“Zuck: Yeah so if you ever need info about anyone at Harvard

Zuck: Just ask.

Zuck: I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SNS

[Redacted Friend's Name]: What? How'd you manage that one?

Zuck: People just submitted it.

Zuck: I don't know why.

Zuck: They "trust me"

Zuck: Dumb fucks.“

There’s men in the 60s that are that way and men who aren’t. I’ve met plenty of misogynistic zoomers too but don’t classify the entire generation that way.

We don’t know who this person voted for. They could be totally against Desantis and never voted for him like millions of other people did as well. I certainly didn’t vote for the premiere of my province who is corrupt and screwing us all over constantly.

This really isn’t all that different from old school forums and the way they were run. Have people forgotten what those were like? That’s one of the biggest reasons I like the direction of Lemmy to begin with. The owner of the site can’t assume those risks, they’re not a corporation.

I could actually seeing that being the reason he’s doing this. Nothing a narcissist hates more than people ignoring them.

I don’t know what people are expecting anymore, phones are a mature market. Short of something like foldables (which don’t seem to be catching on) they’re going to be iterative updates. Look at TVs and computers. Years of big advancements and then they’re iterative.

Also the NY Post is an absolutely terrible publication to link to.

He should be charged with treason or something similar for doing this during wartime to a US ally. Enough of this narcissistic POS.

They said religious zealots already…

“Don’t Look Up” and all that…

Can't see any company, let alone something family friendly being remotely okay with any of this. Who wants to pay to be right next to Nazi content besides maybe MyPillow?

That’s the issue with not defederating from some truly vile, reprehensible instances. It allows their users and content to potentially flood yours which is why there should be exceptions.

This woman deserves to be indicted for her participation in Jan 6.

Well this is just fucked up. I don’t know what else to say.

Just brought back memories of Ally McBeal.

This is truly dystopian, like something you’d see in Black Mirror.

I actually prefer that instances can do this, the whole point is to find one you more closely align with like old school forums. The ones they’ve done this to are either mass brigading, full of Nazis or sharing CSAM. They have every right to protect their users from that kind of stuff or make those decisions when they’re individuals paying to run an instance.

Until there’s a tool I can use to fully block instances myself (which I don’t see available) this is the way it’s run. Maybe the fediverse just isn’t for you? As someone who grew up using old school forums this is completely fine and expected. If I am running a website (or store) I have every right to manage it the way I see fit.

They just seem really upset that the scam/grift/MLM didn't work out in their favour and they're the ones taking the loss.

Too many of them are beholden to Russia and its interests and have been for some time. Not only that, but also just doing the opposite of whatever Democrats support which isn’t constructive at all.

Gaetz is easily one of the most detestable and dislikable representatives and that’s saying something considering who else his colleagues are.

Should be illegal. Is it not due to GDPR in Europe at least?

If that comment is truly the reason the person was banned that’s unacceptable and makes me wonder about the viability of this as a platform. Even if you move instances you need to create a brand new account with username, history etc it’s not the easiest transition.

Pits were literally bred to be aggressive and are innately so. No one questions the purpose of a Labrador retriever or a greyhound. People aren’t abusing pit bulls to turn them mean, not by a long shot. They’ll easily turn on loving owners for no reason at all.

That’s a good amount but I’m curious what the longterm retention will be like. Speaking for myself I’m here to stay, and am hopeful that with time some of the more niche communities come into existence and thrive.

I can see the nuance in an argument that an online community, unmoderated, could be using an algorithm to group these violent people together and amplifying their views. The same can't really be said for most other platforms. Writing threats of violence should still be taken seriously over the internet, especially if it was later acted upon. I don't disagree with you that there's a lot of bat shit crazy out there though.

It’s the incessant want and need for more, more more. If they made $2 billion in profit last year it needs to be $3 billion this year, it can’t just be a continued $2 billion (which is still an amazing amount of profit). It’s just a never ending scheme of incurable human greed.

Yes but I’d classify it as a different category more akin to old school forums. It’s less a place to post photos of yourself and more one to discuss and read about stuff you enjoy (or memes). I just want a place personally to discuss movies, video games, technology etc

I was harassed by them and insulted for not agreeing with them (mistakenly commented in one of their instances posts) and elsewhere and they kept saying certain people deserve to die (which I’d classify as hate speech).

When there’s so many that can bombard or overwhelm the rest of the discussion they should stick to their own echo chamber. I don’t see the same problem you do with defederating from them and am more likely to use the site more without their presence.

Edit: We also don’t know what the mods or admins are seeing and removing from them. I couldn’t even have a conversation without being overwhelmed and shouted out/insulted

Their responses and comments have legitimately prevented me from coming here. Maybe I’ll actually visit and comment again with them defederated, I was so sick of their bullshit and posts clogging my feed.

Because they don’t care and never cared. They’re entirely disingenuous and trying to call them out on hypocrisy as if it matters is a losing game.

Those two things have absolutely nothing to do with each other, quite a reach.

This is definitely a thing. The amount of people claiming to have ADHD now is out of control when in reality they can’t not pick up their phone for a dopamine hit every five seconds. This is a lot different than books and media of the past.

There’s almost never a time I’m in public anymore without people glued to their phones playing Tik Toks on speaker and acting like no one exists, or using their phones in a movie theatre etc etc. it’s a problem. Not to mention the other anti-social behavioural aspects I’m seeing young kids exhibit.

COVID solidified that for me. The amount of effort and collective sacrifice tackling climate change will take is tenfold what that ever was. I don’t see it happening.

There’s questioning the narrative and then there’s just spewing misinformation and conspiracy theories. Rogan usually does the latter.

She needs to retire already and they really need age limits for congresspeople. She has been involved in politics since JFK was President, time to move on.

Seems too little, too late. I’ll never forget the showcasing of “Milo” for Kinect which seems almost undoable even today.

That doesn’t mean making decisions that can ultimately hurt the business or their partners though. You can be greedy while not alienating the developers who drive the company’s profits. Decisions like these could make them lose millions or even go out of business.

You know that’s a real word that applies to things right? If someone is saying the earth is actually flat and making up things to prove it, that’s misinformation.

I’m not sure why this would ever come up in a job interview, it’s not your employer’s business.

The level of sexism and condescension in this comment is embarrassing.

There are actually studies already showing this, it’s because they grew up on iPads and apps and everything “just working” or dumbed down. I will look for a source but your anecdote lines up.
