I moved from the south to Minnesota in recent years and will never move back. The winters aren't too bad after the first. Finding a knowledgeable local is pretty easy plus the Internet can fill in the gaps.

This was my first thought. Teachers definitely need time to assess outside of class time. I would think that assessment or grading would happen while they aren't teaching. There should be a system where teachers grade outside of teaching time or during "homework/study hall" time. You would teach math for 6 hours and grade math for 2 or some breakdown that makes sense. I don't want to make teachers work anymore than they already do. The current system doesn't seem to respect them either way.

It shouldn't be unreasonable but it is damn refreshing.

Honest question, who outside of PA wanted Shapiro? I've heard even PA people say it wasn't a good choice. Not sure if I'm just out of the loop though.

I'm pretty familiar with the farming aspect of all of this, but clearly we are way beyond needing children for farming (except for some child labor law changes that I'd like to ignore in this case). To me, it sounds like a legacy issue that was never changed with the times. Just my observation

I very much enjoy sports but I don't think education and preparation should be displaced by playing a game for entertainment. School is for learning. Maybe there should be a trade school for sports that happens later or is auxillary to normal education.

I'm not really a basketball fan, but her talent/record breaking career was enough for me to follow the game at the restaurant I just happened to be attending. If I'm not the target audience and I'm pulled in, I think there's a solid chance the same pull was much stronger for BBall fans who otherwise wouldn't have cared about this specific game.

As a straight, I agree. I think my partner and I are okay. A good reality check periodically won't hurt us though.

At least howler monkeys know when to shut up

Capitalism is bad because it creates incentives for greed to people who do are not contributing. Greed is never good, but it's especially bad when you use real work to justify why people do nothing to give them crazy amounts of money.

This exactly demonstrates my mindset.

Yes the one state known for its very respectable public education in the US. I do feel bad for the students who without their knowledge, are being indoctrinated into fascist beliefs without even knowing. Let's talk about it. Let's not frame it like genocide is ever acceptable. Let's talk about how humans were tortured and killed out of curiosity and especially hate. Dehumanized animals subjected to things torturers would love to try themselves. To those people who want to keep doing it, you're on the chopping block too

Yeah those runaways that were caught were either killed or made an example of with public torture. Runaways decided that between existing in slavery, being killed on the spot, being tortured, or maybe getting away was worth the risk. It was that bad that they risked everything. I can only imagine the bravery that was needed to decide.

I was reading that he would probably hurt the surrounding 6 more than many other options and wasn't that much of a lock for PA itself. Probably not worth the tradeoff. Make several virtual locks and maybe swing PA vs make some of the 6 less sure and still be shaky in PA anyways. PA is important but potentially so much of a tossup that too many eggs in one basket may cost several surprise other places.

I guess that's another suspect of eating away people's time. If university takes more than 8 hours then it is also in question. If people want to be subjected to work outside of their 8 hour window, they should be allowed. Forcing this is crazy.

I tried Jerboa first and now I'm on connect. I like them both but I think I'll stick with connect. It might be worth a look.

I follow American politics because I know it will affect me. I feel like I need to know. I don't think that that info should exist everywhere. Getting a break is very important to me too. Everything seems to be much more political with the Internet because how much more aware we all are. I would like to see some community where it's not politics or governments or anything.

It's about damn time. The difference between Hillary's meme attempts and Walz's is crazy. I'm not sure who handled them, whether it was the candidate or a team for each, but Walz's are so much better it's insane. Chillin in cedar rapids and Pokemon go were so hard to watch. I know an election like this so much more than that, but get with the times if you rely on a younger voting pool. Walz's reminds me of Biden VP memes to a certain extent. Maybe more timeless and less fad based. Not sure but seems much more genuine this time.

I think the issue with the downvotes is because you said that slaves could just run away. It comes across like you are simplifying the problem. I don't want to assume that's what was intended, it just doesn't come across well. And, you are correct that modern times still have similar corruption. I just hope society on average understands why it's not okay compared to back then.

I completely agree. I tinker and change my PC to parts because it's fun. Did it make a difference to performance? Kinda. Was the effort put forth because of performance alone? No. People like making Legos and just put them on a shelf. There are consumer products where the customer is paying to do the work themselves for little gain above the fun of the journey. Why wouldn't it expand to many other areas? And if there's not enough people willing to do something, make it worth their while to fix it, but that's already a problem and UBI isn't the big smoking gun people claim it to be.

