Discussing piracy isn’t illegal. It would be one thing if they were hosting pirated content, but they don’t even link to anything.

If that were to change I’d understand the decision, but this just seems silly to me.

Whoa wait wtf, they blocked a mushroom community? I didn’t hear about that

Fr what a selfish kid

I totally agree. Plus it’s an additional fail safe in case one instance gets too big or does something that makes people want to migrate, without losing popular communities that it might have.

Further consolidation is a major loss

What content? You mean the comments generally discussing piracy? Because there’s no actual pirated content being hosted, or even linked to, in that community.

Well then you better block this one too, because Lemmy.world defederated from the tanky instances. In fact, most instances did.

But again, they’re not even linking to any pirated content, torrents or otherwise.

Yes, that’s why CP is banned. It being distributed and sold encourages the further making of it, thus leading to more instances of children being abused.

Lemmy.ca users have been saying that anyone’s welcome, regardless of where they’re from. Sopuli.xyz is really solid too, and also welcomes everyone.

I’m on sh.it just.works and have enjoyed it a lot. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter a whole lot though, you can still join all the communities you did before. So which instance you choose isn’t a massive deal.

What? No, they speak New Mexican

I’m confused, are you saying you don’t care about the icons at all? Like if they all look like complete ass you wouldn’t mind?

I’m also confused as to why you singled out IOS users, as Android literally has a built in system to change each and every icon yourself for free. If nobody cared that wouldn’t exist.

Yeah, before all the new Reddit refugees the biggest instance was Lemmygrad, which was run and used exclusively by tankies. It gave Lemmy a bad wrap unfortunately.

Obviously with all the new users that’s changed, with instances like Lemmy.World quickly surpassing it. Now I’m not even sure if Lemmygrad is in the top 5. But my point is that most big instances have defederated from Lemmygrad, lemmy.world included.

Believe it or not, I do respect their decision. After all, this is their instance and it’s their right to decide what to do with it.

This is also a complete overreaction started by a transphobic troll account, that doesn’t actually protect anyone from anything. Both can be true.

No worries man, it’s my bad. Seems like lots of people misunderstood so that’s on me for not being clearer.

IOS has no such feature, what’re you talking about? This is exclusive to Reddit, and technically Apollo as a donation system. Apple didn’t make this, and it’s not a system level feature. Reddit made this, and you access this nonsense within their own app.

Also, congrats, you now know an Android user who cares about what their device looks like. I’m genuinely surprised I’m the first though, as the level of customization Android offers makes for an ideal place for those looking to customize the look of their device.

Btw try not to use so many strawman arguments in the future. I never said people used third party launchers exclusively to change icons, for example. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional, but figured I’d let you know regardless.

Exactly this. I think the real problem is that “infinite” is virtually impossible to comprehend, so people regularly misunderstand what it means and how it works.

Everyone loves a brojob

Second half is a bad take. Uncharted on the highest difficulties is fucking brutal.

And I’m saying that’s exceedingly dumb

Just make an account on a different instance. That’s a lot easier than making one of your own.

I’d recommend either Sh.itjust.works, sopuli.xyz, Lemmy.ca, or Lemmy.dbzer0.com.

Sopuli is primarily Finnish, and Lemmy.ca Canadian, but both state that they’re open and welcoming to all.

I’m on sh.itjust.works and it’s been great.

I’m responding to this specific comment. I agree that the argument Trump’s lawyers are attempting to make is incredibly stupid.

My username is pure sarcasm unfortunately

Smart, might as well shut down this whole thread then as we’re discussing piracy here too, right?

I wouldn’t say everything. The only things they got wrong were them saying that there’s no upvote and downvote buttons, and saying that it’s really quiet due to the lack of users.

I said this in another comment, but check out Memmy if you haven’t already! It’s the best I’ve used so far and totally reminds me of Apollo.

Check out Memmy if you haven’t already. It’s the best IOS Lemmy app I’ve tried by far, and really reminds me of Apollo.

This web app is really nice too though. It’s cool that we’re getting such good options.

Haunting in Connecticut. I’m from Connecticut.

But we’re not really calculating anything. I was 12 in 2012 and 8 in 2008. That’s much less a calculation and more so just observing numbers.

You can still tell when someone sounds stiff and awkward vs when someone sounds genuine.

If someone gives an emotional monologue in tears, their acting ability should be clear. Even if you don’t speak the language.

3 more...

Cmon man, don’t be obtuse. Nobody’s arguing that knowing the language doesn’t help. All we’re saying is that someone being dogshit at VA, vs when they’re competent, is pretty clear even if you don’t know the language.

Obviously knowing the language helps drastically and will help you clue in on more of the subtleties, especially when comparing VA’s that’re actually good vs just “sounding emotional”.

1 more...

I agree with you, I don’t think anyone’s arguing against that. My sole point is that you can tell the difference between a bad performance and a good one, regardless of language. And it actually sounds like you agree with me.

Where did it seem like I was upset?

In other words, “laws = ethics when it suits my argument”.

What about prohibition?

Anti-abortion laws?

Laws against trans people?

Yup, agreed

Nobody’s linking anything

The problem is that these communities never linked to any form of illegal content. It’s against their rules to do so. So no laws were being broken.

…you realize there are dozens of other instances right? Nobody has to make another one lol, you can just join one of the others.

I want LW to remain a place for nuance and that recognizes the intricacies of topics.

I just physically cringed

So what? Do people really care that much about Lemmy’s karma points? Making an account on a different instance is pretty much a non issue.
