Heh. You should have seen the post I did to recruit replacement mods.

But, seriously? A lot of these are copy/pastes. Word for word. And they're all somehow massively upvoted beyond anything else where they occur.

Like, on the edc sub, an amazing comment might have a thousand upvotes. Some of these "fake" comments had triple or more than that. And, insert surprise face almost none of them had any history in the sub. They'd never commented, never posted, didn't have the sub in their "commonly used" header.

I suspect a combination of active fuckery on an admin level, active fuckery by user groups using sock puppets, and a tiny fragment of actually upset users. I can directly say that admins ignored the fuck out of the one thing I sent them a report on, which was a death threat. Said it didn't violate reddit rules. K.

We already know that greedypigboy engages in fuckery like editing shit, and that he's actively seeking to root out anyone objecting to his fuckery. So, yeah, I 100% believe he's actively working on some part of this too.

As an example of why there's some group coordinating shit, the prevalence of "coward" in these copy/pasted rants is unusual. For one thing, it doesn't fit the actual events, so it points to a deep misunderstanding of the word coward. Then, it gets used so frequently that it boggles the mind that so many people have the same misunderstanding. This points to a small group of idiots running a campaign issuing sock puppets.

Since a decent number of the comments like this looked the same as the typical bot account, with a few months of use, but minimal activity outside of complaints, I'm not sure if I believe any of them are individual users expressing themselves. Those comments have a different feel to them than the copy/paste ones.

Don't forget that reddit has the ability to astroturf themselves. Some of those are sock puppets. Others are a coordinated effort by accounts that have never used the subs they're bitching on before.

Check the user history of some of those. They fit the standard bot pattern

Jerboa is the only actively developed option on Android right now.

That being said, a web wrapper like hermit is nice enough as an interim pick, if jerboa isn't doing it for you.

Every time I see something like this, I'm reminded of the bathroom scene from fight Club. The listing more than the do not fuck with us part.

Not in the Dick swinging sense of it, but that hunting down and targeting the very people you rely on to function cannot end well.

Reddit has cops and criminals, doctors and fighters, manual labor and execs. Not everyone is going to resist, but the cross section of humanity that does is everywhere.

Spez should actually be very glad that project mayhem isn't a real thing. He could end up with his nuts sent press release style to a couple of news outlets. He's the fucking poster boy for the anti capitalist hate brigade at this point.

Why do these always exist before the internet? We can order bullion online now. It's almost midnight in a fairly rural area

But yeah, I know a guy that will sell certain things for cash that normally require legal hurdles. But if you show up, cash in hand, he'll backdate things on his end. One phone call, I could buy out his stock in fifteen minutes because I'm a regular customer he trusts. He's usually got a few hundred thousand of goods in place.

Barring that, I'm kinda screwed at this time of night.

I know a couple of farmers that would let me buy livestock in cash like this, but that's only going to be a few thousand bucks.

I know a weed dealer that would be able to give me a few pounds if he's got it in, but I would have to call and ask how much he has.

Do services count? If so, I've got an idea for a cheat lol. Hire my wife for a back rub.

So, I just took a second and sent a text to an acquaintance and explained the scenario. Turns out you can buy a car in an hour or less. It's just a matter of paperwork to make the sale official. So, if you know a car dealer, and they have enough on their lot, you could easily get rid of most of that million in time. Most of the time wasted isn't really necessary. If the dealer and the buyer are already on the same page with the price, you could get as many cars as you have time to sign for.

Is this a joke?

4 more...

Meh, just watch it later

Whew. That joker is off the rails.

Ngl, us r/efugees are not happy with things over there.

As much as I'm coming to enjoy this, it still isn't what reddit was, nor is the app experience anything close to as feature rich. But, I'm finding other benefits here that are, and never were, possible at reddit, so it's still a good thing :)

Reddit is proof that no publicly traded company, nor any that intends to be, can be trusted with anything. Not use that was ever in doubt, but reddit has shown it in such a glaring, grotesque way that it's the poster child for how shitty corporate thought is.

I dunno. I was enjoying things. I had started moderating two subs I deeply cared about, with one having a strong sense of community building. There's an emotional response to the loss of that. But I'll be damned if I'm going to put in the work, put in the passion, when it's shit on by the very company that profits from my free labor. fuck spez, fuck reddit

Also, any protest that isn't disruptive is also ineffective.

