This is seriously sad and awful that people would go this far to derail a community. It makes me concerned for other communities as well. Since they have succeeded in having shitpost closed does this mean they will just move on to the next community? That being said here is some very useful information on the subject and what can be done to help curb CSAM.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline: You can report CSAM to the CyberTipline online or by calling 1-800-843-5678. Your report will be forwarded to a law enforcement agency for investigation. The National Sexual Assault Hotline: If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, you can call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 800-656-HOPE (4673) or chat online. The hotline is available 24/7 and provides free, confidential support.

The National Child Abuse Hotline: If you suspect child abuse, you can call the National Child Abuse Hotline at 800-4-A-CHILD (422-4453). The hotline is available 24/7 and provides free, confidential support. Thorn: Thorn is a non-profit organization that works to fight child sexual abuse. They provide resources on how to prevent CSAM and how to report it.

Stop It Now!: Stop It Now! is an organization that works to prevent child sexual abuse. They provide resources on how to talk to children about sexual abuse and how to report it.

Childhelp USA: Childhelp USA is a non-profit organization that provides crisis intervention and prevention services to children and families. They have a 24/7 hotline at 1-800-422-4453. Here are some tips to prevent CSAM:

Talk to your children about online safety and the dangers of CSAM.

Teach your children about the importance of keeping their personal information private. Monitor your children's online activity.

Be aware of the signs of CSAM, such as children being secretive or withdrawn, or having changes in their behavior. Report any suspected CSAM to the authorities immediately.

Companies are notoriously guilty of hindering their competition illegally, usually they don't have a leg to stand on and fold under the weight of tech giants. I hope this is going to start a trend because amazon does the exact same thing.

I have to wonder if Interpol could help with issues like this I know there are agencies that work together globally to help protect missing and exploited children.

submission statement:

Google has been ordered to pay $338.7 million in damages for patent infringement related to its Chromecast streaming devices.

The patents in question relate to "a system for presenting and controlling content on a display device."

Touchstream Technologies, Inc., the patent holder, claims that Google met with them in 2011 to discuss a partnership, but Google was not interested.

The first generation Chromecast was released in 2013, and the latest Chromecast with Google TV was launched in 2022.

The jury's decision is not final, as Google has said that it intends to appeal.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been accused of operating secret police stations in countries around the world. These stations are reportedly used to monitor and intimidate Chinese citizens who live abroad, as well as to track and silence critics of the CCP.

In 2019, the United States Department of Justice indicted two Chinese citizens for operating an illegal Chinese police station in New York City. The station was reportedly used to collect information on Chinese dissidents living in the United States.

In 2020, a report by Safeguard Defenders, a human rights group, found evidence of more than 100 secret CCP police stations operating in countries around the world. The report also found that the CCP was using these stations to track and harass Chinese citizens who were critical of the government.

The CCP has denied the existence of these secret police stations, but the evidence suggests otherwise. The stations are a clear violation of the sovereignty of the countries in which they operate, and they pose a serious threat to the freedom of Chinese citizens living abroad.

In addition to the secret police stations, the CCP has also been accused of using other methods to monitor and intimidate Chinese citizens abroad. For example, the CCP has been known to hack into the phones and computers of Chinese citizens, and it has also been known to use social media to track and harass critics of the government.

The CCP's efforts to monitor and intimidate Chinese citizens abroad are a serious threat to freedom of speech and expression. These efforts also send a clear message to Chinese citizens that they are not free to speak out against the government, even when they are living outside of China.

Even if they aren't they are providing it and weaponizing it to destroy communities this is a sad day. To think people would stoop this low is truly unhinged and unforgivable.

Corporations continue to hinder innovation through these pratices. I have to wonder what could be if they stepped off the field.

Big or small the work is noted, respected and apricated!

The Tories are out of touch. Middle class only exists on paper anymore, and the Tories' answer is to cut taxes for the rich?

Missinformation

You might be laughing at the fog, but you aren't far from the truth period take a moment to look into the John Deere hacker's period you have these rough black farmers learning how to hack their combined machines, so they can work on them without having to have proprietary software, it is quite interesting and amazing period

Do not thank me, please review this https://www.factcheck.org/2022/03/the-facts-on-de-nazifying-ukraine/ the picture you provided was disingenuous.

Your concern is my concern. From a news standpoint nothing should be behind a paywall IMO and hindering people's ability to receive important news should be criminal. It's just as bad as peer review journals being caught up in paywalls when you can just write a letter to the person responsible for the finding to get the paper for free.

