11 years here. I was very aware the quality of content there had gone down the drain before the API stuff, so when that happened and Lemmy presented itself as a good alternative I left for good!
This is only remotely true if you have a box dedicated to doing one single thing and nothing else. That is almost certainly not the case for the vast majority of Photoshop users
Consumer software running on a consumer OS should not be grabbing all available RAM just because. Doing so will cause other applications to be moved to swap and have to be loaded back into RAM when the user goes to use them. In a server environment doing something like running a SQL server it would make more sense to grab all available RAM and start aggressively caching frequently accessed data in RAM to present it sooner with the assumption that the server's primary role is to perform SQL operations as quickly as possible.
Specifically with Photoshop what would be the benefit of it be aggressively reserving RAM beyond what is needed to function?
Agreed on it being old school reddit! There are some UI wrappers that make it look and feel like old school reddit that I use and love you might enjoy. The wrapper is called mlmym and is open source. There are a few hosts you can use, I use this one: https://o.opnxng.com
A direct link for your lemmy instance would be https://o.opnxng.com/lemmy.world
You should really do some more research. The federal government made false promises and deceived/abused the tribes involved in the forced removal. It was in no way an agreement made because "no one owned the land"
It's possible to maximize and enjoy your outcome in a system while still opposing the atrocities that system did to your ancestors. I'm a Cherokee living in Oklahoma within the Cherokee Nation and we have to constantly fight to keep what rights we still have as a federally recognized sovereign nation. It's not about "complaining and being miserable" it's about holding onto our culture and doing the best we can to take care of our people. What the US government did to our ancestors still has ramifications and affects today. Native people are the poorest ethnic group in the US and a lot of it can be attributed to the treatment of our ancestors and the abuse that still occurs from state governments even today.
Lemmy is such a rad place, I love it here
Taylor Swift's electrons changing atomic bands ✈️
Haha
Jojo is the best about this. You see and stand and think "Wow, that is useless" and then later the same stand has you thinking "My god that stand is so busted"
Okay I pull up
The benefit of having unused RAM is that every program you are using can remain in memory for quick multitasking access and when you go to launch a new program it can be loaded into that unused RAM without unloading any of the currently running programs. What part about that is a misunderstanding? Would the user be better off if the application in focus aggressively reserved RAM it didn't need to slow down every other running application? Because that's what Photoshop does
Ken M energy, haha
Unfortunately in a first past the post system voting third party is little more than throwing your vote away, or even worse taking it away from a candidate who you support that actually has a chance of winning
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island too! So stylized it could release today and still be considered beautiful
I read you're comment and it's usage of its isnt correct 😳
(this killed me to write haha)
You can add Morrowind to that timeline too, which came out in 2002, so 9 years between Morrowind and Skyrim. Crazy...

More of a thaw, really.
I think genociding natives outweighs keeping the south in line enough to put him at the bottom
It's not for the whales, it's for the long time players like myself who like the game to stay fresh. Big changes give me new opportunities to theory craft and try new things, so I play more when there are big changes VS when things are stale and getting boring. Might be part of the reason people have a hard time learning the game though
Ooooor we could push for ranked choice voting, haha
You should look into the effects on causality of going faster than the speed of light. If you can send information faster than the speed of light all kinds of wacky paradoxes show their heads. I used to believe what you did, that with time and knowledge we could overcome the speed of light. But after learning more about our universe I don't think that's the case anymore. I enjoyed this video on the topic https://youtu.be/an0M-wcHw5A
I owned one, it was a blast in the corners and it was rad that you could get a two seater six speed hybrid. The biggest let down though was how slow it was in a straight line. It was almost dangerously slow. A CR-Z Si with a K20 or K24 would have been amazing. They offered a dealer installed supercharger later in its life that got it to 200ish HP but it was too little too late.
Right there with you on the J series. I have a 1st gen TLX V6 and you can't beat the smooth power delivery and reliability. I also have an F-Type V6 and while the supercharger means it makes more power the J series feels soooo much more refined
I used it for a while after they acquired it and it got sooooo bad sooooo fast. You made the right decision
I mean, that's all they really do these days too. I've been playing since season 2 and there are definitely ups and downs across the history of the game. These days they've slowed down on new champs, like 2 a year or so. They've maybe gone a little trigger happy with item changes, but it doesn't bother me or my friend group too much. Like I said, gives us more opportunity to theory craft and less time for boring stale metas to set in. Game modes got boring for a while, but they're doing better these past couple years (Arena 2v2s is one of the best modes they've ever released)
As far as ruining it for people who like it how it is, I don't know anyone who fits that, but it's definitely possible people are getting alienated by changes. But I think it's okay alienating that small minority to keep the game alive and fresh for the vast majority
They hated him, because he spoke the truth
Why did it? Is it just because they release on the same day but have near opposite tones? Feel like I'm missing the joke haha
Isn't that how it should work though? If you sort it by comment chains with the newest comment it will almost always be nearly the same as a top sort, since the most commented on comments will likely have the newest comments under them
Jerboa for android and Mlem for iOS are already out and getting better everyday!
Give it the decade+ that Relay has had to be developed and I bet Jerboa will be really awesome :)
I read there are some issues with pre 0.18 versions of Lemmy with the latest versions of Jerboa. It should be fixed soon though, and an update as big as 0.18 for Lemmy should be rare in the future
Oh yeah, 100% agree. It's insane it isn't a top priority to me. I would have to imagine the powers that be have little to no interest in that kind of change. The world would be a much better place with ranked choice voting though, maybe someday!
Hey look, it's me in the picture! What a waste of my 15 minutes of fame
I read 6 weeks to first release
As a Honda guy (and S2000 owner) the F20C/F22C gotta be in the hall of fame. A production, naturally-aspirated 2.0L four cylinder making 240HP and revving to 9K RPM in 1999 is bonkers! It set the world record for HP per liter from an NA engine at the time, and it took Ferrari to beat that record 10 YEARS LATER with the 458 Italia. And on top of all that, they're bulletproof and can make massive power with stock internals and boost. What a marvel of engineering!
Oh yeah, K20 and K24 obviously belong on that list too :P
This post and your comment gave me nostalgia overload. I lived in a rural area growing up in the late 90s and early 00s and I was absolutely infatuated with the internet and things like the .hack games that emulated being connected. Played soooo much of that game
Niagara's free version is still pretty great too. I usually pay for apps but don't want a subscription for my launcher, so I use it in free mode. Despite the limitations it's methodology of getting you to the app you're looking for as quickly as possible is a game changer. I don't know if I'll be able to go back to icons and folders + app drawer launchers haha
I'm in the US and have a well off friend who had his Facebook hacked. The bad actors sent messages to his friends asking to borrow $500 until tomorrow because his bank accounts were locked and he needed the cash. Someone who was messaged by the bad actors posted a screenshot of a deepfaked video call he received that caused him to fall for it. Wild times we live in!
