Bold claim when you remember all of the horrific UI that car manufacturers utilized before everyone started using Apple and Google's UI. Sometimes I have to borrow an old car from someone and you just can't find anything. Really, I'm more in favor of bringing back physical buttons for all basic functions, but a good UI will not only make it quick and easy to say change to the next song or view trip details, but it will also prevent you from performing more complicated tasks while in motion. We'll see what GM's solution is, but I have little faith.

I have recently needed to travel for work and my duffel bag was a pain in the butt to carry around the airport. All the rolling bags I saw for purchase didn't seem well made and were pretty expensive while somehow not utilizing all of the available overhead space. Even well known brands like swiss gear seems to have critical break points on their luggage. The last trip I made, I noticed that all of the flight crew used the same brand of luggage that looked very well made and was reinforced in all the right areas. So I looked it up and found that their non-commercial line was just as shitty as everything else I was seeing, but their flight crew line was top tier... But only flight crew could buy it. So I found a website that would sell it to me! $240 for a suitcase that looks like it will last my lifetime and fits the exact dimensions of the overhead space saving me $40 per trip to not check the bag (my company doesn't cover checking bags). Return on "investment" is 6 flights or 3 round trips. The brand is Travelpro for anyone wondering. And the site I purchased from is mypilotstore.com. They even sell spare parts such as wheels/bearings or leather handles. Super happy with my purchase!!

I don't understand people that tie up their dogs like this. They're just asking for the dog to be taken. And I don't know about you, but I assume people who steal dogs don't steal them to re-home them. So why do people do this? Don't you love your dog? Wouldn't you want to prevent this entirely preventable situation if you love them? Of course, this particular photo has a whole other element of absent mindedness, so I guess they're just plain stupid ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I work for one of the largest health care companies in the US and I can attest that they are genuinely concerned with what Amazon is doing right now.

This is a weird situation and I have some insight as a Chicago resident. But I'm definitely not a lawyer, so take with a grain of salt. The way I understand it, is that under normal circumstances this situation is highly illegal as notice is required far in advance for residents to vacate the property. But under very specific emergency circumstances where the owner must vacate everyone on the property for safety, no notice is required but they have to pay to temporarily house the residents. So it doesn't matter which situation is taking place, the owner is in the wrong.

I know a couple of guys who run a VCR repair shop in Wisconsin. They mostly just sit around and talk about movies instead of repairing VCR players. In fact, I don't think they've repaired a VCR player since the 80s. Not sure how they're still in business.

While I think this is a step in the right direction, I don't think it's fair to put this on the grocers that didn't do anything wrong. This should be a labeling requirement for the manufacturer that's doing it. So instead of the one doing the harm having to take the brunt of the cost for doing it in the first place, instead the grocer has to take the time and money to do it and also keep up with any new changes. Again, step in the right direction. Never let perfect be the enemy of good.

I really don't get this. Cereal is very expensive right now, at least here in the Midwest it is. I've seen small boxes upwards of $9. I'll admit that I don't eat cereal all that much these days, but I like it occasionally and when I went to pickup my favorite box, I decided it wasn't worth it. What cash strapped family is eating boxes of cereal for dinner when they could be eating much cheaper and filling foods like beans and rice? Heck, a case of ramen noodles is cheaper than cereal. Or maybe my area is the expensive cereal zone 🤷

Same here brother. I went from almost a decade of 1.5 hour or more commutes to feeling healthier and happier than I had ever been. It was sad when we were kicked out of our apartment at the end of 2021, but we moved in with my parents temporarily and ended up buying a house in the spring using all the money we saved as a down payment. Thinking back, we saved far more than we had ever anticipated without even trying. We saved on gas, train fare, car maintenance, a dog walker, coffee or eating lunch at work. And then we also saved on just not going anywhere due to the pandemic like not vacationing or going out with friends. Even with all that, we definitely spent more money at the time on delivery orders, alcohol, and investing in home entertainment. But we still saved a shit ton and I wish every day that we could all just work from home if possible. Even aside from all the savings, think of how much less wasteful people were and how much less pollution we put into the air. Think of the extra sleep and the time spent with family instead of commuting. Having kids seemed so much more possible for the future working from home. But naw you gotta have that in-person interaction there isn't any other way except over the last 2-3 years but just forget that ever happened.