I will try to seek out answers on this however I would advise you to directly contact admins for a better clarification into the details. I don't want to mince words or accidently misrepresent facts. Just know I'm not trying to pass the buck I just don't have all the answers.

However, our admins including AvaddonLFC are much for versed and knowledgeable in these matters, so I respectfully request that you ask them directly for a better understanding.

This should shock no one everything they are doing is to create a Facebook clone of sorts where they can easily feed people information and garner their attention in the form of ads. This truly marks the hour in which everyone needs to start looking for and at more open systems. When reddit went public and Tencent bought some of the company the writing was already on the wall.

Yeah that is nothing for them a drop in a bucket thrown into the ocean

People keep trying to tell me global warming isn't real yet here we are.

You are very right the same is being seen in the united states with Evangelical fanatics taking over all forms of government and a disturbing pace.

Do you apply this logic to racial slurs as well?

Hey, so I'm a nobody but I always have something to say and here are some things for you to think about.

Yeah, you're frustrated and it's clear that you're concerned about the health of the fediverse, and that's a good attitude. Just know that I can't speak for .world admins, but I might be able to help you understand some of their decisions.

Have you even considered that they're just trying to organically grow the userbase?

.world is one of the most popular instances, and for good reason. With open registrations, they will come. You know the movie Field of Dreams? He built it, and they came. The same could be said about .world.

Another thought to chew on is the fact that they're just not able to close registrations at this time.

The instance is being DDoSed to the point of possibly stretching resources thin, and they may have to balance the influx of new users at this time.

At the end of the day, whatever the reason is, sure, the admins need to work hard on creating policies that help lemmy and lemmy.world grow in a healthy way.

The health of lemmy should come first, but in order to stay healthy, admins have to make hard choices, and there has to be a little give and take from everyone, including the users of the instance, not just them.

It's good to outline your concerns, but maybe next time consider being a little more constructive and looking at the whole picture.

There are a lot of moving parts, and I, for one, am quite impressed with what I've seen so far. They've chosen the right servers, mitigated serious issues behind the scenes, and above all else, have put up with me.

So, yeah, maybe chill out a little bit and give them some time to work things out.

I'm sure they're doing their best to keep the fediverse healthy, and I'm confident that they'll figure things out.

In the meantime, why don't you go create some content and help build up the fediverse?

That's always a good way to make a difference.

Hi, can you please elaborate. I would like to understand what it is you are saying. Depending on the context I may be able to provide additional information for you.

Google will no longer be updating Android 4.4 KitKat, which was first released in 2013.

The decision was made because the active device count on KitKat is below 1%, and Google wants to focus its resources on supporting newer versions of Android. KitKat devices will not receive versions of the Play Services APK beyond 23.30.99.

This announcement is a reminder that all software and hardware platforms have a finite lifespan. While smartphones can get prolonged support and usability by way of software updates, it is important to keep in mind that eventually, they will no longer be supported.

I too can confirm this. I own the LE Ruby Red DS and the hinge on the right side failed. It lasted for quite some time but the stress factor was inevitable. I don't think the hinge it's self-failed but the plastic around it, if that makes any sense. I do hope that there is a return to folding phones only if for reducing the size of carrying around basically a tablet in your pocket. I currently have a s20/21 fe and the screen while nice, spacious and crisp is quite big for pockets.

The statement that "cheaper and vastly safer alternative techs are NOT always available" is not accurate. Solar and wind energy are becoming more viable as technology improves, and the land requirements for these technologies are not as significant as they once were. In addition, coal and natural gas are not as safe as they are often made out to be. Coal mining is a dangerous occupation, and coal-fired power plants can release harmful pollutants into the air. Natural gas is also a fossil fuel, and its combustion releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

The cost of coal and natural gas is likely to increase in the future, as the world's reserves of these resources dwindle. The environmental impacts of coal and natural gas are also becoming increasingly well-known, and public pressure is growing for a transition to cleaner energy sources. The development of new technologies, such as battery storage and smart grids, is making it easier to integrate renewable energy sources into the electricity grid.

In conclusion, there are a number of reasons to believe that cheaper and vastly safer alternative technologies to coal and natural gas are becoming more available. These technologies offer a number of advantages over traditional fossil fuels, and they are likely to play an increasingly important role in the global energy mix in the years to come.

That stinks, I hope they expand compatiblity.

