That's an easy one - no. You can look back to various periods during middle ages Europe for examples. An even stronger one would be China from about 400 CE-800 CE

Of course, those weren't capitalist economies - but they were economies. Capitalism's instability is what requires constant growth to maintain. The better (and harder) questions would be what to transition to that avoids the issues of feudalism and how to transition with a minimum of societal upheaval (violence and death).

It's the new 2/3 compromise.

Not necessarily. There is a foreign earned income exclusion, so if you pay income taxes on it in the country where you're living you don't pay taxes to the US.

I never really paid attention to the level gain ratio. I'd look here for that kind of question.

No bother!

For customization, you want a MUD client rather than a standard telnet client. I used zMUD back in the day, but FLOSS was harder to come by back then. These days, I'd go with mudlet.

Not everyone that disagrees with a law is in a position to immediately change it.

$126,500 per person, plus another $20,240 in housing expenses. Plus your $13,850 standard deduction (though if you're making that much you're probably itemizing for more). So $160,590 for an individual or $321,180 for married filing jointly. That's assuming no kids and no other deductions or credits - which is pretty unlikely at that income level.

$160,590 is the 93rd percentile for US income distribution. So yeah, if you (AND your partner, if any) are both in the top 7% income bracket, bad at tax preparation, and don't hire an accountant, you might still pay tax on the income over that amount. Of course, making that much while keeping the kind of ethics that let you care about anyone other than yourself is a nontrivial endeavor.

Don't forget that your foreign employer won't be reporting to the IRS. So if your protest extends to not voluntarily reporting that excess income ...

The cost-of living crisis is so bleak that some Gen Zers genuinely fear becoming are homeless

Because it's a shit job with minimal pay, physically demanding, and the hours are usually cut in the off-season.

That would be silly when they have last year's sales numbers to go off of.

Nah. Replacing the kernel is probably planned for the next point release - it'll just be GNU/systemd

(Assuming US jurisdiction) Because you don't want to be the first test case under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act where the prosecutor argues that circumventing restrictions on a company's AI assistant constitutes

ntentionally ... Exceed[ing] authorized access, and thereby ... obtain[ing] information from any protected computer

Granted, the odds are low YOU will be the test case, but that case is coming.

That may make the teeth-kicking less satisfying. It doesn't make it any less necessary.

No. He's been real clear about that. Neither will Trump.

Short of armed insurrection, US subjects have no control on this one. The ones that are arming for insurrection also support the genocide. FML

I think there's an exception to be made in your argument for abandonware. There are classic arcade games that wouldn,'t exist any more but are widely available due to MAME support.

Assuming this is USA, the phrase you're looking for is "Am I being detained, or am I free to go?"

For a more detailed answer, this is what the ACLU has to say.

Because if you pay the $200k you get it back when the case is over. The $20k is gone forever.

That's assuming the judge doesn't decide you've violated the bond conditions forfeit the bond. If that happens, the bondsman's going to go after you for the full $200k in addition to what you paid though, and you still wind up $20k poorer than if you put up the full amount in the first place.

What probably happened is that he plans to use his usual delaying tactics and run the case out for several years, so his accountants decided they could earn at least 11% on the remaining $180k by the time the case is up, making it cheaper to pay the $20k up front.

Your point 1 seems to forget something important: kids are often cruel, and bullying is frequently the point. So long term consequences for their classmates can be an incentive more than a deterrent.

Better hope the goon hasn't heard of IPv6 either, or you're toast

Even more extreme, actually. I knew one person who was actually, honestly, voluntarily homeless. For years. Living on the street, no car. No obvious mental health issues, had family who would have been happy to take him in, strong social network, active in the community. Didn't want to be tied to all of the things ownership of stuff brings, and was willing to make the many and extreme sacrifices that entails.

To be clear, this is not the normal homelessness experience. I've known too many homeless people, and the right-wing conspiracy theories of middle to upper class panhandlers on every corner are utter nonsense. Ideologically motivated self justifying cruelty inspiring bullshit. Even when homeless people I have known said it was by choice, I usually knew enough about their situation to recognize it as a face saving salve to their pride (a hard thing to come by in the lower rungs of society, and very precious). But there was that one.

The third party (probably the Greens). Or not vote at all when they otherwise would have - that still means a lost vote for Biden. Young voters tend to be far less willing to accept the compromises imposed by first past the post voting systems.

The threat to Democrats is real.

Probably, but unsurprisingly the far-right influencer went to a right-wing mouthpiece media outlet to tell her story. OP probably doesn't want to drive traffic and advertising revenue to them.

Doubt that assumption was made. He would be getting off on the TV series.

Believe it or not, no. The sales tax holidays are actually targeted on certain categories rather than across the board. Sales taxes (including Florida's) are regressive, but in this case the tourism situation actually makes it slightly less regressive.

So many tourism dollars flow through that with a 6% sales tax they get by with no income tax at all. Groceries are exempt from the sales tax, as are rentals of 6 months or longer - two major expense categories for lower incomes.

Unsurprisingly, the sales tax holiday dates come outside the November-April tourist season - with the exception of one of the back-to-school weeks.

Nope. Gerrymandering and senate bias toward less populous states just make it look that way.

Definitely scrambled. If you freeze as-is, the yolks will gel and remain that way when thawed.

Your other option is water glassing rather than freezing, but that only works with fresh, unwashed egs (not store bought). Also be aware most recipes you will find on the internet are wrong! Proper waterglassing should use Sodium Silicate, not lime lye (Sodium Hydroxide).

Edit: Corrected - see below. Also, be aware that "lye" in older recipes can refer to any basic (as opposed to acidic) solution, and was more commonly potassium hydroxide leached from wood ash rather than sodium hydroxide.

There is some hyperbole - that's an "and" not an "or". So the law wouldn't define anyone of Hispanic descent as a terrorist, just like it doesn't define non-hispanic convicted gang members as terrorists.

Still completely fucked up and racist, but the article title is slight hyperbole. And the politician is a total shitbag.

Mean people suck. Realizing that the problem was them and not you, reaching out to a friendly community for support - you handled it like a champ!Happpy birthday, and bask in the glow of knowing love and support are there for the asking!

This. The first session with any therapist is mostly giving background, checking fit, and building trust. An app that gives you a different random therapist every time means only superficial help based on a bunch of assumptions of average needs that won't all fit - and no chance to correct those assumptions.

At least in the US, most therapists offer televisits since the pandemic. Your best bets are to either search your insurance's provider list or to search your location here and then filter by "Online" and your insurance carrier

All the core features, eh? Try your door handle when the battery's dead then say that again with a straight face.

Look for bulbs with metal fins where the white plastic is in your image. They're there as a heat sink so the heat disperses into the air rather than building up inside.

Good news - you still can!

Seriously, open a new tab on your browser NOW and jump on eBay or whatever and buy it. Even if you aren't surprised by how much fun it still is (which you probably will be), you'll be able to stop regretting NOT having it. No downside!