For me it was the inspiration I felt from technological improvements. I grew up in a house where my father was a network engineer and would constantly have computers opened up he was tinkering with. And all through the 90s I saw more and more improvements that made me feel like the future would be even more amazing! This persisted well into the 2000s with the coming of social media and small commercial devices like MP3 players, cell phones, etc. It just seemed like everything was improving and that if a company stopped improving, another company would come along and give the people what they want! But now I live in a world where all of the things that used to excite me have betrayed me and anything new I am extremely skeptical of. I see all kinds of new and interesting technological improvements come along and while they seem like excellent ideas that would improve my life, I also see the many ways in which they would exploit me, my privacy, and my money. I would love to have a camera doorbell in which I can see who is at the door and talk to them while I'm not at home, but those devices are horribly insecure and you have to subscribe to their services. I just can't do it and I wish we could go back to the days in which you could just buy a product that might improve in a few years and you didn't need to worry about it watching you or costing money every month. Instead you could just be excited about your little gadget and dream about what the next version would be like.

I'll tell you why we've made it here. For as long as I've been a designer, the website has served as the face of companies and therefore subject to direct criticism from the higher ups. Too many times would my team create something wonderful that would meet all our needs and test well only to have the President chime in and say he wants ticker tape in the hero... for no particular reason. And also can we add this and add that and blah blah blah ok now it's a pile of garbage that's crammed full of stuff you don't need and is confusing to use. Skip ahead to today where graphic designers have taken over the world and made everyone forcefully subject to extreme minimalism. Who's laughing now!?! Maniacally laughs

They did this in Chicago too and everyone immediately saw that it wasn't about reducing plastic, but about getting more money to the city. If they actually cared about plastic, they would actually ban it. And you know what, It's not hard at all. Think about what people were using in the 70s before plastic on everything was common. Paper grocery bags, wax paper at the deli counter, cardboard cartons for small fruit like blueberries, lettuce and potatoes laying bare on shelves instead of wrapped up in plastic bundles, beverages in cans and glass bottles. If they could do it, we can do it too.

It's framed very inaccurately in the news as well. You'll see articles about how ford reports people aren't buying their electric lineup. Meanwhile the dealership is marking them up so high that they are now priced too high for the target market. But the articles never mention that part

I've heard stories about people receiving citations for letting homeless people sleep in their garage on nights with dangerous negative temperatures in Chicago. And while I get that we have laws for a reason to prevent certain situations from occuring that may be dangerous, it seems like if your choice is definitely die from -15F overnight or risk maybe the chance that if the garage catches fire, it wasn't made to the same fire safety standards as a house.... Just seems like a no brainer to me. Usually judges are supposed to read emergency situations like this and throw the charges out, but it sounds like they won't even negotiate with this guy :/

Depends on the wood. Some wood we use for spices like cinnamon so you've probably already eaten that. But other types of wood are considered toxic not only to consume, but to the plants around it. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I'm certainly no expert on the matter.

I was going to say something similar. Nobody sells small cars anymore. And if they do, they try as hard as they can to get you to buy something else. I'm currently trying to buy a Prius and I have one on hold, but it won't be available for months and when we went to various dealers, they just didn't have any to test drive and instead wanted us to test drive their SUVs. I've never wanted a large car. In fact, I would prefer if my next car was a small electric hatchback, but they just don't sell that here in the US.

It's really all going to depend on your tastes and lifestyle. Like I could recommend that you get a dog and start learning how to train dogs as a hobby, but that's just not going to work for everyone. What's important is that you explore things and maybe even try some hobbies that could potentially improve your well-being. Maybe you live somewhere near a good hiking spot and you could take up hiking to get outdoors and get more exercise. Maybe you could learn how to cook and explore how to make healthy meals that suit you better. Or maybe you just want to create something and you could take up woodworking or make model planes or something. The possibilities are endless, you just need to decide what you'd like to get out of it.

Personally, I spend most of my time for work indoors on a computer, so most of my hobbies involve using my hands and getting outdoors. I took up a lot of extra hobbies during covid for obvious reasons. So here goes my list of >!hobbies that will maybe give you some ideas:

• Cooking/baking/bread
• Candy making
• Jam making
• Gardening
• Canning (goes great with gardening!)
• Succulents
• Mixology
• Dog training
• Camping/hiking (this one is minimal only because I don't live somewhere with good hiking spots)
• Board games, video games, and movies during the winter when I can't go outside

Other things I've considered taking up but haven't for various reasons:

• 3D printing
• Bonsais
• Home brewing

I have an all around mutt that we tested and learned that among everything else, he has a good chunk of Lab DNA. But when we really found out that his personality was truly lab was when we took him to the lake and let him off leash. He could have run around the Forrest and chased squirrels which he loves to do, but instead he chose to run down to the pier and jump into the lake even though he had never done it before. Almost as if it was perfectly natural for him. He still hates baths tho 🤣