Scary thing is you may be able to avoid google but are you able to avoid all the tech giants?

You're clearly not qualified to be giving any type of "master class" on anything. Your comments are:

  1. Harmful
  2. Offensive
  3. In bad faith

You are clearly unwilling to contribute to a productive discussion that follows the community guidelines. If you want to have a legitimate discussion about the topics, then you need to start by being respectful of others. That means abiding by the community guidelines. If you can't do that, then I suggest you find a different forum to participate in."

Google has released the Nearby Share app for Windows, making it easier than ever to share files between Android devices and Windows computers.

The app is similar to Apple's AirDrop feature, and it does not require cables or accounts. To use Nearby Share, you simply need to make sure that both devices are nearby and connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

During the Nearby Share beta program, 1.7 million people downloaded the application, sending over 50 million files between their Android and Windows devices, according to Google.

OpenAI has released an official ChatGPT app for Android, which is now available in four countries.

The app allows users to interact with ChatGPT, a conversational AI language model, through text or speech. ChatGPT can be used for a variety of tasks, including summarization, text composition, and analysis. However, it is important to note that ChatGPT is not always accurate, and should not be used as a factual reference.

The Android version of the ChatGPT app is similar to the iOS version, and includes features such as chat history synchronization and support for ChatGPT Plus subscription accounts. The app is available for download on the Google Play Store, and OpenAI plans to expand the rollout to more countries over the next week.

My personal values are irrelevant. I don't make the rules I just abide by them to the letter. I am fully aware that not everyone who posts here is trying to get a Pulitzer Prize or has the time to write a ten-page editorial of the information they obtained from said news sites.

You may and already have come to your own conclusions in the reasoning for the language within this updated rule change. Not everyone is born a gifted writer and for those who lack the confidence using a system like bard may in fact teach, educate and expands one's abilities.

To be blunt the rule changes are not of our doing we were informed that the way in which people post here is not in proper regulations of how lemmy.worl/admins would like posts to be posted.

I do not know if these rule changes are just for this community or others but I advise you to make reports of any community that does not fall in line with said rules to ensure that they are able to continue being in compliance.

The truth (not a lawyer) in most cases forums, online communities and other mediums on the internet are protected under the fair use doctrine in most countries. Even though this is clearly the case and there is nothing illegal being done such as blatant copy right violations it is lemmy.world's full discretion in how they operate this server.

This means we will abide by any update to the rules that are enforced upon us even if they do not violate any laws. I hope these clears things up because you are not wrong in what you said. If you have more questions about the rules regarding posting direct articles with proper citations being against the rules, then by all means contact the admins and inform them of your concerns.

At the end of the day your concerns are ours since we want to create a healthy engaging community in which everyone is able to access important news events without violating lemmy.worlds rules.

Nah, I was actually in agreement with everything froggy said.

Sometimes I don't make sense.

I am not here to argue with you or to persuade you to change your opinion. I am only here to provide you with some information and facts that you may find useful or interesting.

You are right that solar and wind energy may not be viable solutions everywhere, depending on the availability of resources, the cost of installation and maintenance, the environmental impacts, and the social acceptance.

However, there are also many challenges and risks associated with nuclear energy, such as the disposal of radioactive waste, the proliferation of nuclear weapons, the safety of nuclear power plants and fusion devices, and the potential for environmental contamination and human health hazards in case of accidents or mishandling.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, renewable energy sources accounted for about 20% of U.S. electricity generation in 2020, while nuclear energy accounted for about 19%. Solar and wind energy grew at the fastest rate in U.S. history in 2020, while nuclear energy remained relatively stable³. Some studies have suggested that it is possible to supply about 75-80% of U.S. electricity needs with solar and wind energy, if the system were designed with excess capacity and storage⁴.

Nuclear energy is not a renewable source of energy, as uranium is a finite resource that will eventually run out. Moreover, nuclear energy is not carbon-free, as the process of mining, refining, and preparing uranium emits greenhouse gases. Nuclear waste is also a major environmental problem that has no permanent solution yet.

I hope this information helps you to understand some of the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear energy compared to solar and wind energy. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to share them with me. 😊

That brings back memories! Around the 2000s I would go to a friend's house back when you could create a lan party with the original Xbox play Halo and get blitz out of my mind. I would be so high that I would find a hiding spot in the map so i could collect myself. Those carefree times really do mean something in this 2/7 news dump of a world with all of its perpetual issues that never seem to stop. Maybe we were ignorant back then, but I guess that's why they call it bliss! Thank you for sharing your story with me!

