. I do see that there are some strong and confident predictions as to the outcomes.

The other choice is what most humans would do. That's remove yourself from what you perceive as a dangerous situation. I know it hurts fee fees when ego is on the line but better than killing someone.

I heard Texas has a ballot initiative to change the state's name to Republic of Gilead

I'm just of the general opinion that any personal data you entrust to any corporation is going to be at risk - regardless of it's assurances. There's also a risk of that corporation being legitimately acquired by another thus nullifying previous TOS, etc. Or worse case, they sell all your info anyway. Connected technology is moving quickly. What might seem safe to share today could become the basis of an insurance claim denial when they discover a genetic predisposition they believe you were obligated to disclose.

It does seem like it hovers around 50 percent but there are other factors. Some of that 50 percent knows how to manipulate the brain challenged for their own personal or political benefit. Others might have the capacity to use logic and reason but were raised not to. Or are so stubborn and righteous that they seek only validation to confirmation bias.

Well by another definition they all have the same core religious view. Just as any other religion that perpetuates collective hysteria and war. Humanity is better without any kind of organized dogma. Let's jettison the stone age thinking.

Jesus there is some hard cop-sucking cope here. A govt sanctioned gang member shows up and shoots a 15 year old. This self-aggrandizing hero kills a kid rather than retreating and licking his wounded ego. This is not public service. These are cowards who immediately soil themselves at the first sign of danger and then pat each other's soiled bottoms over how brave they are when they kill someone.

Imagine if we redirected that 17.6 billion to programs that would benefit actual breathing people in the US in actual need?
