Paxlovid kept me alive when I had COVID. This makes me really upset. People will actually die without this.

Okay, I don't agree here. These Lemmy servers are hosted largely by people, not organizations or LLCs, and individuals being legally liable is a problem.

This isn't twenty years ago where the Internet was a wild West and most things actually ended up flying, the modern legal reality is so complicated and if you want it differently, you host a Lemmy instance and federate with as much illegal activity as you want.

Lemmy.world is aiming to be the mainstream and pallet able Lemmy instance for the masses, let it be that, it's their choice

A truly lost generation

Populated niche communities. The Reddit Exodus created a big blip that now, a month later, well it seems to have died down.

A few thousand people gave Lemmy a shot, and after lemmy.world had issues with the traffic, and went down a lot this past thirty days, I think people just stopped trying.

This is the best Reddit alternative out there and still it's got such poor adoption because it's so different under the hood.

I myself feel I'm missing out on so much content here as was available on Reddit, but I'm trying to actually make a difference by not going back.

Awww, reading this makes me feel sad, but I also suspect this was a wrong number and they played this up.

I want an extremely low power laptop for programming. Slow processor, e-ink screen with a low refresh rate. I want 24 hours battery life with a solar charger to sit outside and program.

Let me be real. I never noticed outages stopping. It feels like it's daily, I'm used to it, but I think it happens so often that lemmy.world has lost its growth opportunity, and we alienated the normies. I'm still going to stay on Lemmy, and I believe you're doing the best you can, but we lost for the time being, the migration to Lemmy from Reddit is stunted.

Battle passes and most microtransactions in games. Day one patches, and GaaS games, always online games and expiring media licenses. VAC bans on Steam.

Whip cracker is actually probably false etymology, like a retcon of the origin that is popular, but actually not true.

They're inventing a technical reason to require online to make the game functional. This is insane.

Getting F-d in the A.

Someone please, please back up the old Zero Punctuation videos now, before something happens.

There is this strange idea that atheists are just rebellious against God because they don't want to be responsible for being moral, kinda like disobeying your parents and sneaking out to party.

Also, lots of theists assume atheists used to be religious, they don't really consider that people are raised without religion sometimes.

No, they mean that Autism shouldn't be cured, which is a common Gen Z take because they see all nuerodivergence as positive and innately of value.

I left shortly after the HD-DVD fiasco. When people talk about the Digg migration, this is what I think of. Looks like there was another mass migration years afterwards

That's nuts, I've been blown away by the Switch library and probably own over 500 titles.

Entirely overengineered. Redundant with better solutions. This is being pushed for hidden reasons.

How to junction magic

SD cards. They're frequently fake.

Undoubtedly going to be Elon Musk vs Jeff Bezos

I didn't read the article because I'm the worst, I just wanted to agree with the title.

That sounds bad, like it could be exploited.

This was incredible.

Still here. Never went back, but it's so hard not to.

As someone who doesn't cook, now I'm not clear on which you don't put in the oven, and what kind of paper you are supposed to use.

Honestly exactly this, if a business is impossible to exist without exploitation then it straight up shouldn't exist, and if that means our economy can't exist, it needs to be rethought so goods and services exist to be goods and services, and not a money making scam.

Not sure why you were voted down, because I feel the exact same way. No one should have to suffer vision loss from a public event, horrifying.

Looks like Five Nights at Freddy's. What movie is this?

This joke literally predates baby boomers

I had the same opinion. It's absolutely moderation that reduces the amount of acceptable opinion and behavior. I can't even have good faith discussions on controversial topics on multiple platforms because I am vaguely aware of what is considered the 'right' opinion.

A truly liberal mindset and healthy community would allow controversial opinions, but classic liberalism is demonized now in favor of absolutist values for conduct and morality.

So here's what happens. When a person says a controversial thing and they're banned, silenced, or shadow banned it reduces the amount of incidence for the offending opinion in that community, people who see the ban with the same opinion that want to participate in the community are left with choosing silence ( giving the impression that opinion was not common ) or additionally defending the person actioned against, which then also risks their removal from that community.

It's really that simple. Moderation in my opinion should only go after the real problematic illegal stuff, but we shouldn't be moderating out the actual good faith opinions that people have.

I actually have a story. I was very young and was under for 10 hours. It was terrible, I felt every moment, I was trapped in a video game, Link's Adventure. Just repeating over and over. This isn't a joke, the experience was so traumatizing I won't go through surgery again. This was over three decades ago. I don't know what went wrong, why I experienced the passage of time. I thought I had literally gone to Hell, it was torture.

I'm not joking, I don't understand. I never enjoyed any part of sex except the orgasm, and even then barely. I don't find the act of sex to be...anything except a chore trying to get to orgasm.

WTF. I was raised to put the poopy paper in the trash can and I was raised in the US. I didn't start putting it in the toilet until I was an adult, but I thought it was really common.

Renamed for the button you press on the browser when you find yourself there.

Peertube is a federated YouTube clone, like Lemmy to Reddit, or Mastodon to Twitter.

We...the people? Isn't that what US Americans say?

I honestly want a smaller Switch. I would 100% buy another Switch if I could easily stuff it in my purse like I do my Vita. I hate the trend of larger portables, they hurt my hands and make my arms tired. They're heavier and bigger than I have any use for.

I think they mean something closer to longform video essays on YouTube.

I have no idea what you're talking about at all. Water from my shower, or any shower I remember doesn't and hasn't ever looked white. This must be...a regional or water quality problem. Limestone in the water? Well water? I feel like you're about to learn this isn't a typical experience for many people.