It's true that there are many things that society can do to prevent environmental disaster, and the wealthy are certainly not the only ones who need to make changes. But let's not forget that billionaires have a disproportionate amount of wealth and power, and they use this power to influence government policy and corporate practices in ways that benefit themselves at the expense of the rest of society.

For example, billionaires have been major beneficiaries of tax cuts that have shifted the tax burden onto the middle class and the poor. They have also used their money to lobby for policies that weaken environmental regulations and promote climate change denial. And they have used their control over corporations to exploit workers, drive down wages, and ship jobs overseas.

. They are actively shaping the system in ways that benefit them at the expense of everyone else. And this is why it is so important to hold them accountable. Sure, we can all make changes to reduce our environmental impact.

But these changes will have a much greater impact if they are made by the wealthy. For example, if billionaires stopped taking private jets, this would have a much greater impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions than if the average person gave up eating meat.

So, to answer your question, I it's a global responsibility and everyone including the billionaires living their lives above us all must start acting to help humanity as a whole. We need to make changes that we can control, and we also need to hold billionaires accountable for their actions. Only by doing both can we hope to make a real difference in the fight against climate change and other environmental problems.

But let's not kid ourselves. The wealthy are not going to give up their power and privilege without a fight. They will use their money and influence to try to derail any efforts to hold them accountable. That's why it is so important to build a mass movement of people who are willing to stand up to the billionaires and demand that they be held accountable for their actions.

The rich are certainly not the only ones who need to make change, but you can't ignore that they must be held accountable for the damage they do to the world. They have a disproportionate amount of money and power, and they use this power to bend society and governments into their image.

Hey, I took some time to see things from your perspective, but I need to make something very clear.

We have a firm policy against racial slurs, even when discussing them. This is because these words are weaponized to dehumanize people and create a sense that some people are not equal to others. This also includes when they are not used with malicious intent. We want to create a space where everyone feels safe and respected, and that includes avoiding the use of racial slurs at all times under any circumstance.

If you want to talk about racial slurs, you must self-censor and avoid using these words. If you do not, your comments will be removed. If you are unable to abide by the rules on the sidebar, then let us know.

I've heard this argument more times than I would like to admit. The idea that people who are uncomfortable with offensive language are simply uncomfortable with themselves is a blunt and overplayed strawman.

Your arguments are ones of bad faith. For example, the word "f**ry princess" may not be offensive when used to describe a young girl who wants to be one. However, you, I, and everyone reading this very well knows it is used to belittle women and LGBTQ+ people alike. By your logic, you are clearly ignoring the fact that language can be harmful even when it is not intended to.

The same is true for racial slurs. These words were created to dehumanize and denigrate people of color. Even when they are not used with malicious intent, they can still be harmful because they can trigger generational trauma and pain. If that was not the case, people who use the word would not still use the very word that was used while black men, women, and children met their ends hanging from a tree.

I honestly don't think you are frustrated but just pandering to justify the use of hateful language. I could be wrong however it makes no difference.

Please remember as I stated in the beginning:

Such language will not be tolerated under any circumstances and will be promptly removed. It is important to remember that these words have a real and harmful impact on people. We want to create a space where everyone feels safe and respected, and that includes avoiding the use of racial slurs.

Even if a source does have a bias one way or the other, that doesn't mean it's always wrong. It's important to be aware of the bias, but you can still get accurate information from biased sources.

I agree that it's important to challenge your beliefs. One way to do this is to digest opposing viewpoints even if you don't agree with them and some sugar to them unless you are a diabetic an down the hatch they go! You can do this by reading news sources that you disagree with, or by talking to people who have different beliefs than you in a productive non name calling way, be human, be kind don't be a poptart.

Now here is some fat to chew on, it's important to be aware of the dangers of echo chambers. Echo chambers create conformation bias. This can lead to people becoming more and more extreme in their views, and it can make it harder for them to see the other side of the issue.

So, how do you find a balance between being open to different viewpoints and avoiding echo chambers? I think the best way is to be critical of everything you see and hear, and to be aware ofyour own biases. If you do that, you'll be better equipped to make up your own mind about the issues, even if you don't agree with everyone else.

I won't pretend to know everything, to be honest I really don't know much so if you have ideas that could contribute to this guide on misinformation, I'm all ears!
