Oh no, now we have to ban them all?? What a shame!

/s

I have heard that my grandmother's secret to perfectly sticking cheese on her pizzas was by adding 2.5 oz of Elmer's Non-toxic Glue to the sauce. Its mightily tasty on the tastebuds.

Yeah, even if we're not quite "there" yet, it feels like we're at least moving in that direction

Let's not lose sight of the important part:

That they're plotting it together

Yeah, I can't get enough of them. I literally have my colonists buy it all when capybara meat is in stock.

#JustRimworldVibes

Now if only they'd be ROM friendly.....

Not at all impressive, but to maximize interactions on a newborn thread:

It's probably my PS3, which I would have gotten Christmas 2008 (or maybe it was 2009?). I recently started sailining the seas, and the most convenient way to watch those videos is to burn them to a disk, and so the PS3 is really just a glorified DVD player (can't even be bothered to use it's blue ray functionality)

The dude is my wife's gay best friend for life.

In our early days of me dating my now wife, dude was my wife's roommate. The two of them moved to a larger apartment to better accommodate two people and pets. Guy almost immediately quit his job and stopped paying rent. He contributed nothing to the household (didn't cook or clean) while also feeding the cat enough treats to make it obese (something that is having follow on consequences years later). He also didn't eat home cooking, and racked up a massive debt by eating McDonalds almost daily.

His above actions left my now-wife with a drained bank account and in a horrible mental wellness condition. She needed to travel for work, and so as she left, he moved in with his "big farming daddy" on the other coast and I had hoped he was going to be out of our lives forever.

Apparently that relationship didn't work for him. So he moved back to his parent's place where he struggled to keep a job. After ~2 years of no job or education/training, he was eventually kicked out of his parent's place.

And so right as my wife and I finally have a stable working situation with our careers that we could make work for the next 25-ish year (read as: to a slightly early retirement), ol' boy shows up on our doorstep with <24 hours notice saying he needs a place to stay while he "attends college"......in one of the most expensive areas to live in the U.S......"just out of coincidence"

He is the same age as I am, and I'm having to take my ass who worked through a STEM college degree, a military enlistment, and YEARS of network building to build a stable life for me and my wife and put it on hold for him. We had hopes of an early retirement that are being postponed to ensure this leech has money for gas and food to eat in campus.

So yeah, I hate that bastard. But he's my wife's friend and is reasonably charismatic, so no one "gets what my beef with him is".

This thread really has brought out some real crazies.

But you sir are, in fact, a demon among men.

I worry even Firefox is losing its principles on the matter.

Talking to my neighbors, they're dealing with a ~30% YoY rent hike.

Property is managed by RealPage (or some flavor of subsidiary/partner company).

I really hope that company gets SUNK after the anti-trust lawsuit they're dealing with (it's a really slow moving one, and I haven't heard a substantial update since Summer 2023).

So which brand is it?

I think their power grid keeps them from being a super power

By the power granted to me by no one in particular:

I'll allow it.

And there was much rejoicing

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the microblog format, but I'm pretty sure everyone here is going to agree that Mastodon is the superior Twitter replacement.

I bet rent is still above the national average.

Obligatory Rimworld shout out.

I've dumped more hours into this game than the rest of my game library combined.

Edit: typo

Imma need the stats on this so I can throw it in someone's face later.

Are slaughter houses secretive?

I was raised in an agriculture focused community and did the whole FFA thing in highschool. I've since moved to another state and am now living the life of a city slicker, so maybe I've just become out of touch, but back then none of the "how the sausage is made" stuff was hidden from us. Hell we had a whole field trip to tour a pair of meat processing plants (one for poultry, one for beef).

Have things changed over the last 5-10 years? Is my experience just an outlier?

I've wasted too many hours on Shatter Pixel Dungeon.

You can get the source for OG Pixel Dungeon off GitHub, but there's a maintened version on the F-Droid store (Shatter Pixel Dungeon). There's some other free versions floating around too, not sure if they're on the F-Droid store too, but I know they're on the play store.

"totalitarian" is a really weird way to spell "independent peace loving libertarian state"

Are you sure C++ isn't just C+, plus it's free?

25 per year (call it one every two weeks?) really doesn't seem that high, esp with their wording of "non-stop executions".

Guess that really speaks to how messed up these execution methods are.

As I type this, I can't help but wonder how the mass executions during the French Revolution affected people's psyche (seems like a well built guillotine would be able to go through closer to 25 executions per day). Anyone have info on that?

National Security?

Bro, you're thinking too small - this affects the security of all mankind on Earth. With falling yields from Ukraine and other conflict growing around the world, I except agricultural output to dip DRASTICALLY in the coming years. This means it will more than likely fall to the Deer dominated production area to take up the slack and feed humanity.

I wish US regulators would see the importance of agriculture and would stop letting multi-billion dollar companies bully the actual producers of our food chain.

I appreciate that they're trying to do something here, but this doesn't feel like it's aimed at stopping actually dangerous people. This feels like it's aimed at beating on people who were already willing to deal with Maryland's already more-strict-than-usual gun laws.

But I guess we'll see how this pans out in a few years.

I hope they look to the failure of Robinhood and wish things went that well for them.

I'm a cheap bastard.

Free is free

Obligatory Shattered Pixel Dungeon recommendation.

You can get it on the F-Droid store, but there's also a bunch of other versions (some easier some harder) in the main google store.

U.S. born and raised. I've traveled a moderate amount and have literally never heard this (most of time spent in Mid-Atlantic, Gulf Coast, and Southwest)

Yeah, and who could vote against being a Patriot? Man, that Patriot act sure did wonders.

This is more feel than empirical data, but Netflix feels like they've gotten markedly better over the last 2-3 months.

I get the subscription as part of a membership on some other things, but would not have paid for the service the way it's gone over the last ~2 years. That said after seeing the recent improvements, if my access to Netflix was cut off tomorrow, I'd probably shell out for the lowest non-ad tier of service.

However, mad respect for the people out there keeping the P2P/torrenting communities alive.

Edit: spelling errors

I expect you're not wrong.

But in my mind, the real goal is to get people used to public transportation being an actually viable option before they get an over priced truck. Get them used to living without a car bill and then watch them never get a car because of how much it'd cost in car bills, ya know?

It's actually Notepad+, plus it's free

Good to know, thanks for the feedback!

How does this contrast with AntennaPod?

Yo, yeah, what's up with the acorns?

I guess it's being associated with the sounds of a gun shot?

Make it and then sell it to my wife to give to me for a gag gift next Christmas.

Her budget for such a thing would probably be ~$100 if you need a target price point.

Good to know!

So other commenters have opinions that I think are rational, but the part that I think is key that they're missing: Tenant Unions.

I have some (in my opinion) tyrannical yet lazy land lords/property managers at my current apt, and have attempted to form a tenant union. Apparently no one agrees with my level of disgust at our treatment, so I've kind of wiffed at the effort.

Which is to say that it takes real work, but it can be done and there are resources for you, but that's the first step: don't go alone.
