This makes me wonder what would shake the media out of their business-as-usual attitude. The United States government has been pissing and moaning about Iran my entire life. They’ve been “two years away from the bomb” for literally forty years now.
I’m not saying that the United States wouldn’t invade Iran—they are certainly stupid enough—but this saber rattling is nothing new. Iran happens to be a particularly convenient bogeyman for the powers that be to propagandize their citizenry.
The US media is using this sort of language to manufacture consent for yet another war in the middle east. Is this group the de facto government of Yemen? No, they’re just “Houthi rebels”, so we’re doing Yemenis a favor by getting rid of them. Is it a reasonable military tactic to fire on the warship of a hostile foreign power that’s been bombing the shit out of you? No, it’s an “escalation”! How dare these rebels strike first, we didn’t do anything to them!

It’s just breathtaking how overtly we’re being propagandized with the same old lines. “It’s outside agitators”, “the protests have turned violent”, “the protestors don’t even know what they’re protesting”. They trot out these tired memes over and over, expecting people to lap it up, stay docile, and vote for them in November. It’s all so damn predictable.
But I don’t think it’s going to work this time. Is it just me, or does it feel more ominous than 2016 or even 2020? It’s like we’re being led off a cliff. And when we go over, the talking heads on TV and Very Smart People will blame the electorate for not going to the polls to pick the right guy. Instead of the “leaders” who thought they could carry on sitting in their big chairs and ignoring the concerns of their constituents, because hey, we’ve got them by the balls—who else are they gonna vote for?
