The reason why I love my #Vivaldi_browser and possibly you too

@fuser @Lem0n, the only AI I most use and which is really useful for me is Andisearch.

@spaduf @igalmarino, almost all fediverse sites are more or less linkable (limited by the corresponding format, which are different), like Lemmy, Mastodon, Friendica, Diaspora......

@fuser, Andi certainly is a fresh wind, it was the first search engine with AI which appears, before Google, Bing and the others. Great work of two very nice and friendly devs, Angie Hoover and Jed White, with an open ear to the user in their Discord channel for suggestions, feature request, bug report (well, it's still in developement) or simple chat.

@Interstellar_1 @The_v, agree, I've used in the past Kubuntu along with Windows in Dual boot and in all the years I only needed the command line 2 times. In current Linux, at least in many distros, the command line is less and less necessary.

@imaqtpie, that is the point, the best browser is the one which suits the best your needs and use.
Apart of Vivaldi as main browser, I also have Firefox and the Otter Browser for test reasons (f.Exmpl to see if an isue is due to Chromium or general, FF with Gecko and Otter with Qt5)

@kylemsguy @pizzahoe @mechoman444 @catfish @frostwhitewolf @CorruptBuddha @legion02, maybe, it is clear that the standby power is very low, depending on the active modules, and that it does not need much cooling.
Although in a closed space with the ventilation slits covered, it is possible that heat can accumulate. Normally for the laptop to wake up from standby requires a clear intervention, such as pressing a key or opening the screen, not very likely when in a case

@kylemsguy @pizzahoe @mechoman444 @catfish @frostwhitewolf @CorruptBuddha @legion02, the only cause may be that some process is still running. In Windows quite possible with so many telemetry and threads of some stupid services, which causes so many new words that you invent to disable them on a new PC.

@swnt, Vivaldi is Chromium based (Blink). Never had any problems with Vivaldi in any page, but I know that some pages us the discriminating Browsersniffings, which should be illegal, but even with this I never had a problem, because Vivaldi appears by in their UA as Chrome, ever since Vivaldi removed their branding from the UA a few years ago because of these criminal practices of some pages.
Now in the Desktop browser you can even use BingChat, because Vivaldi automaticly switch its UA to EDGE

@fuser, the fediverse has nothing to do with monolithic social networks, controlled by large multinationals. It doesn't matter if you use an instance of Lemmy, Friendica, Diaspora, or Mastodon. etc., are really of the people and independent of large corporations and linkable with each other. Here in Mastodon I see posts of all these in my Timeline and I suppose you too, like the one where I am.

@fuser, apart of Vivaldi social, the instance made by the Vivaldi browser for it's users, I'm also since long time ago in Lemmy.ml (with another Nick), also conected to Mastodon.

@fuser, with Mastodon you can even logging in Pixelfed. I love the #fediverse.

@Zeoic @Cethin, it's just fair, I don't ask either when I gut all this shit out.

@Black_Gulaman @soyagi, at the moment, but M$ isn't much better anyway, both are userdata hogs, like also Amazon and Meta, because of permissive or even inexistent privacy laws in the USA.

@stebo02 @worfamerryman, not only for privacy, its also to bypass country restrictions, eg, try to watch a movie or serie in the German publicTV in their official Homepage, from other country, even of the EC. You can't without VPN.

@JoYo, not only, Lemmy right now

@Evkob @Gargari, this is not so clear, Mozilla has made a pact with the devil some years ago and is sponsored by Google, it even employs several Google devs who develop FF, the risk of depending on outside investors. Chromium is certainly from Google, but it is, just like Gecko, FOSS and therefore every browser developer is free to gut it, throwing out any Google API, which they are doing in Vivaldi (leaving some to the user's choice in settings), no homecalls to Google.

@kylemsguy @pizzahoe @catfish @frostwhitewolf @CorruptBuddha @legion02,It sure is a bug if the system wakes up without user intervention, this shouldn't happen.
But I think that the cause is that some service remains active, this would explain that the system wakes up but also the heating.
Therefore, while MS does not fix this, it would be advisable to shut down the system to avoid this. This, if you use an SSD is not such a big difference to boot it.