I dunno, I was up and running in five minutes. You pick an instance, you sign up, you verify the email, and you're good to go. What server doesn't matter much, barring it closing unexpectedly and without warning. There's not enough users to need more than a handful.

He's the one that has to worry about a project mayhem castration, not the employees lol.

Liftoff recognizes more than just lemmy.world.

Go to the bottom right into profile. Upper right in the profile screen you'll see a settings gear icon. Tap that, then select accounts.

From there, it should be pretty obvious. But, yeah, it would be nice if liftoff had a front facing accounts section like most of the others do. Great app though!

If you still don't like it, connect and jerboa are currently the most reliable, with thunder being only a tad behind (but otherwise excellent) with tools g or, it was the last I checked yesterday, and I haven't seen an update for it).

But, all of those support multiple accounts.

Not that you need multiple accounts. You can access all of lemmy and kbin from a single account. You just have to search for the community within an instance, and it'll get pulled in if it isn't already. But you have to search the !community@instance, or http://instance/c/community format if it isn't already showing.

Community discovery can be a bit of a pain at times, but there's lemmyexplorer that serves as a good source until lemmy itself has more time to develop

Just say the same thing I said when I got this at r/knives. Fuck spez.

I mean, it's not even a week in yet.

You can, it'll just be a struggle.

If you stand firm, you can get enough people to recognize that there are viable alternatives, and once you hit a decent number of friends and family, it takes over on its own.

Because dht doesn't gather there. Dihydro testosterone.

Also, we do lose some hair density as we age. The beard usually doesn't, but the pubes often do. But that's more a matter of it growing back in slower as the body slows down. I'd say it's an 8/10 thing where's there's visible decrease in pube density.

Used the be a nurse's assistant, so I've seen plenty of naked people lol.

Just wait until we r/efugees get used to it and start being more active.

Oh, and if anyone converts one of the bigger reddit apps to lemmy usage, it'll bump things again because not everyone knows jerboa exists.

It's all about fucking with them. Yeah, they can pull the plug at any time. But the longer it drags out, and the more of their own rules they have to change/break along the way, the worse position they end up in.

Fuck spez, don't make it easy. Make them play the heavy. Make them do it in a way they can't pretend is justified.

"Hi, I'm sorry, but we charge an extra api fee for reddit employees"

"You have an api for a coffee shop"

"Yeah, its the Asshole Prevention Insurance, since the ceo is a giant, gaping asshole that likes to spew his filth all over things, and we want insurance that nobody from there does the same thing."

Define reasonable.

That's only part joke.

Oh, you just don't know the right crazy people.

A quote from someone I know irl, "he's lucky I don't live there. I would find him and curb stomp his albino hamster looking ass".

But even the craziest people I know haven't suggested that kind of thing about employees.

I mean, he's outright said no already. He isn't interested in doing this.

Crikey! This heah sasquatch is a hairy bugger!

Not once there's a more feature rich app. Seriously, that's all it will take. My wife is as "mainstream" as it gets, and her only objections to, trying lemmy as a whole is that the ux sucks in browsers and the only two apps that are really available lack features that should be there (like the links on jerboa not going to the right place), and little things like being able to organize subscriptions or do an in-app "multi".

My sister said pretty much the same thing. Out of my main group of friends, none are exactly "into" things like this, and only one said he'd never bother with it at all (and he hated reddit long before anyway). These are fairly casual users of social media of any kind, they aren't power users, they're the average joe. I was able to explain to them exactly how to use lemmy in less than five minutes.

The only other objection that wasn't more of an app thing is the signup delay. That's a bigger barrier to entry than anything else, and it isn't something a friendly user can help with, unlike finding new communities or how to navigate.

Eh, mostly sms and telegram.

The only people I care about use sms, and I've convinced them to use telegram for thighs sms can't do, like file sharing.

I have and use matrix for specific tasks, and I got suckered into discord for gaming and reddit. But neither get used much nowadays. There's one discord server I stay vaguely active on because internet friends use it. Post reddit implosion, the matrix isn't very useful since they were for mod chats and I'm only modding one sub until the end of the month, and that's mostly solo (no need for chats lol)

I'm keeping my eye on you, but only in the hope that you post nudes.

