Mostly here to kill time. Big fan of open source game engine recreations/source ports, firmware modding, Linux, and gaming in general.

No.

Honestly USB C adapters. If you EDC a portable power bank it's worth looking into a USB C to micro and thunderbolt adapter. It's a lot easier than carrying around multiple cords and an easy way to help out friends and coworkers.

I think I got mine for a few dollars on Ali Express

Yeah a lot of the Benadryl memes out there are about dementia.

It uses a ranking algorithm. You can read more about it here but I don't think it's done at an individual level like Reddit.

You need to have sound on. She's getting cussed at for what she's doing

SpotiFlyer. It matches songs in a Spotify playlist to songs on YouTube and downloads them. Great if you like Spotify's curated and niche playlists but don't like their app or restrictions on playback.

Antenna Pod is great for podcasts but that's not really piracy.

  1. Lemmy is now a real alternative. When reddit imploded Lemmy wasn't fully set up to take advantage of the exodus, so a lot of users came over to the fediverse and gave up right away. There were no phone apps, the user interface was rudimentary, and communities weren't yet alive. Next time reddit screws up in a high profile way, and they will screw up, the fediverse will be ready.

I definitely think having mobile apps is an essential step. I was looking at alternative platforms such as Raddle.me but using a mobile browser was an extra hurdle (similar to using the official Reddit app) that kept me from regularly checking in.

  1. Lemmy has way more potential than reddit. Reddit's leadership has always been incompetent and slow at fixing problems. The fediverse has been very responsive to user feedback in comparison.

I could see this causing issues later. We've already seen issues arise with some instances using the .ml domain or not being updated immediately.

Defederation is another beast all together. Most of an instance might be fine but a few problematic communities could create problems leading to arguments and, as much as I hate the term, drama.

I'd recommend Kiwi. You can use it combined with Wikipedia's ZIM files to have access to just about all of Wikipedia offline.

I would recommend installing all of Libre Office's programs for work purposes. It's free and open source so you won't have to deal with licenses and unwanted updates.

Calibre would be a good tool to have for reading ebooks and converting files.

There's also apps like RedditOffline so if you have an intermittent connection you can browse threads offline. I imagine similar services exist for other platforms.

Similar to the classic joke:

Why did the sperm cross the road?

Because I put on the wrong socks this morning.

The man in the photo reminds me a bit of Brutal Moose.

Maybe it's just the facial hair. I feel like there's a video of him in a similar stance/outfit

By pirating an NFT you mean saving the image? Because the owner of an NFT doesn't always own the copyright or license.

Maybe it's because I associate roleplaying with the idea of player choice but I really don't think it added a ton to the RPG aspect. World depth? Sure but not by much.

Wonder if they forgot their Steam login

I think my next challenge run should be beating the PS3 without reloading. If the game crashes or I clip into a rock I need to start over.

That I prefer PlayStation over Xbox. I ended up playing the Killzone, Resistance, and inFamous series as well as Red Dead Redemption on a PS3 and I really liked the dashboard and trophy system. I even got used to the controller. I was a die hard Xbox 360 guy in high school but I think that was mostly because it's what my friends were using.

It does help consoles modding seems to be easier on the PlayStation side of things.

Thank you!

I think Wikis themselves are more useful than ever but I don't know how well a political Wiki would go over. I could see it being very easy to get accused of being biased in one direction.

You may want to do some digging and see if something similar exists though I doubt a lot of websites would be open to outside submissions.

If you do decide to create one I would be interested to see a historical background section. For example if a page is dedicated to improving failing infrastructure in the United States including when and why it was developed, prior large pushes for maintenance, and the history of funding.

I feel like knowing how things go the way that they are should be a bigger part of people's political views. That is unrelated to your question though; just an idea.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck. Chances are it's probably a duck.

That said they may be taking it as a sign of the other person's larger ideology. For example if they have a strong anti immigration stance they might come to the conclusion that the person is racist.

