Whenever one of my closest friends (early 30s) needs help it's like helping my grandparents.

Depends where you live but unsolicited goods acts will often let you keep stuff in this way.

His motor mouth doesn't stop running but he's hardly a picture of health and he's getting on in years.

I think it depends on the company, I work at a software company and you'll regularly see the big boss playing pool with staff at random times of the day. A bit of non work time during the work day can help the brain come up with solutions to problems.

From the outside the whole thing seemed to be an absolute circus act. People getting increasingly polarised, constant (pretty much daily) news about something fucking stupid he's either said, done or something disgusting one of his cronies had been involved in.

Amusing? No. Dismay is more I'd say. It's reverberated across the pond here and our politicians have been doing very similar stuff and getting away with it.