Yeah, it's decent. The aesthetics are iffy, but it works well

As bat shit crazy as it sounds, I don't. I let the name "come to me", or wait for the critter to pick its name.

It isn't literal woowoo hippy bullshit, but it looks like or when I try to explain it lol.

But it's a matter of letting the subconscious mind have a chance to percolate with the personality and "nature" of the pet.

But it just kind of pops into my head at some point. Might be the second I meet the animal, might be weeks later. And it never fails me because when I let that happen, the animal immediately recognizes the name as theirs. That's held true for anything but invertebrates and most fish, even a pissy iguana and an unusually smart oscar.

What sucks is that sometimes the name isn't very cool lol. For every shaitan and samson, there's a sugarplum and a cricket.

I'm almost always behind a strike to begin with, but this one is a big one.

As a side note, the ups driver that handles the route for my small town brought a package today. I was throwing down hard with the music (amon amarth, fwiw), so he gave an extra hard pound on the door to make sure it was audible over the music.

I get up, get the package, and he's throwing horns as he drives off. \m/ my metal homie in brown, \m/ indeed.

::: spoiler test testing

Aha! That got it. Three colons. Spoiler, then the text for the spoiler listing, an enter, n closing `::: and then it works. It doesn't work without the enter before the spolied text, which is just confusing and annoying imo. The >! Markdown is so much better.

But! You can enter anything after the initial ::: spoiler as the text to show before clicking

::: spoiler extra testing :::

It's working on mobile browser for me, but not on jerboa. Jerboa doesn't seem to recognize several markdown notations.

that's a screenshot with the spoiler entry from the little triangle with an ! In it from the entry box

Edit: and the jerboa update didn't bring full markdown support lol

It helped me :)

How long has it been?

2 more...

Tried it.

It might work with some subs, but the one I run solo just spammed the shit out of the requests.

Not yet possible, sadly

You gotta embrace it.

Federated space is not like reddit in that there is no single domain.

But it is like reddit in that there can be multiple communities covering the same topics within the fediverse, with different moderators, rules, subculture, and focus.

A perfect example from reddit is r/knives and r/knifeclub. They're the same thing, often with the same users, and very similar rules. But the vibe has always been different. Discussions go a different way nerdiest because the users aren't exactly the same. Both are wonderful.

Look at it like this, using another knife example because that's a hobby of mine. Bladeforums exists. Allaboutpocketknives exists. They're both knife forums. One existing does not mean the other isn't useful (though you might find arguments about either one lol). Neither of those takes away from r/knives existing. None of those invalidates YouTube knife channels (though most of those are crap tbh).

You'll also find that none of those places does anything significant in the way of connecting to each other.

That is where the fediverse shines. Everything here is inherently connected once discovered. There's places to find communities that have already been created. If you go to the "all" tab within your home instance, chances are that you'll run across them by accident in a similar way to reddit's r/all.

So, there's no need to connect communities on different instances by default. If /c/s decide to do so, that's awesome, but it's no more necessary then subreddits having a "similar subs" section in their sidebar.

Reddit is burying itself. Besides, the point isn't for reddit to die, the point is to strip it of the ability to control the information and profit from the work of users.

Remember, all those API hits spez is whining about not making money from are posts and comments from us, the users and ex users of reddit via 3rd party apps. Those posts and comments are what made reddit valuable, not the fact that reddit existed as a forum server.

Secondarily, never forget that part of spaz' plan is to keep all the nsfw posts locked into the reddit app, thus profiting off of the bodies of redditors directly, and/or by the links to onlyfans, fansly and other sources that have taken over most of the nsfw subs.

In other words, he wants to be a cyber pimp.

She makes the pull out game weak

Definitely interested, if beehaw is willing to open a new community while also adjusting to the influx.

Shit, I'll moderate it if it will help it happen. I'm still not up to speed with lemmy, but the r/cptsd community is too damn important to not migrate (I lurked there, but it has pulled me through some very bad times)

If beehaw isn't ready for new communities yet, we can find a spot somewhere, I'm sure. Or start using the one on lemmy.ml (or wherever it is)

This place is crazy town
