This is my fourth profile on the Fediverse lol. This time, I'm hoping Mbin is where I stay!

I feel like we hear this every single time though. "Largest tech leap in a hardware generation" very much means "we'll bump the graphics a little, we're still targeting 30fps though"

Ramping up his authoritarian rhetoric, Trump pledged in the lowa speech to institutionalize an authoritarian crackdown of the same sort he falsely accuses the Biden administration of implementing. “Upon taking office, I will create a new federal task force on fighting anti-Christian bias to be led by a fully reformed Department of Justice that's fair and equitable," he promised. «Its mission will be to investigate all forms of illegal discrimination, harassment and persecution against Christians in America."

This is the quote from the article about the task force.

Minecraft. There's always another automatic farm to create, a new cave to explore and a new mod to try out! Not to mention the fun that multiplayer brings...

Just run stuff out-of-the-gate

Connect to WiFi properly in a Panera (ymmv, but this was my experience with 3 different Ubuntu-based distros)

Play pretty much any game (Proton has gotten us far but it's not the end-all-be-all)

Be usable without the command line at all (tried giving my GF Linux Mint, no it's not entirely usable without the command line, and I haven't found a distro that is)

*Run Nvidia flawlessly out-of-the-box

*Be backed up fully and easily (no, TimeShift is not easy, it's just easy for you after looking up documentation for a hot minute)

*Except immutable distros like Silverblue *I know Pop_OS! comes with Nvidia drivers before anyone says that, but it's the odd-one-out

Honestly, other than the questionable Pokemon-esque models, Pocketpair seem like they have really solid heads on their shoulders

I sneezed about 5 years ago and I haven't been able to look up and to the right without pain since then. It's a minor pain, but definitely still there in my neck.

Well, that was intense lol.

Looked surprisingly polished for a project to "introduce the team" to the engine

Are you me, but Canadian? I completely and entirely agree with your comment (USA checking in). Some of our biggest issues are directly caused by our utter dependence on cars, but also by different driving laws in different areas, dumb exit / entrance designs, lack of signage in critical areas (especially regarding high-speed turns) and general disrepair of the roads. These things all compound to make accidents one of the leading causes of death worldwide.

There should be more uniform rules and regulations regarding letting just anyone drive a 2+ ton vehicle, and it's abhorrent how little you need to know to pass a driving test

Sometimes I feel like @The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website literally keeps my feed (and all my subscriptions) alive. Thank you for your service 🫡

How the hell do you even think "it's fine, I'll put this password in plain text" when literally building an app for a CREDIT UNION? Obviously it's not acceptable to do that anywhere, but you would think they would think just a little bit harder about the decision when working with such sensitive data?

Definitely thought that was Chrono at first

Somehow, people always reply very rudely regardless of my tone lol. I could be saying "we need to stop global warming" and there'll be someone like "We ALSO need to REVERSE it dumbass". Like, this has happened too much, people are way too defensive and will take any chance possible to "one-up" each other

Anker is always good!

You said you needed something more immediate, I'd say there's nothing wrong with being a waiter / waitress / bartender while learning something else. They're not the most secure jobs for sure, but they're not exactly going extinct.

Alternatively, hotel staff make a lot (at least a lot for the small town I grew up in).

If you're looking for a trade skill - HVAC, plumbing and being a mechanic will all be skills that will stick with you through life and they all pay pretty well.

Truck driving is really, really in-demand right now. If you're willing to drive 12-14 hours some days, shower at travel stops and sleep in your cab (at least, that's what I'm hearing a lot) then that could be for you.

Not shocked about the headaches (happens with most of the headsets), but I'm a little sad about the weight issues. That sucks - I'm an Android user but I was hoping Apple doing this would lead to some Android development in the same space

I don't even trust Steam, let alone Mozilla. I don't think I've ever had any credit card auto-fill on any browser I've ever had

I think LLMs are definitely "AI" in that their intelligence is artificial. If an AI in a game can be called an "AI", then LLMs like GPT should definitely get the title.

