All in all, I would like to have a bit less circlejerk and start having more diverse content.

Don’t get me wrong, all the beans and old memes is helping a lot with keeping the platform alive and with constant activity, but I think at some point we need to start posting more stuff and make Lemmy more friendly and attractive to newcomers.

That’s what you get from being the most popular instance I guess.

To be fair though, sincerity without empathy is just assholeness. There are way to many people justifying their asshole behaviors with “being sincere”.

Also about the younger generation being too soft, which I believe ties with your first pint.

Although we have surely become more comfortable with cameras around us more often, if I remember correctly what freaked people out was that there wasn’t a visible indicator when Google Glass was recording.

Had Google added a tiny red LED next to the camera, it would’ve been different.

I actually think Zuck does want to kick Musk's ass. At the same time I think Mark is going with it just to call Elon's bluff.

Ever since getting into arguments with strangers online stopped being fun for me, I try to be extremely polite to people when I’m asking a probably confrontational question.

On the internet, a good amount of time people asking questions in comments sections are often just trying to show others how much they know about something in the most passive aggressively way possible, so it better to always be extra clear that you’re trying to engage on a healthy discussion.

I mean their site is twitter[.]com

Hopefully long enough for casual users to start looking for alternatives.

I have a friend that’s always late, like literally always. I tried to put myself in his shoes because he’s got 2 small kids and that should be extremely exhausting, but I don’t think he even tries anymore.

I believe it’s a matter of being in the same platform as controversial content.

In the end they’re paying Twitter to display their ads, and if Twitter allows questionable content to be in their platform, the companies are indirectly supporting it.

Rather than excellent timing, I would bet that Meta saw the writing on the wall the moment Twitter started doing cuestionable things under Elon. I don’t think they would’ve launched Threads to compete against pre-Elon Twitter.

Also, albeit small in overall users, there’s been a constant exodus of users ever since Elon took over, so they are trying to capitalize on that.

No social network dies over night, but with Threads racing to become the mainstream text-based social media, Twitter will be slowly becoming irrelevant, until it dies.

Edit: Grammar

Wow! It really does feel very similar to Apollo. It will undoubtedly make the transition easier.

Thanks!

Given that you’re trying to “get out of twitter” as you said, and that you’re posting this on c/fediverse, I believe a more apt suggestion would be to try out Mastodon, which is part of the fediverse, unlike Bluesky.

I think the thing is that, in order to have a successful and reliable Tile network, you need as much people as possible to install the Tile app so their phones can communicate with their trackers.

Whereas with Find My, you have everybody’s Apple devices being part of the network without them doing anything, their devices just do it, without intervention from other users. That’s a massive advantage for Apple’s offering.

On similar note, if Google comes up with something similar where they can leverage all of the Android devices out there, it’d be an enormous network.

If I remember correctly, only a third of the whole payment was financed with Tesla shares as collateral.

I use Ivory for browsing Mastodon, and I’d bet that the app is more polished than any other first-party social media app.

The problem with Mastodon (and Lemmy to some extent) is that the onboarding process is not as straightforward, thus causing some friction for the less tech-savvy users.

it’s the camera view of your face from the inside.

When you’re setting up the device, you scan your face to create a “Persona” which is a digital representation of your face, this is what’s shown in the outside of the thing.

The cameras are used to track your eyes and have the “Persona”’s eyes move mimicking yours.

Loved that the community kept the name.

They’re the de-facto option in most of the industries they have products for, if you decide not to use any of their products, you’re alienating yourself from your peers.

I would say Mlem is also inspired by Apollo, so I would recommended it as well; I keep jumping back and forth between Memmy, Mlem and wefwef.

Tried Thunder and Liftoff!, but they feel very Material Design-y to me, so using them on iOS feels off. Which is a shame because both are pretty fast.

Lemmios is also promising, but it’s still on early development so it’s a bit rough around the edges.

What if I want to block the memes and keep the porn though?

Having the Instagram branding would bring more celebrities and such, which will undoubtedly attract more people to the fediverse.

Once they’re in and are more familiar with the whole thing, moving them to Mastodon shouldn’t be that hard.

WhatsApp also uses E2EE, wouldn’t also be targeted under this same legislation?

Meta pulling WhatsApp out of the UK would affect way more people.

I’ve seen people on Mastodon referring to the company as The Company Previously Known as Twitter.

I can see how having communities with the same name across different servers can be confusing for some people though.

More often than not you need to be very specific and have some knowledge on the stuff you ask it.

However, you can guide it to give you exactly what you want. I feel like knowing how to interact with GPT it’s becoming similar as being good at googling stuff.

They’re back up. I just checked, there was a vote and they allow videos again.

Do you know if there are usage stats posted somewhere? I would like to see how much people joins in the upcoming weeks.

One thing is to exaggerate the range in your advertisement material, which every auto manufacture does—especially since you need to meet veeery specific criteria to get the advertised mpg.

Another though is to rig your software to show misleading range to the people actually driving the fucking car, that’s either stupid or very shady.

r/videos is back up though. The protest ended up being for nothing.

There’s a case to be made about “buying” digital media and being able to keep the file in your local storage, that way it wouldn’t cost anything to the publisher when you play the content.

I understand the piracy implications, but most of the content is pirated anyway regardless of DRM, so the only ones affected are those who actually pay for content.

To be fair, Elon doesn’t all have that money in cash. Also, like half of the Twitter buyout was made possible with a loan where he used his a Tesla stocks for like half of the operations as collateral.

Although I agree that he’s far from being broke, this can become a pretty bad financial decision to Elon.

What about my phone’s display, does that count as well?

If the whole fediverse thing gets to the mainstream, more people can start looking at ways to be less corporate-dependent in their digital lives, and maaaybe start considering Linux as their main OS.

I know it’s a bit of a stretch, but hey! people can dream I guess.

He also waived his right to do due diligence, which fucked him when he was trying to avoid proceeding with the buyout claiming Twitter has inflated number of users.

Was it just me or it had been becoming rarer to run into one of shittymorphs’ comments lately?

Mexico:

Quesadillas don’t have cheese by default in Mexico City, and everyone else outside of it make fun of them because of it.

Ivory from the Tweetbot devs, although is not purely Apple-y, it feels like it belongs in the platform while also adding something of their own.

Tbf, I don’t recall r/Place ever working on 3rd-party clients.
