I’m sick to my stomach. My healthy labrador died suddenly on Saturday. He was fine Friday afternoon, got nauseous Friday night, and I was waiting for the vet to open at 8am Saturday to get him in there. He got unresponsive and barely breathing around 6am and I rushed him to the vet ER, and he didn’t make it. The vet said he had a “torsioned spleen” or something like that.

I’ve got an absolutely soul crushing amount of guilt that I didn’t get him to the ER on Friday night. My dog trusted me to protect him and take care of him, and I completely betrayed that trust. I’m in such a place of deep sorrow that it’s impossible to explain with words. Every time I start to fall asleep, I’m suddenly wide awake trying to figure out why I decided not to act sooner.

Not sure why I’m sharing this, I guess I just had to get it off my chest.

“Withstand voltage” is what got me.

You’re an amazing person, and I hope you know that. Thank you.

Hey thanks, I appreciate you. What you’re saying is all probably true, but I can’t shake this horrible feeling that I failed him. I like my dog more than I like most people I meet, and he was with me all day every day. I hope this feeling lessens with time.

I was in endpoint management and security until last year. I got my A+ and sec+, and couldn’t find a job. I did actually find a job, but these fucks wanted to pay me less than I’m making in business ops now. So anything bad these companies have coming to them, they absolutely deserve it.

“Losing free labor will hurt our business”

-signed, the plantation owner who made $193,000,000 last year

7/10 meme, I got a chuckle when I saw “mandatory voluntary “

Just curious here, because I don’t really know how this works - will they have to disclose how many shares they sold to power users prior to the IPO? I’d love for that number to be as close to zero as possible.

Pornhub pulls out of Texas

Bravo to 404media for the headline.

As someone else mentioned about VPNs, by the time all this nonsense is over with, California is going to look like they have 200 million people there, if you look at web traffic.

I feel like you’re doing everyone a disservice when you don’t tell us the most beneficial way for us to hear your music.

Dude over here trying to stay relevant.

Seriously, watt are they even doing?

In this case, customer service is giving roughly 80% / 95% discounts. Which I think bolsters your point even further.

the users feeling entitled to both have a sub that was taken care of, and to shit on the mods, was quite perplexing.

New Reddit, in a nutshell. I really liked that sub back when things were good.

“Nuclear powered” has no reference to their weapons capabilities, but instead how it generates electricity to run the ship.

Back in the old days, subs had diesel generators that required air to run the generators (like any fossil fuel powered engine) that recharged the batteries that powered the ship while submerged. That means that if the batteries were running low, the sub would need to surface to use the diesel engines to recharge the batteries so they could dive again. With the invention of nuclear powered subs, surfacing wasn’t needed except for replenishing breathing air. Which I think is like a few days or maybe a week or two. Or whatever, I’m not an expert on this.

Now, that’s not saying that a lot of nuclear powered subs don’t also carry nukes (like tridents, for example). But “nuclear powered sub” doesn’t have any bearing on that. It’s purely describing how the sub generates electricity.

I hope that any submariners that read this will correct me if I’m wrong. This is all based on info I read years ago.

As my accountant once told me: if it floats, flies, or fucks, lease it.

The party of “personal responsibility” doesn’t want people to be personally responsible for raising their children.

You’re not doing anything wrong, you’re doing it exactly right.

Can you trust whatever AI you use, implicitly? I already know the answer, but I really want to hear people say it. These AI hype men are seriously promising us capabilities that may appear down the road, without actually demonstrating use cases that are relevant today. “Some day it may do this, or that”. Enough already, it’s bullshit.

Good. There are consequences to actions and even inactions, and people need to experience the “find out” part after they fuck around.

Clean water, air, and food. There’s plastic in everything. I don’t think any of us will ever get to experience any of this ever again.

Just stay off YouTube for a fucking month. Or even a week. If the traffic plummets, then we win. Why’s it so hard to understand this?

Hell, make it one day where nobody uses YouTube.

On newer cars, there is actually a chip in there (the valve stem, where you put air in your tire) for the tire pressure monitoring system. It tells you what pressure each tire is at on the dashboard.

Chains are only useful if there’s snow compacted onto the road (like in a lot of mountainous areas). Winter tires are useful because they stay softer in cold weather, while summer tires get hard as a rock below a certain temp, turning your car (or cybertruck in this case) into a sled. There are also studded snow tires, but they’re useless or even dangerous on roads with no snow.

This isn’t solving any problem, this is yet another mask to push content advertisements in front of people.

That looks better.

However, what if it were possible to hail a small electric vehicle right when you needed it – via a taxi- or Uber-style app

Uber style app. Seriously, fuck no. Send trains or don’t, fuck Uber and their business model.

Jesucristo. Can you guys just not use YouTube for like a month? Seriously, when they roll out unpopular features, just don’t fucking use it. Why is this all too hard to understand?

Now there’s a fucking surprise. What a fraud.

recall taking screenshots periodically

Seriously, you didn’t get through the first paragraph?

the notion of a tool that silently takes a screenshot of your desktop every five seconds”

Saying “periodically” is a pretty trivial way of putting it.

Microsoft and Adobe fighting each other over who gets enshittification of the decade award. Sam Altman is probably crafting a victory speech about what chatGPT 12 might possibly be able to do, someday. The sooner all this snake oil hype crashes and burns, the better off we’ll all be.

I wasn't swearing at anyone. Was my reply wrong? The only way tech companies tech take notice is if people don’t use their services when they’re unhappy with it.

I mean, do they think they’re the only ones that have guns, and know how to use them? They can have 40 guns each, but they still only have two hands.

I’ve actually been thinking about this. If the RNC ends up paying his legal bills, wouldn’t that qualify as income, that he has to pay taxes on?

Whoa now, let’s keep this civilized.

Imagine how mad the marines would be if they could actually read this.

I’m not speaking for them, but I’m thinking they meant that Hitler won the battle for power, but the Allies won the war. The book would look a lot different if Hitler won the war. In this context, “we” are the allies.

Hear hear

Pasta salad and mayo just sounds wrong to me. I generally use a red wine vinaigrette, it holds up better at a barbecue.

Wear hearing protection when you do anything loud. Mowing your lawn, going to concerts, working in a factory. PROTECT YOUR EARS. Once you have hearing loss, you can’t get it back.

I’m barely over 40 and I get to get fit for hearing aids in a few weeks. Those will cost me around $4k. Insurance won’t cover all of it because apparently hearing is a luxury that people don’t need. It also may or may not help solve the tinnitus problem I’ve had for a while now, which is slowly driving me insane.

I drive a 20 year old Toyota, and swapped out the double din for a carplay compatible unit for $299, plus the cost of a custom wiring harness. You get the best of technology, without the worst of car manufacturers poaching your data. I still have my book of CDs that I compiled over 25 years or so, but without the headache of having to load disks while I’m driving. The phone connects automatically when I turn the car on. I’ve only had to connect to it once, when I first installed the new head unit.

FWIW, the factory stereo I replaced had a cassette / 6 disk cd deck in it. I just don’t like swapping disks when I’m driving 75 mph on the freeway.

Care to expound on this thought? I’d argue that not watching news hardly makes someone uninformed. For example, Sinclair communications owns something like 200 local tv stations in the US, and they all parrot the exact same right wing BS on the local market nightly news. Nexstar is another example - they write a BS diatribe and every news station they own repeats nonsense disguised as news.

I’d argue that being able to distinguish propaganda from “news” is an important part of critical thought, more important than being informed by local “news”.

They’re all just jumping off cliffs because their friends are doing it, too.

Ah yes. Lemmings
