The main difference between the two in your analogy, that has great bearing on this particular problem, is that the machine learning model is a product that is to be monetized.

You can just keep the smoke in your mouth, no need to inhale it if it’s just for show.

Acetylene and oxygen is also explosive, but you’re still allowed to have it and use it. Battery acid is extremely corrosive and poisonous. Gasoline is extremely flammable. A garage is filled with dangers. If you can’t service a lithium-ion battery in a safe way, you shouldn’t do it, just like you shouldn’t service your brakes if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Anyone got a non-Reddit link?

I get the feeling, but in my experience it has more to do with the windows UI actual getting worse. When I use Linux, I’m happy to try out different desktop environments and shells, but they have one thing in common: they have designs that are created more thoughtfully.

It’s not just us growing old, it’s the world of technology growing shittier too!

Those artillery numbers are good!

Nope. I’ve been running Debian for the past six years after I got tired of messing with arch. I’m over my shiny new thing syndrome and am happy with old but stable software. I’ve tried some flatpaks but the only two that I use are Spotify and signal. They take a lot of space and updating is slow.

I had a nightmare where windows 11 was automatically installed on my Linux computer since it shared network with a windows one.

Exactly. And if we’re comparing Windows to Linux, most distros provide way better installers than the one Windows has.

What country are we talking? Where I’m from, the best way is to join some association, like sewing, woodworking or dancing.

What can windows as an operating system do that no other can do? Do they have magical scheduling?

I wonder if he can do that at this point. What on earth can they promise him that guarantees his safety? The only way that he doesn’t get assassinated is if he overthrows the government.

It’s really common here in Sweden. “Bastuflotte” we call them and there are a couple in every lake around where I live.

And this is one reason why I hate modern cars. But then again, there’s no alternative, and that sucks.

My old Volvo is 43 years old and has never had engine or transmission changed. It’s gone for 350,000 km and is still going strong. Is probably worth somewhere in the region of $2k. I don’t see any of the cars made today managing the same feat.

Yes, but this is a design choice made by those who make the app, not a design choice made by those that make the operating system.

If I make a screwdriver that isn’t compatible with any screws on the market, that is my poor design choice, not that of screw manufacturers.

Yes, but windows was not designed for the application. The application was designed for windows. This is a huge difference and blame for it not running on Linux should be placed at the producers of the application, not the os. If you want to criticize an os, then do so by looking at what does and does not work in the hardware interface, not by listing applications that have been designed for particular systems.

For all I know, windows could be the worst thing ever to develop applications for, but since it’s the most popular OS, most companies targets it for development. It doesn’t make it a better os.

Just start with Linux mint and cinnamon or kde desktop environment. You should be good to go with that. Kernels are not something that you usually need to worry about, the default should work fine. If you need to, it’s easy to switch to another kernel by just installing it through the package manager.

Truefitt and Hill makes a fantastic aftershave balm that I find greatly reduces razor burn and ingrown hairs. For my hands I use lanolin, it’s a bit greasy but works wonders for dry hands.

It could have to do with the make and model of the razor. Some have a more aggressive angle than others. There’s also the blades. Have you tried feather blades?

I agree. It makes it cost a bit more to defederate and therefore more valuable to keep everything open and available. The best thing with reddit was that it was a one-stop shop while it's a bit more confusing with this federation stuff. If this defederation wasn't a two-way street, it would make for weird exclusive instances that could thrive on others content without contributing.

Personal data according to gdpr is data that can identify you or be tied to you as an individual. Such things are e-mail addresses, phone numbers, names and so on. Posts and comments does not necessarily fulfill this. If you post your name, yes, but this comment that I’m making now would not be classified as personal data.

If you’re playing games, then latest software in terms of kernel and libraries are important. There’s a reason why valve switched to arch as a base for steamos. For my use case, I do a lot of coding in C using emacs so thing don’t really change that much. To each their own, that’s the beauty of Linux!

Well, as operating systems go, they both accomplish pretty much the same thing: an interface for programs so that they get access to hardware resources. One thing that Linux does is that it supports many more architectures than what windows does.

In windows, the UI is a part of the operating system so customization is a lot harder than what it is in Linux.

These are the only things that I can think of that are directly tied to the operating systems, but I’m not the most knowledgeable on these things. I honestly wonder what makes windows better as an operating system, because I can’t find anything.

That’s not due to the operating system but rather the choice of those producing the program. The operating system simply provides an interface to the underlying hardware.

Or you know, the fact that the application can’t run on Linux.

Russian soldiers seem to have been complaining about shortages for some time now. Just look at how the amount of shelling has gone down. They're sending T-55's to the front line now. Even the Kremlin will have to acknowledge the reality at some point I guess.

But how do you define the value of a $100 bill? Is it worth one hotdog, 100 hotdogs or as many hotdogs as someone is willing to trade for it?

Maybe for now, but there’s fewer and fewer around. In ten-twenty years time it will be hard to find a 90s car with reasonable mileage.

Idk. Cumbuns are heresy!

They’re smaller so there is less dirt and stuff that gets in. I also think that I’ve been unlucky with my usb-c devices, since the contact seems to break often.

Unpopular opinion: I prefer micro-usb.
