What ever happened to parental responsibility?

I appreciate your assumption that I have friends. I am enjoying Lemmy though.

And some people want to federate with them. oof

What happened to parental responsibility?

I’m 100% out once that happens. Well technically I pretty much am currently. I may look at r/all for a couple minutes then head over here for a good portion of time.

What happened to parental responsibility?

Oh a relic of a simpler time. Those were some good times I must admit.

It's like when a small town gets a new restaurant. Everyone in the town is excited and they all decide to try it out. Once they are there though they find out the food is ass and the owner is a narcissist douche canoe.

They can kiss my ass. Only Meta product I use is messenger and that’s only because my wife insists on using it.

We need to bring r/banpitbulls to Lemmy.

This is what I got after 5 minutes.

That is untrue. The FBI tried to get Apple to decrypt a shooter's iPhone in Florida a few years back and they wouldn't budge.

Yeah that social dilemma was a big eye opener. I stopped using Facebook after watching it. I would have deleted my account but my wife insists on using messenger for some odd reason.

I really appreciate this explanation. I was a bit worried about corporations (Meta) taking over myself and now I know it wouldn’t be a problem. I’ve been online since the mid 90s but never learned the ins and outs of how it all works especially when it comes to FOSS.

I bet your DNA profile is part of the "other data". /s

I am 45 and you can say a tech enthusiast. I've never worked in tech but I have always wanted to but never took that chance. I feel like I'm too old to start now.

I got the albino squirrel preservation society. It doesn’t get more random than that. I checked out a couple more and it makes miss the old web of the 90s.

BBS were so much fun back then. We had a local one in South Florida where we would all get on and we would have meet ups on weekends so we could talk in person and hang out. I used to log on with a 2400 baud modem which I upgraded to a 14k myself. It felt so fast at the time. I also would get on the telnet talkers and Irc to meet folks. I was a shy awkward teenager back then so meeting people on those services was great.

Back when AOL started getting popular my friends and I would hoard those installation disks so we could make new accounts when we needed to. Back then they would actually charge per hour to be online. We would use credit card generator programs to get online for free until they caught us and we had to make new accounts. Once AOL went unlimited it was a game changer. The bad part was it was hard getting on due to everyone jumping on.

There's an old saying in Tennessee. I know it's in Texas. Probably in Tennessee that says, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me, you can't get fooled again.

You could always start a banpitbulls community here if you have the time. I would join.

I wonder if all the Geocities sites are still up. I tried searching for the one I made when I was about 16. I called it Eric’s World. Cringe I know but still would be neat to see it at 45.

I would rather it be Mastodon. I tried threads and it was a bunch of influencers prostituting themselves for follows and likes.

I work at home in the health field and the only browser they have us use for everything is chrome. It makes me laugh honestly.

I say they can just make a Threads account for when they want to interact with those friends. It isn't that hard. I use different services to check my bank balance or to pay my electric bill.

Here’s a list of instances who have vowed not to federate with them if it happens.

Firefox on Android using Ublock Origin is as good as it can get.

I'm liking the UI on their desktop site.. I'm tempted to jump.

They are adorable. If it was up to me I’d name one of them Mr. Business.

I just started using it and it's great. Partnered with Ublock Origin it's a decent experience with no bloat.

I remember when Heaven’s Gate was first on the news. I went online and looked at their site. You have to give them credit for maintaining it for all these years.

In the US there is a federal program that does the same.

TIL that Google owned YouTube. How did I not know this? I honestly thought that they were their own entity still after all these years. God I feel dumb.

Out of curiosity I tried it for a few minutes yesterday. All I saw was a bunch of influencers and low level memes. I had duck duck go tracker blocker on just to see how bad they are and it's worse than I could ever imagine. It showed 686 tracker attempts from 35 different companies and I was only on for about 10 minutes.

I'm just hoping it's a massive failure just like the metaverse. I wish no success for the Zuck fuck in any of his endeavors.

Great shot! It'll look great on my desktop.. Thanks!

IRC was a lot of fun back in the day. The other day I jumped on undernet using a web portal. Oh yeah there were people there but it was quiet as could be. I jumped around a couple channels like my old hangout #Florida and nothing. I may try again another day.

It was such an exciting time. Being an awkward teen back then the internet was a great place for me to socialize and meet new people. There was nothing better than seeing my hit counter number go up showing that people were visiting the website I made.

That video was nuts. I hope they win that case. It's ridiculous.