@natebluehooves @dl007, to find what I search I use mostly these search engines with AI without BigBrother company spyware, is in these where AI is usefull because "de-hazzle" the internet with direct answers based on reliable resources, ChatGPT can't do this, it has a knowledge base from 2021 and can't give reliable and up-to-date answers because of this.

https://you.com (free account to use it)

@krevassi @IcyPractice @CookieJarObserver @DeriHunter @Stijn, anyway, don't confuse AI search with AI chats, like ChatGPT, because these have a maybe better Language model, but it's knowledge base is limited (the one of ChatGPT is from 2021), they don't search in the web. Because of this the answers are not reliable or at least outdated.

@imaqtpie, I don't think so, I only a normal user with the experience since my first modem with 56k.
Vivaldi since 7 years, which fits all my needs, due it's more a Internet suite than a browser, with all the funcionality you mauy need, without using extensions, apart of the end2end encrypted sync with Vivaldi Mobile, without sharing userdata to Google (Alphabet), what Mozilla does.

@legion02 @CorruptBuddha, don't blame laptops, blame Windows. The difference between PC/laptops and Mac is compatibility, to use any OS you want, Mac is only compatible with Mac, apart from costing twice as much as a PC/Laptop with equivalent system performance and features.

@legion02; ????, not even using Windows my laptop (a cheap one that cost me €350) heats up above 50º when I play a 3D FPS game or when I render to an Image. If it gets too hot it can depend on too many things, that your Sys Specs are too low, that the ventilation does not work well because it is dirty, that the thermal paste needs to be renewed, there are too many applications that are loaded at boot that take up too much RAM.....
In any case, it is not normal and requires you to check it.

@ijeff, the one I use most is this one right in the browser, it save locally by default in Html (also PDF and Text) and you can copy a webpage in it without loosing the UI and links. Works also great in mobile and as PWA.

@Icarus, special for codes is Phind, a AI search engine for devs

https://www.phind.com

None of the search engines is perfect, all of them have pros and flaws, because of this, if you need a deeper research it is inevitable to have several on hand.

@legion02, Yes, this confuses many that turning it off with the default power button enters a Quick Start modus, well this, in Stanby. Normally nothing happens, apart from continuing to drain battery life and naturally it can get hot if put in a bag.
This currently with an SSD does not make much sense, since there is not much difference between Cold Start and Quick Start, same as I always desactivate Hibernation and Index service, 2 of the worst Memory hogs. Index also not needed with an SSD.

@legion02, and it usually does on Windows and Linux as well, and it shouldn't be a warm-up reason. But if it is put in a bag that prevents ventilation, even a weak voltage can heat up the Laptop. The same if it is used for example, which I see sometimes, to use it on top of a cushion or on the knees, because this covers the ventilation slits, the same also if they are covered by dust.
In any case, something is wrong if the Laptop gets hot, except in heavy use, eg in gaming or similar.

@legion02, I dont use sleep, I shut down the system, more if I put it in a bag to carry it to an other site. It's logical that the system still in Standby also need ventilation.
With modern systems with an SSD a Cold start is only a few seconds slower than to start from Sleep mode, because of this the last mode isnt really necessary, apart a cold start from power off avoid a lot of crap in memory and reset the counter of using time to zero, save battery and is healthier for the system.

@Stijn @krevassi, Startpage is probably one of the best search engines, I used it among others as second of my list, but for first searches I use 2 AI search engines which show me direct answers to complex questions.

https://www.perplexity.ai
and sometimes also
https://you.com

All of these protect privacy and made by small independent startups

@swnt @Extrahammer, Vivaldi Android has an inbuild ad and trackerblocker, same as in Desktop, apart an own feature to play YouTube Videos, because of this you don't need the YT app in Android.

@imaqtpie @The_Picard_Maneuver, in Vivaldi you can create your own style to your like and need, or also download one of te more than 3500 user made themes.
