I think it would be a few months of Mortal Kombat on the off-roads to interstates and at all kinds of junctions as the assholes on the road fight each other to the death. After these guys (it's always dudes) get out of the way, there will be a long period where statisticians say loudly over and over again that getting a licence before the age of 26 is the most dangerous thing a young man can do. They will run campaigns about it, with Republicans somehow convincing people that the safer thing to do would be to get the 16 year old boys in the country driving as quickly as possible. The higher up Republicans will be saying that the men who are getting into Mortal Kombat are the better drivers and that the ones that die are worse at driving and manning, so the roads are safer as a result of the Road Kombat Accord (RCA), especially for men, even more so for young men. The lower down Republicans will act like the RCA is a great honor to get to fight in and that Road Kombat is how our ancestors have done it for generations. Liberals will be sweating and wringing their hands while weakly citing the statisticians. The Republicans will Uno reverse this line of thinking into a no-brain slogan by the name of, "trust 'Ole Statty" so that liberals are afraid to tell people to look into the statistics for fear of getting told that they are in the pocket of 'Ole Statty. Republicans will tell liberals that they are in love with, "'Ole Holes", glory holes that Ole Statty is said to frequent. Liberals will then get confused at this bizarre line of attack on their heterosexuality even though they don't believe that homosexuality is negative or deviant and so all efforts to reverse the RCA will end. Most men would just sigh and not get their driving licenses until they turn 23, with the daring ones only waiting until 20. This would settle into a constant, relatively few, Road Kombats in the end; just a constant statistic of young white trash + minorites getting killed along with a bunch of 20-something's. Most people end up assuming that the deaths were unavoidable and that there is no way to stop them. People state the stats as if they are the natural order. When people point out that the all-cause road deaths are lower in countries without Road Kombat, they will be treated as unpatriotic and ignored, becoming crackpots in the eyes of the many.
I was once like you. You can do it. I like Linux mint. Here's how to install it: Go to https://www.linuxmint.com/ and see what it's about. It's friendly, it's very Windows like, it just works. Go here for the install guide: https://linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ Pick an .iso file and download it. Go to https://etcher.balena.io/#download-etcher To download the program that puts .iso files on USB drives. Use the Balena Etcher program to burn the .iso onto a USB thumb drive. Put your non-redownloadable files with sentimental value in another drive and remove the drive from your computer. Do not skip this step, order another drive if you have to (INB4 new laptop, but don't forget this with your other machines). Plug in the USB drive that has Linux Mint on it. Power off your computer. Wait 20 seconds. Power on your computer. Mash the F2, F10, F12, and F5 keys until you get to the bios screen, or get to the bios screen if you know some other way. Find the setting that says something like "boot priority" and put USB drive above your C drive. Save and power off. Wait 20 seconds. Power on. Press F12 or whatever key you need to to get to the boot selection screen. Choose the option to boot from the Linux Mint USB drive. This is where you can test drive Linux before installing. Try ctl-alt-t to bust open a terminal. The terminal is your friend, but not required for the install. Close terminal with the command 'exit' or ctl-d or ctl-c ctl-d. Double click the install icon on the desktop. Follow instructions. Choose to delete windows forever from your life and put Linux on the hard drive. Follow instructions, they are no harder than any other wizard you have seen to install software. Reboot. Enjoy. Here are some tips: The terminal is your friend. Commands for learning the terminal, because the terminal can teach you to use the terminal (man is short for manual): man man man apt man ls man cd man vi man nano man less man pipe man mkfifo man rm apt search game ---> searches for the keyword 'game" apt update ----> this is how to update your cache. Use it to pull your software updates apt upgrade ----> this is how to apply the updates to your machine.
---End terminal stuff--- You can use your machine in the normal way too, same as any windows machine. Look around and explore. All the stuff in the software center is free (gratis). There's lots of stuff. No more .exes to get software. Look at www.fsf.org to discover why free software is important.

For me: get enough sleep and/or do exercise. Getting 9 hours is my ideal but I settle for 7 more often than I should. As for exercise: running, hitting the heavy bag, jump rope, rowing, weight lifting, swimming, walking, VR boxing (got too sweaty for it to be a long term thing), rock climbing; all these things have been good over the years or whatever you want. Cortisol builds up in your system and exercise breaks it down. You can't be stressed if you're exhausted. I think of the two as shielding and loading. Sleep increases my shielding from stressors and exercise decreases my baseline stress load. The two together are the actual answer, in my opinion.

