Because the people with that holier than thou attitude believe that if they just convince enough people, their socialist/progressive third party that gets one vote every election will definitely overtake both Dems and Republicans in a total landslide, and will immediately stop the genocide in Palestine and the war in Ukraine once they're in. Or they're a tankie accelerationist and want trump to win because they think it will lead to a revolution and their perfect political utopia will be in place in mere weeks. They'd just rather die of old age, suffering in a corrupt and polluted fascist hell decades after all their friends were culled, than ever admit that they are wrong or ever accept they will never live to see their desired future.

Edit: I realize I sound super rude and aggressive in the last sentence, sorry. I say they'll never live to see it because something like eliminating capitalism is an extreme long term goal. It can't happen overnight, or in a single geneation. It's too deeply engrained in the entire operation of the world as it stands. It has to be pruned back until it can be removed. It's like that one phrase, something like men plant trees in whose shade they'll never sit, or something like that. I don't think I'll live to see it either, but I would love to. I'd definitely prefer a socialist society, capitalism has been the cause of all my life's traumas. But you just can't get the world to change that fast.

Some months ago, I suddenly realized my birth certificate could be problem, I was born in a red state but only lived there for less than a year as a baby before my mom moved us back to a state in New England. And of course I ended up being trans. So I looked up my birth state's rules and just couldn't stop crying, I even left work early that day because I was so upset by it. Fuck the right, fuck the bigots.

No, it actually is The Onion. It's a Clickhole article. Clickhole is a side website The Onion runs.

Cheaper development budgets, no room for QA, rushed out the door; still sold for 70 bucks.

A person understands the reason they're eating only plants with no animal byproducts. An animal doesn't. An animal is just confused and irritated that their food was changed for the worse by their owner. If their diet and mountain of supplement pills/powders did not actually meet their dietary needs because it wasn't an exact match for their regular food or natural prey, they would still end up malnourished. And not every cat's dietary needs are the same or stay the same as they age.

Malnourished or not, you also wouldn't be able to stop your cat from finding a mouse or insect which snuck into your home and devouring them to enhance their compromised diet. You cannot make a carnivore vegan, you can only abuse them into living in a way they do not naturally live and do not want to live, until they find a way to avoid you for just long enough to go against your wishes and savage another animal, as is their instinctive nature.

Furthermore, do you really think animals have no joy in what they eat, that that's only a human quality? Nutrition doesn't matter to the animal, they just want to eat what they want to eat. Cats almost never turn down an offer of cream or milk despite 90% or more of them being lactose intolerant. It's not nutrients their body needs or can absorb, and actively makes them feel ill. But they want it anyway because it's tasty and they aren't able to consider the consequences of their actions as far in advance as humans can.

Edit: In fact, going off that same point but for humans, you could probably make a human live off some kind of tasteless nutrient bar that gives everything you could need, but it wouldn't mean they'd enjoy it. Oh wait, we did do that before, as a cruel punishment for prisoners in the US, fucking nutraloaf!

It's gotta be a copypasta, the format seems very similar to that one about TES Oblivion, with the person asking for rumors at a bar and being told a guy went missing in the mountains or whatever. Been a while since I loaded up a stalker game, but the "it's encrypted so don't go snooping" bit I think is actual game dialog, no random person would say this.

Some advice, just block the users posting the politics, if your Lemmy phone app or the desktop browser version support doing so. If they post stuff you don't want to see now, they'll post stuff you don't want to see again in the future.

Me personally, that's what I do. My mental health is in a tight spot and I don't have the energy for the doomer shit any more, so I'd like to hang onto some of my essence, because I can just wait to go full doomer panic mode if Trump cucks his way into 2024 and starts banning trans people from life (which would affect me).

Also it's worth considering, a lot of these people being "no I want the Dems to lose because some bullshit" might be fucking tankies/accelerationists sneaking in here again, not all of them but a bunch. That idea really clicked when a friend of mine pointed the possibility out.

I'm not that versed in politics because of my similar aversion to it as you seem to have, but I do know those idiots exist, are annoying and loud, and are just contrarion moron cowards who want democracy to end so they can con someone else into doing a whole revolution for them after it gets bad. Even though none of them would last through the getting bad part.

So just block people posting uncomfy memes, ignore Internet psychos, vote in November, including local elections wherever possible, and we'll all hopefully come out of this without too much lasting trauma.

You're still making them do something they didn't consent to. They will still chew on bugs and small prey animals (when they get access to them, which isn't often for indoor cats), because it's etched into their behavior. They will take every opportunity they get. You can't make a cat vegan, you can only force a cat on a vegan diet. Can't you understand the qualitative difference there?

They can't eat all types of peanut butter. If a brand of peanut butter that contains xylitol is fed to a dog, it will make them sick and potentially kill them. Xylitol is used as an artificial sweetener, and is very toxic to dogs. Don't ever feed your pets human food without checking what's in the ingredients label.

Seafood is great, as long as you live near a coast. I think that gives a better chance that that "fishy" smell and taste is not overwhelming, because if that's what you don't like about it, I'm pretty sure it mostly shouldn't be that way, I think it tends to be more mild the fresher they are. When in-land stores and restaurants import fish, it could be longer between catch and cooking than a coastal place.

Or you just don't like any seafood and nothing will change your mind, also valid.

If anyone in politics besides her or another Republican did this, their entire party would be up in arms screaming the word impeachment and making demands. It's small potatoes in the context of people being people, but these are congresspeople and they all collectively decide the legal rights we have. And her party is actively stripping the rights of women and marginalized groups. Why shouldn't they be scrutinized?