Yep I get it. Everything is early and has room for improvement. I am impressed with how well made these apps are with how new they are. Way back with the start of 3rd party reddit, it was sometimes pretty rough compared to where it got. That said, the completely unfriendly and abhorrent interactions those apps had to deal with since reddit has some shaky coding might explain the struggles. I know nothing about Lemmy on that front, but there's clearly devs who care and have used prior knowledge to skip some pains.

I can vibe with this. Better use a straw to help protect from those kicks to better enjoy the show.

My SO upgraded to a Ryzen 5600 and 6600 GPU from a 1050TI and some integrated old CPU and saw massive improvements for BG3. I don't know the integrated CPU but I think that made the difference for this game. Loading in went from crashes or naked people to no issue at all.

In college I had support to do something very similar to engineers without borders just under a different name but in conjunction with the program. They required a certain donation level to ensure that the work we did had the needed materials paid for and could compensate the local workers involved. That's what I was told. I wasn't auditing anything but it seemed above board. I was able to engage with doctors without borders members while there. All were committed to the cause. Many were from the same part of the world if not "state/province" and giving back after they were able to make more money elsewhere. Just about all were hardcore. We have 5000 to treat in 7 days type of hardcore. Bedside manner wasn't what you'd expect in the US, but it was about helping as many people as you could as effectively as you could. Truly eye opening though. I can't say anything about the organization, but the people who were first hand there either gathered the donations or donated themselves and went there to make a difference. I respect the hell out of those people.

I might be the 10th dentist but I grew up with the fake stuff and enjoy it far more. I didn't understand why all of the "nice syrups" tasted awful comparatively.

I also want to know more like the previous commenter. Automatic screening that I had with an old pixel phone was the best thing Google ever did for me back with a pixel 3.

As one of the "young" people at least when it comes to the Beatles, I don't hate the Beatles but I absolutely don't get the hype living decades after their big run. A few songs are annoying because of overplaying. That colors the band to a lot of people my age. I find them mostly boring and seeing the hype at the time is wild, but so will the people 20 years from now for my music. When people feel like it's over hyped then they "hate" it. I find most of the Beatles music as inoffensive and a little boring. Don't hate it but don't care for it. I think most haters probably feel similar but being controversial makes the conversation more interesting.

I feel the same way. I'm not sure if it makes it better but you're not alone.

That was my 11 to 9 year long app and I deleted it today (it was harder to delete the app than my profile). Today I bitch and moan. Tomorrow or maybe in a week I will be done and hopefully we just wash our hands of the current filth that is reddit and embrace the next gen. I'm excited to see what Lemmy can do.

I know that old media/tech platforms have a use that can be helpful. Where should I donate unused/functional tech that can be more than e-waste that isn't something I want to make money from? If I'm sitting on floppy discs and know they are going to help someone, who do I give them to?

I strongly agree with you. I'm not against assisted suicide the same way I'm not against it for non incarcerated people. The only time I would agree with nonoptional state enforced death penalty is if the person is such a danger that they can either not be contained or are somehow able to continue to do direct harm despite all efforts of containment. This would be like trying to imprison evil Superman or professor X. Extremes only fiction has been able to create. This person wasn't even close. I am wary of assisted suicide for the incarcerated only because consent isn't a strong value for prison systems and could be faked/forcibly encouraged etc.

He may have been apolitical for his time (you'd have to ask him personally to know), but many teachings align with socialism. It just relies on the individual to do it themselves instead of being state enforced. "you do you but also heaven won't accept you if you don't share wealth". Final judgement would stand in for corporeal laws in this case. When people don't subscribe to that and it actively lets people suffer, teachings might not be enough.

I absolutely see your point and agree with you. The unfortunate part is that by the time these kids graduate from highschool they have been indoctrinated. The ones I would be the most worried about aren't going to college anyways. There should be sanctions from the rest of the country that discourages people from moving there in the first place. Sanctions that discourage having kids there. If you want a family with children then get the fuck out. Help those people get the fuck out. You're right that we need to undoctrinate the older ones. That won't be as affective as just stopping people going there in the first place.