I do agree that being closed source is a detractor to the game, but Stardew is also closed source. The comment, to me, implied that Stardew is open source, lol. The point seems orthogonal to a comparison critique of the inspiration game. Unless we are implying that games should be open source, complete, and available through other platforms generally and critique games from that point of view. I'm curious if there is any games that exist that fit that description? A game that is a cozy, charming farm simulator, is open source (GPL V3 if I can have my way), is in a source forge that would put it in a more mature development state, and is available pre-compiled outside of steam? That would be a game to behold. Perhaps if the developers see this traction, they may choose to implement some of these ideas. I think the game looks cute. I'll have to take a look.

Hey man, we're living parallel lives. I literally just did this yesterday. The command you're looking for is gdebi. Try gdebi (name of the package's file, uncompressed to a .deb) if you downloaded the .Deb from the website. tic80 will now be a usable command. To uninstall the tic80 command / program you can use apt uninstall tic80. It worked with and without sudo.
Heya, if you need pico 8, you might like to try https://tic80.com/ . Tic-80 is a Foss pico-8 like software that has a basic and has some pico to tic conversion scripts that can convert between the formats. Hope this helps!

I use this instance daily and I really like it. The experience is exactly what I'm about, audhder and sharing data. I think that I typically discover new communities by the community having a really legit post that pops up in the hot feed. I would really like if there was better discoverability of cool communities, or even a big list of all the communities so that I could browse through the less active ones that have good posts from the past. @db0 you're doing a really good job. My main technical gripe is that the Jerboa client does not search by post and only searches by community but that isn't a instance level issue. That's a developer issue for the Lemmy client. I mention it here in case you ever get a chance to bend the ear of the Lemmy developers. Now that I'm thinking of it, a hub for other fetaverse stuff to hook up to would be pretty cool or just resources in general for how to navigate fediverse. That might be outside of the scope of a runner of an instance, but the learning curve I think would be a little less steep if there was some Lemmy/Fediverse onboarding kind of built into a mega thread for new users. Well I look at it like this: I don't really care that much personally about my friends mundane things, but I do care about mine. I think that there isn't a reason for them to care about my mundane things, but I enjoy having my mundane things listened to. I like that reciprocity, so I made an effort to listen and ask questions that show I'm engaged in the conversation. I try to express empathy by saying when a situation sounds tough or fun. I have noticed that "showing up" for the conversation is what our friends want a lot of the time, and that's what we want as well a lot of the time. I have also noticed that after a few sessions of "showing up", I can actually get engaged and move beyond just showing up. I have a buddy who has a sick grandma, and the first few mentions of her I kinda had the same thoughts, like, I don't care about this lady, why should I listen. I showed up anyways and it led to some interesting conversation about the nature of mental illness because she was remembering very vivid details from her past and that led to some interesting convos about all that. I think that being able to find the enjoyment in a small talk conversation is definitely a skill, but it is rewarding in both your interpersonal relationships and in learning new things through unexpected exposure to new concepts. As a fellow autist, I'm pretty information driven, but neurotypical people, I think, are more feelings driven. The small talk stuff is super important to them and they put that up front first, I guess to judge your character? I'm not sure why, but I have noticed better interactions after I have engaged in small talk. It really is a trainable skill and when you get good at small talk, it can be enjoyable!
I have this exact use case too. I use Linux Mint with Jellyfin installed from the built in software hub. You cannot find it from the command line because it's a snap. The software app works and provides one click installation. Clicking on the jellyfin icon in your start menu brings up a browser tab that you can use to configure http access if you want. I use a raspberry pi running pihole and pivpn for a VPN and the wireguard app on my phone to connect to that VPN. This works on my cellphone over the network and allows me to access the jellyfin media via the jellyfin app. I think it works nicely. I have jellyfin media player on the laptops and the streaming works on the lan. I will caution that I haven't been able to easily set up wireguard on the laptops. I use phone to stream, so this might just be a motivation problem on my part.
I don't think that purity testing people is an attractive method of talking about free software? We should meet people where they are, and besides, if games are good, they're good. Doom started out as proprietary software and got GPL'd. It's also cool to think that reverse engineering software, like in the case of OpenMorrowwind, is a thing. Besides, I pirate proprietary software all the time with cracked DRM. The harm is in the restriction of user freedom, not necessarily in the existence of the laws if you view the laws as fake and don't adhere to them. Let's talk about cracking DRM and decompiling these games. Let's talk about modding them. Let's talk about making servers and playing them online together.