I'll probably get whooshed like I always do in this fucking place, but. Andonuts says the f slur in Toby Fox's earthbound halloween hack, that's the "beef". It was released back in 2008 by a teenaged Toby, and he regrets writing that and thinks it was very cringe today, so I'm sure the idea of there actually being a problem is exaggerated.

Hmm, I'm a little surprised at how consistent the responses are, but I guess I shouldn't be. I just know that if I did that spam until death and pass it all on to family thing that others here are about, well I wouldn't trust my family to adequately handle big money after my death; they'd fuck it up, the greedy shitty ones would try and steal the will, keep some other family members from getting any; just anything to not just do what I wanted, and I wouldn't be there to deal with it.

But regardless, since I found out I was trans, 1% death chance is too big for me. I want to live and experience my life approximately closer to how it always should have been, even though I lost a couple decades getting there. Hell, just the million dollars, even if we say it's somehow still taxed and the fed takes a bunch, could resolve all my debts, pay for all my trans surgeries, and I'd still have more to help my family without them just fucking it all up. But I still wouldn't want to risk the death for that.

I feel the same way, my block list is massive. The app I use to browse, the lemmy version of Boost, also has a word filter option too, which isn't on the desktop browser interface (I don't think), so I can block names of certain people and current event incidents I'm not interested in seeing any more, without needing to block communities or users. It only works when the post actually has the words in the title, so ironic memes slip through all the time, but its better than nothing.

I don't know, burning a pile of copies of mein kampf would be pretty based, I think it really depends on the book.

The existence of an estrogen laser would imply the possibility of a testosterone laser, so if someone didn't like getting estrogen lasered, they could just go get the t laser fired at them after. A hell of a game of laser tag, that.

Projection or wrong thread?

When someone starts accusing their partner of cheating out of the blue, it can rather often mean they themselves have been cheating and are projecting their insecurity about it onto their non-cheating partner. I'm sorry you went through that, but it's great to hear you're in a better situation now.

On my way to work, there's a house I always pass with an "autistic child" sign, a yellow square sign, next to the road. I just feel offended seeing it. Even if the individual in question could be low functioning, inattentive, actually at risk of walking into the street or something, that sign has probably been there past their childhood into adulthood, and a sign to announce your child's autism to drivers is just... something else.

Oh wow, I could never put to words why I didn't like the body type system either, but you nailed it. Yeah, I also wish that games could just give you sliders and/or more presets or something to have actual variety. If a game will only support curvy girls and buff dudes, but won't also let people make, for instance, cute androgynous cat boys, or anything else a person might fancy, then what's the point of it?

I love CDDA and played it loads on desktop, but I could never get into the Android version. The touchscreen controls are painful, but of course they kind of can't be anything but painful. I think most people play with Bluetooth keyboards, but I figure that if I have to use a Bluetooth keyboard, I might as well just be playing it at my desktop. Still have CDDA installed on my phone anyway though.

Unless there's some other meaning for it, ong is some kind of slang, it's short for "on god". I think it's used in places where one might otherwise say "I swear to god" instead. Of course like that other person said it could also be a weird typo, but it seems deliberate to me.

I'm 260 pounds and just started HRT this week, I think you're being way too hard on yourself. 180-200 sounds like goals from where I'm stuck sitting!

Yep, that's me. When I still actively used reddit, I felt this with every message, was always afraid I was off the mark, or didn't read the room, or said something wrong or ignorant.

I just turned off notifications and ignored my karma count to just post through it. Though, I usually said things that either never got any votes, or that people seemed to generally agree with. And I was relieved whenever I did notice the numbers going up instead of down, and occasionally worked up the courage to check responses and continue conversations, but usually nothing.

This has really not changed since moving to Lemmy, and really just persists through every website. It sucks, I mostly just don't comment.

I think I read before that it's actually made by some/all of the people who worked on terrafirmacraft, but then again maybe I'm misremembering that detail. Too lazy to look it up again.

There are people out there that I am convinced will take their mental gymnastics with them to the grave. Maybe they'd start to think they might have been a teensy tiny bit off, but only after they've already drowned in a massive flood, or collapsed to heat stroke under a broiling sun in a formerly very temperate region.

Just the same, there's probably plenty of unvaccinated people who died to covid some time during the peak years of the pandemic, who, were it possible, would have wanted to argue with the mortician that their autopsy was wrong and they had obviously died to something else.

Edit: Wait, morticians are the funeral people. I meant whoever does the autopsy.

Yeah, the R looks like the among us thing, even got the little backpack.

And then when they do update the game, and add 20 more dollars of new dlc at the same time, if you're someone who likes mods, well congratulations. Your installation is ruined and you can't go back to your saved game(s) without there being some level of headache involved. At this point a high seas version of stellaris would probably be a relief, since there's no auto updates and all dlcs. But here I am, a sucker who bought like three-quarters of the dlc over the years and can't even play it because I'll just be sad my last playthrough got ended prematurely with a dlc release... Fuck Paradox and all their games.

I use emoji constantly on other platforms, specifically discord and steam. Like, I basically replace all my sentence-ending punctuation with doofy faces. But I don't like using default unicode emoji, they suck. And I also generally don't feel comfortable using emoji around strangers anyway.

A way of thinking that, when granted power, criminalizes every other way of thinking and discards freedom 100% of the time... That countries don't actively do something to prevent its prevalence works like a crack in the foundation of the freedoms they enforce. I'd not suggest legalized contextual murder like this op is asking about, but a clear outlawing of an ideology that brings nooses and book burnings with it, definitely.
