Are these consequences in the room with us right now?

Post is funny, but AI memes are weird

The rates of gun ownership between Switzerland and the USA are vastly different. USA ownership is almost double that of Switzerland.

I'm not denying your take that it's a multifaceted issue, but equating the gun ownership between Switzerland and the USA doesn't paint an accurate picture.

This is a very good and fair point. I did consider this and was beginning to actively investigate something like this already, specifically lemmy.zip. I have been pondering a move to something more appropriate for awhile now. Unfortunately the Mali situation is forcing my hand to act more quickly, and I wanted to pick an instance that has a known track record. The World admins have successfully run both lemmy.world as well as their mastodon instances. I do not know much about the gaming-centric instances and their admins enough to jump in blindly at this time. If I had more time to develop those connections with them, I would have done so (and was planning to do so).

I do think that something like a gaming-centric instance is the way forward long-term and supports the Fediverse's values and it will be something I deeply consider when evaluating a potential future migration due to future circumstances or for something like a PS6 community establishment. If there were ever a way to more easily migrate communities, I will also consider this down the line.

how did I do?

I used to use a bot in one of my communities to help me out. Turns out it spammed way too much. Once I got feedback from the community I turned it off. I now have sources fed to me privately via RSS and then filter content based on what I think the community will enjoy and post it manually. Is it harder? Yes. But the community has more engagement, comments more, and votes positively more often since I started doing it this way. I also gain consistent new subscribers daily. I also have control over the "nozzle" so if multiple stories are worth posting but there are too many, I can sideline some for when the news slows down and post them later.

Written? Guess we'll have to ban the Bible then

I agree completely but just so you know, it's a positive feedback loop even if the outcome is negative.

A positive feedback loop is one where the input creates an output that then increases the input further, which in turn further increases the output.

A negative feedback loop is one where the input creates an output that then lessens the input, which in turn decreases the output.

Shrinking middle class begets ignorance. Political forces capitalize on ignorance to misinform and manipulate the masses to elect people and enact policies that are not in their best interest. Doing so further erodes the middle class and decreases education, begetting further ignorance, misinformation, and political extremism. Positive feedback loop.

(Sorry if this was pedantic but it reminded me of a very specific learning moment I had with an old science teacher of mine about this exact distinction)

Update is coming. It's a known issue

Upload pictures of your kids. We pinky promise to delete them.

A fix for this was introduced in 0.18 and another one in 0.18.1. Version 0.18.1 is in release client 4 now, and lemmy.world just updated yesterday. Lemmy ml is still on 0.18.0 and doesn't have the 2nd fix yet. There are likely to be many causes to this, but consensus seems to be that federation has drastically improved since world upgraded to 0.18.1rc-4.

So, what to do? Just be patient. These are growing pains and known issues being tracked by devs and admins across instances. If Lemmy.ml and Lemmy.world wanted to defederate, they would do exactly that, instead of some silly shadow-defederation as you're suggesting.

If you want to follow the issue on GitHub, here is the link:

This makes me more confident that their next hardware release will be a standalone/PC hybrid VR headset to compete with the quest 2/3.

Is there an opportunity to just leave it vacant until the next election if it were to happen? Curious if he could potentially pull a reverse-Garland on them.

You can try and find an old steam controller maybe? I have one when they went on sale for dirt cheap before they discontinued manufacturing. The trackpads do have feedback like the deck but not not as good (it was the precursor after all)

This is profoundly stupid

I'm the lead mod over on !ps5@lemmy.ml and I am also a mod on !nintendo@lemmy.world

I use an RSS reader app/website plugged into all the various news sites for gaming on all consoles and PC that a browse a few times a day. I post a lot of the news I like to the communities I mod. If you're looking for an app, I recommend an RSS reader (there are a lot to choose from so I would dabble in a few and see what you like).

If you're looking for gaming centric communities you probably already know where to find them on here, but resetera has good discussions as well. If you want to look for other communities across lemmy instances you can use https://lemmyverse.net/communities (be sure to set your home instance with the "home" icon so all links open correctly).

So what do you like to do for fun? Or, What are some of your hobbies?

I find these much better than "so what do you do for work?", which is what I'm asked constantly. "Yes, person who I don't know, let me discuss work during my free time with you."

We already experience this on earth to a degree. The moon causes the tides and shore dwelling ocean creatures have to contend with surviving during the high and low tidal periods. Not really weather per se, but it's something.

I started the Lemmy.ml PS5 community

I have onboarded one of the mods from r/PS5 to the mod team, and received an endorsement from them as an Alternate Community. They haven't shut down though.

https://old.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/14a5dsy/_/

Note: my community source page should be https://lemmy.ml/c/ps5 but I'm currently afflicted with the remote moderator bug, so it is https://lemmy.ml/c/ps5@lemmy.ml until the next back end update rolls out. This unfortunately means we don't show up on browse.feddit.de or on lemmyverse.net for the time being.

It's the easiest way to seed content but isn't the best for building a community. Communities need to be more than RSS feeds. And that missing element is a human filter IMHO. Curated content.

Web archives extension for Firefox. Click it and select to open on archive.is. Alternatively, go to archive.is manually and paste your link. If it has been archived already it'll load right up. If it hasn't, then you submit it and it'll take a little bit but with be available shortly.

I haven't played the beta yet but I'm hoping that The Finals, which is made by ex-Dice devs, will be a good alternative to Battlefield and COD. I just miss destructible environments so badly. Bad Company 2 was so so good back in the day.

I considered this, but I do not have the resources to run my own instance. There are some gaming focused instances that are popping up, but for now the most established gaming communities are on lemmy.world. Plus, I dont know much about those instance admins to trust blindly diving in with them. I am very happy with the lemmy.world admins and think they are doing a great job. They also have a successful track record with their mastodon instance, sot I have confidence in them longer term.

I will keep this in mind for a future migration to something like PS6 (or if some other catastrophe comes along lol).

My guess is this will be a hybrid VR headset that can play games standalone a la the quest, as well as via PC via tether or wireless.

I don't really want a steam deck refresh if there is no performance improvement tbh.

That being said, 8"+ 1080p HDR screen with more nits would be nice. Maybe some dual stage/adaptive triggers.

I like Ars. For videos/reviews I personally like Skillup, ACG, and Eurogamer mostly, also digital foundry. Plus the official channels for the various consoles.

No Kit Kat? I guess a 100 Grand then

When it comes, I will consider it

Try ankiweb.net or the ankidroid android app to download flashcards for all sorts of things. Basically users make custom decks and you can download them for your own use or even make your own.

What the hell even is that?

To be fair, he is dead inside

I mean what Discords do you participate in? What Lemmy communities do you follow? What videos on YouTube do you like to watch?

You can reframe this and say, "I like to participate in online chat forums about the latest gaming news and technology (discord). I look for cool recipes and cooking techniques (Lemmy cooking community). And I love trying to find new funny comedians to listen to (YouTube)." I think if you narrow it down to the interests you enjoy, rather than "dicking around online" you'll find that you have interesting things to talk about.

Obviously those examples are my own, but I'm sure you use those platforms because they feed you certain content that you enjoy.

If this was PS5/PS4 streaming but with the ability to play PS3/2/1 games locally, it would kill for $200. And they wouldn't fracture the PS5 development base, which they are obviously afraid of doing.

Hell, even some modern indie games that don't use the full PS5 horsepower could have potentially make a PSPortal version for on-the-go gaming.