Blow-hi was how I thought it was pronounced (sorry, I would do the IPA, but I'm lazy)

Honestly, that's fair. Maybe I was being a little too harsh, plus this gen did come with more customizable settings (IE, setting to "performance mode" or "fidelity" mode)

Notable from the article: the option is disabled for mouse-and-keyboard players so this is to target tools meant to force it back on for an edge.

API refugee here as well! I'm on Mbin, but I'm in the Fediverse to stay!!

The really irritating part is that tools like Playwright let you end-to-end test your product across the big three (Chromium, Firefox and Webkit). Which, most of the time, means these products that specify "Chrome only" simply aren't E2E testing with modern tools.

I feel like every single year just gets worse than the last. Very possible it could be as simple as more widespread social media, but 2015 seemed much less scary.

Programming (React, JavaScript, Python and anything AI are hot and tend to pay well once you're in the industry), 3D Modelling, 3D Animation, Game Development, Digital Design, IT / InfoSec work (may need a few certificates to be competitive), Call Taker (these can be brutal, but good companies exist).

If you're able to walk around somewhat and can sit for very long periods of time, truck driving may be an option (again, depending on your disability specifically). Truck driving is in extremely high demand and pays pretty well, and may even hook you up with hotel rooms if you get the right benefits. You will need to be able to sit in one spot and drive for many hours sometimes though, like 12+ hours.

Writing is also an option, as is drop shipping / starting a print-on-demand company on Etsy (though these will take a while to get rolling).

As others mentioned, Stremio + Torrentio is amazing. Just make sure you use, preferably, RealDebrid with it. If you can't use RD, you can use a VPN, but it will cost you some playback speed.

PopcornTime as others have mentioned is amazing, but sadly I haven't heard much about it lately. Honestly, Stremio + Torrentio is way better though in my opinion. It's easy to set up and has a ton of shows.

I really hate to say this, but Lubuntu.

I enjoyed it for a solid few months (it's a lightweight XFCE LXQt version of Ubuntu, so it worked great on my very underpowered MacBook Pro from ages ago) so it was heartbreaking when one day, randomly, I couldn't get past the login screen and my TimeShift backups didn't work.

If it wasn't for this out-of-nowhere critical failure, I would say I loved it.

Windows Defender should be more than good enough for most users. Just make sure to use an adblocker (such as UBlock Origin), only visit HTTPS sites as much as you can (you should see a lock in the corner of the URL bar on most browsers) and ensure you always virus-scan programs you downloaded before running them.

Also, exercise caution on the Internet in general. Never just click "yes" when a program asks for admin permission - make sure you check exactly which program is trying to do it and that the publisher is reasonable. Never exit read-only mode on Office-suite documents unless you know the document is for-sure safe (exiting read-only mode allows macros to run).

Doing all of this, Windows Defender should do fine. I'm assuming 99% of this is common sense for you though, since you've already found your way to the Fediverse!

Us kbin / mbin peeps also have to cope with the fact that we have the worst image viewer of any social media ever on mobile. There isn't a save button, if you click the image it zooms absurdly close and you can't even zoom back out. You're left way too close to the image.

Sweet home Alabama!

I'm gonna get a lot of flak for this...

I really don't like Sekiro. Like, at all.

I played the inspiration for years (Tenchu) and loved that so much, but Sekiro just feels hollow in comparison. I know it's not a stealth game, nor is it trying to be, but I can't help but feel like the cliffs and stuff are just "cheap" ways of making the game more difficult. Idk, maybe I'm just not ninja enough lol...

Speaking of stealth, Dishonored. I REALLY wanted to love this game. It's just not open enough for my taste. There's only usually one main walkway to the objective (I say walkway, but there are of course roofs and stuff you can teleport to - I'm just saying, I wish you could get on the actual roofs of buildings Assassin's Creed style or explore the city open-world style). Cool story, cool theme, but the gameplay falls through for me. I felt the same way about MGS4.

Also Red Dead Redemption was meh for me. Could have been better, could have been worse. Undead Nightmare was great though.

I'd also like an ELI5. I'm not new to the game, but I'll just say I JUST hopped on the Torrentio bandwagon

This is why I use a Pixel - sadly Google is gonna see this and say "great idea!" and charge for the Pixel AI features too now lol
