What I love about them is that recently they had more people buying their password manager, than they planned for. This reduced the cost per user for them.

Instead of pocketing all of the profit gained from it, they sent out an email to all of their paid users, to let them know that they can now update their subscription for a discount.

Yup. Yesterday my mac turned my external display pink. The monitor was connected directly to the HDMI socket on the M1.

Tell me a more iconic duo than external devices and a panicking mac.

Li'l bro is prepping for the future real estate market

  • Gaming on a new GPU because it's faster
  • Gaming on an old GPU because it's VRAM is dying and sometimes the walls disappear

A lot of it is still on the phone manufacturers. If Fairphone can provide software support for their 2015 model 8 years later, then I have a hard time believing that a company with a 32 billion USD net income cannot provide more than 3 years of software updates. Looking at you, Samsung!

You will be a great asset to the company. Great great asset to the company

I'd probably get addicted to them if I didn't have ADHD and didn't constantly forget they even exist

Jokes aside, it is an invaluable medication (not a cure) for those that it helps.

Shameless promo for a paid service:

Most of Protonvpn addresses seem to not be in those lists usually. I haven't had any issues with anime sites, Netflix etc

That doesn't mean it will continue to be the case, it might just also be that I have gotten lucky so far

I mean, it is?

What I meant by "turned pink" is that the display showed only bright pink color and the mac display had a single corrupted line of pixels on it.

They do, if you give them enough room. And if you are born into an oil family.

The power density is about 0.01125m³ per watt. A high end smartphone (11w of peak power) with a body size similar to Galaxy s23 ultra, would be almost 10 meters thick.

On buying their bs

There are features, like swiping the url bar to switch tabs, that are missing on the pre installed Chrome, but the firefox has them. Chrome has nothing to offer over firefox, besides your data collection

All of the local stores here have a mobile scanner which you take when you enter the shop. Then you walk around, take the item you want, scan it and bag it. At the self checkout you put away the scanner, register your card, pay and walk away. This is way faster than regular checkout if you have more than 3 items.

SD cards are awesome, because a high quality 256GB SD card costs about $30, while a 256GB memory upgrade is at least $100 with no option to transfer when you get a new phone.

Cloud storage is pretty expensive and only as fast as your internet speed is, so for a lot of people that is not really that feasible. Especially considering that some have data caps as well.

3.5mm jack is just more comfortable to use for a lot of people, especially when they have multiple source devices and want to switch between them. I have BT headphones and it is way easier and more reliable to just replug the wire than to go through the BT disconnect reconnect dance.

The issue with dongles is that you'll have to find the correct aux dongle, some phones support analog passthrough, others require active dongles and so on

Too many of those floating around. Another gem I recently stumbled upon was power consumption of 4.7 watts per watt.

The issue is not the radioactivity, it's the power density. Per the article, this is ~24x smaller than an average phone battery, but can supply only 100uW.

I have a relatively conservative phone use, and on average, my phone uses 450mW. That means that you'd need 4500 of those batteries in your phone. But the battery would also need to cover the power usage peaks, which are multiple times higher than the average power consumption.

What's wrong with their comment? Straight to the point, no unnecessary info.

Keeping a simple nas alive, with automated backups from linux + windows based machines with proper authentication already sometimes feels like a second job. Hosting all of your own services is way more effort than people realise

Already set. I'm not that competitive player and my reflexes are worse than a sloth's. So I didn't even bother to buy a higher refresh rate monitor than 60.

When I set up my account, then during setup they asked if I wanted to get email notifications about their products and later it is also available and clearly marked in the account settings. I'd assume that if I turned those setting off, I'd stop getting those emails.

That being said, I have gotten 8 notifications from them over the last 3 months. I have all newsletters and promotional content enabled. This isn't much imo

That's.... not how it works.

Wtf is a smart scale?

The legendary trunkussy

And it most definitely isn't. GDPR requires explicit consent for collecting OR processing personal information. As per the European Commission, just taking the picture and extracting some metrics off of it already counts as processing personal information:

Everyone in Estonia has to have an ID card, which contains the RSA keys and x.509 certs for giving digital signatures.

It says gullible on the ceiling

¿Whaaat?

Yes. After a few centuries it will be harmless.

Where? I'd like to use it as if I cannot answer a call, I'd like it to offer a better replying option than the hardcoded ones now.

4 years on macbooks as a software dev. Haven't seen a more annoying OS for power users than OSX. The Apple software is constantly in the way, breaking things or crashing because you plugged in a non apple certified keyboard.

Yup. Also some kernel panics due to non compatible DP adapters. They are picky machines. Those issues were with the 2019 i7 mac pro. My current M1 has issues with certain usb-c docks

Global net income, yes. But it is 5% of the income from the EU. As much as I dislike Apple, the fine seems to be reasonable. I do want to see it bumped up if they keep on with their horseplay.

Inertial guidance sucks balls for any meaningful amount of time. Combining it with ground tracking gets it a lot better, if you have good time of flight sensors to measure the distance from the ground. But this also falls flat on its face when the ground is too uniform (grassland, wetland, snow etc).

How do you not forget that you even have the organiser?

FM on a phone is a banger. I used to have an old Nokia with a FM transmitter as well.

To be honest, the FM transmitter was more reliable and easier to set up on a random car with no aux than Bluetooth was.

But. But. All lives matter!
