"Lemmy is the New Reddit"

Hip Hip, Hooray! ๐Ÿ˜

EndeavourOS is an Arch based distro only a lot easier to use...pretty happy with it. I have it down to that or Debian.

ChatGPT: sudo rm -rf / ๐Ÿ˜

I have no official measurements but when I stop in occasionally, I notice it's much more responsive than it used to be :)

I never heard of spez until this debacle...now that I have a face to go with all the scummy corporate behavior, I'm absolutely out of there...I see his face every time I go there now and it skeeves me out :P

That's the camel's nose in the tent, eventually you wind up with an Edward Snowden type situation:

They can do their own in house testing and let that be good enough. As you say though, I don't use RHEL derivatives since they killed Centos.

Was there meant to be a linky?

tldr is a pretty good commandline utility: https://tldr.sh

"Eventually, everything becomes a crab"

Carcinization is an example of a phenomenon called convergent evolution, which is when different groups independently evolve the same traits. It's the same reason both bats and birds have wings. But intriguingly, the crab-like body plan has emerged many times among very closely related animals.

It seems to apply to social networks as well ๐Ÿ˜€

Has that new car smell.

Teaching new users how to find, subscribe and be able to post to communities that aren't on their own instances is the biggest hurdle in the Fediverse I've come across so far. To find this community for example, all they have to do is put "!reddit@lemmy.world" in the search box while logged in on their instance and they'll find it and be able to subscribe. Also getting the idea across that they don't have to have an account on the instance where their favorite community is in order to subscribe and post there.

Aside from that, maybe a list of communities in the Fediverse that closely match popular subs on Reddit eg: /r/all, /r/worldnews, /r/videogames, etc.

"Youโ€™re in a desert walking along in the sand when all of the sudden you look down, and you see a tortoise, itโ€™s crawling toward you. You reach down, you flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it canโ€™t, not without your help. But youโ€™re not helping. Why is that?"

but it seems like the developers tried to make it as different as possible just for the sake of being different.

They might actually be trying to avoid getting sued by Adobe.

I still have all my messages, including the original 'Welcome to Reddit' message from 7 years ago:

I agree with OP...would like to be able to do that here on Lemmy as well...if you want to not see a post here, you have to block the user altogether.

Edit: Just tested it OP, after you refresh it goes away...it's just a chance to Undo before it disappears entirely. It's not a terrible change :)

I love it! Thanks for posting :)

It's basically Usenet with nicer formatting :)

This is a better solution in my view ๐Ÿ‘

I think this time the problem isn't going to go away...they got a pass after Centos but they're showing a pattern of behavior now.

Telegram is just lousy with crap posts and comments now as well.

No worries, I'm new here myself :)

I posted quite a bit on /r/conspiracy on the pandemic ...after that I got banned from posting on /r/vaccinelonghaulers and all the city and country subs eg: /r/korea. Still have my account and I can still post on places I'm not banned.

...just subbed to banhammered, I'll post it there too.

Midnight Commander

I think OP has a point...silence and no traffic would be a better weapon against Spez...he already knows we hate him.

If you knew your way around the old Dos Edit text editor, Tilde will make you happy: https://github.com/gphalkes/tilde

Some good tips on this thread, saved for later.

This is the Way.

You can get some pretty decent refurbished laptops on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=refurbished+laptops&crid=1LC43WY0A2EH6&sprefix=refurbished+laptops%2Caps%2C94&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

...you can even return them if you don't like it.

I got banned from every country and city subreddit for commenting on /r/conspiracy.

Maybe it was a paid hit piece by Microsoft or Apple.

Not gonna work for me...I never installed any enhancement tools and I was using the default blinding white 'new' Reddit web version...at least you're thinking in the right direction ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ˜

If you use a 3rd party app to access it, it's probably cut off now, the web version still works okay...I haven't tried Reddit's own app...I usually use a web browser anyway.