There's sometimes the mentality if you give this person an inch they'll run with it so they may say it to stop things from derailing

There's also a ton of dog whistles the alt right use. Remember when the milk emoji was used on Twitter? What about the okay sign? Hawaiian shirts?

I'm not surprised. TheFloW has done this before with PS4/5 exploits . A lot of players don't update their firmware in the hopes they'll be able to run something like HEN.

  1. You have a physical copy, but want a digital version.

Kind of similar but I feel like pirating content you have legal access to (Steam, Spotify, Amazon, Netflix, etc.) in a way to get around DRM is ethical.

For example wanting to listen to songs you have on Spotify on an iPod or reading ebooks purchased from Amazon on your PC.

I feel like a majority of the article is just looking back at what's come out since 2020 and even then it doesn't seem to use the progression we've seen to theorize about new potential devices.

But if a company does take a big risk to push the market forward, we have a responsibility as the buyers to reward that creativity with our support.

Producing a unique device takes a lot of courage and risk of failure. It is an expensive venture that very few are willing to attempt. But this is absolutely something that needs to happen some day.

These two paragraphs from the conclusion seems to sum up the writers thoughts.

Have you heard of ProtonDB? It rates the current state of games and recommended fixes.

Gaming on Linux has improved a lot over the years. It's typically only multiplayer games with Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) that you'll run into major issues with. Mod managers frequently require a fair amount of extra work and reading but I think a lot of Bethesda games have easy work arounds and documentation.

There's a bunch of them in the wild

I bought an Ali Express Love Mei brand metal case for a phone I had. It probably tripled the weight of the phone on top of making it significantly larger.

I am not sure how reputable Zippia (or other sources) are when it comes to statistics but if accurate and similar 2022 the tech industry is still mostly men and caucasian.

I wasn't able to find statistics on sexual orientation. There are a lot of companies vagluely bragging about how inclusive they are and not much in the way of stats.

ProtonUp is pretty neat. It's a bit of an easier way to keep Proton-GE up to date

I mean ideally you wouldn't need to create new accounts. You should be able to interact with instances outside of the one you signed up for.

If the issue is with different instances having different rules and defederation than you are pretty much back where you started either way even with a sort of back up subscription list

I suppose it might be useful for when an instance goes does like some with the .ml domain have.

It doesn't hurt to be cautious. Trusted sources have occasionally included malicious materials and blindsided users

In your quick settings menu next to the brightness bar there's typically a sun you can click to toggle it.

Is there not something similar on your device?

It works fine. You'll likely notice a slight decrease in performance and a lot of the time you'll be using Windows versions of games instead of native Linux titles because that's what's available. Sometimes Lutris install scripts won't play nice with pirated game installers so you might have to look at the script and see what tweaks it uses.

What makes NixOS standout?

I find a lot of admins forget or neglect bridges which can be frustrating

How else are you going to find out about the Benadryl challenge?

Mostly for tinkering. If I'm setting up an abandonware game or modding a game I prefer to do so in Lutris. It makes it easier to hop back and forth.

I also use desktop mode for a lot of indie games I may only be playing for small amounts of time

Me too

I'd be interested in hearing people's moderately unpopular or neutral opinions on tech and games. A lot of popular opinion-based posts on Reddit seemed to have strong diehard opinions in one direction and people who disagreed were downvoted.

It gets a bit tiring to see. I like seeing discussions with moderate opinions where people acknowledge the good and bad regardless of whether they agree with them. If I'm in a PS3 community trying to get an Xbox 360 controller to work with PS3XPAD or if I'm in a Fallout community and I say I like Fallout 4 more than New Vegas because it felt less baron that should be fine. It's just chatting. The reason I mention tech and games specifically is because I know how slippery of a slope it can be to discuss online.

I hope that kind of makes sense.

The hidden volume part is important. Key disclosure laws are a thing in multiple countries
