It was very likely a designers decision. It forces the use the use case they wanted; wireless mice should be used wirelessly. I would bet they fought marketing and management to get this on the final product.

Marketing would want the mouse they can advertise as being useable with and wireless. Female ports are easier to mount and manufacture with they have depth to set the socket. So a plug on the front is much cheaper and easier to manufacture.

The fact the charging cable doesn’t get used in motion means it will last longer and you wouldn’t have people useing fraying cables on the front of their mouse.

More than you think. They are also actively seeking ways to make that leverage effect more people.

They are defining web standards. They control chrome and chromium. So all of the alternative browsers that aren't safari and Firefox are using Google's web engine. Even Firefox and safari are beholden to Google as they fund both these web browsers through their default search deals.

Google after many failed messaging apps has taken on RCS messaging. They provide most of the supporting infrastructure through their Jibe servers. They don't allow anyone but themselves and Samsung to make an RCS app on android. They also had a campaign to pressure apple to use RCS. It's likely apple's RCS will be following Google's Jibe service closely, as they've already said their will work with Google on this. Google successfully got most RCS messages going through their servers, with apple on board with RCS itll see most SMS messages defaulting to RCS and most of those going through Google.

They also have deep hooks into education market with their OneDrive/Google docs products and Chromebooks.

Most privacy focused android alternatives recommend Google hardware.

They did mention the options with different in some locations.

It won't generate random numbers. It'll generate random numbers from its training data.

If it's asked to generate passwords I wouldn't be surprised if it generated lists of leaked passwords available online.

These models are created from masses of data scraped from the internet. Most of which is unreviewed and unverified. They really don't want to review and verify it because it's expensive and much of their data is illegal.

Some may argue the internet has allowed them to coordinate. Providing each other with new and more novel ideas.

Social media makes it easier for the perpetrators, to target vulnerable people.

It also reduces opportunities for family/teachers/community to intervene. If someone saw you talking with suspicious characters, they are more likely to bring that up with parents. Social media can isolate all interactions to be between the victim and groomer.

Social media platforms also give the perpetrators anonymity. A groomer can pose as someone else that gives them access to more victims. They can also simultaneously target more victims at once and over a broader area.

It is not right to say social media is not a fault. It's not right to say it was a problem before so it doesn't matter anymore. This attitude only benefits the criminals.

Social media companies are explicitly and knowingly targeting children to generate ad revenue. They know these children aren't using the platform safely and they know they are circumventing it's age restriction features. They don't care about the consequences, only the revenue they can generate.

The problem is ideology. The Texas power grid is the end state of neo-liberalism taken to the extreme.

The belief that natural monopolies should be privately controlled with minimum regulations has lead to this. A power grid run for maximum short term profit with minimum investment. The grids poorly maintained, because that doesn't make money. The grid is unfit, because implementing designs that cover the extremes is expensive. The price is excessive because the state is ideologically unwilling to intervene.

I wonder if Linux is 15% better, or Microsoft tracking uses that much processing.

He a junkie you would see rambling at a bus stop incoherently. The difference is an expanded vocabulary and a he's been on TV.

Head and shoulders has anti-fungal properties. That may have been the source of your smelling problem.

It's just a big antenna. If you can broadcast a large signal on all the same frequencies you can drown out the other signals. It takes lots of power. More targeted approaches can make it more efficient, that probably where most of the money went.

The killers had other targets planned and a previous failed attempts. These other potential victims not being trans suggests they wanted to murder more than specifically murder a trans person.

I suspect prosecutors may argue that it wouldn't be in the public interest to pursue the additional charges associated with a transphobic murder. Especially when the murder charges pursued are so likely to stick and get a long sentence, because of all the planning involved. The transphobic related charges could inflame the public debate against transgender people. With a possible rise in attacks and rhetoric against them. Anti-trans sentiment has been pushed by conservatives in the UK to try and bolster their polling. Inflaming this debate further could lead to more attacks on trans people and even bias some of the jury against the victim.

Boy Y was definitely transphobic and they believed their victim being trans would make it easier to lure her and get away with killing her. But the act of murdering did appear to be the primary motivation, from the text messages between the two killers.

Software engineering does have standards and methods to developing software. These standards and methods are applied in Defence and Aerospace applications. Software engineering was developed or conceived by NATO to manage the increasing complexity of software development.

The big problem is people often confuse software development or programming with software engineering. Calling anyone that programs a software engineer. This isn't the case. It's entirely possible to be a software engineer without knowing how to code (but impractical).

Hilarious, but if the reporter asked this they would find it harder to get invites to events. Which is a problem for journalists. Unless your very well regarded for your journalism, you can't push powerful people without risking your career.

Servo is a fork of a Mozilla research project, it's moved to the Linux foundation.

They are rebuilding a web engine built for the internet today, rather than adapting the older web engines of yesterday. Mozilla already uses some of their components in Firefox.

But they are only building a web engine, for other people to turn into browsers, we views, electron alternatives etc.

The bigger bullet means it's easier to avoid.

The UK never needed ID, there was no evidence of voter fraud happening at polling stations. So voter ID was introduced.

There has been evidence of voter fraud happening via postal votes where no id is required.

The UK doesn't have any government ID, only ID by proxy like drivers license and passport. So poorer people and the elderly are less likely to have photo id. Only one group got an exception - the one that voted conservative.

The previous Scottish conservative leader committed electoral crimes live on TV. There was no consequences. But know people are further disincentivesed to vote, despite very little evidence of people fraudulent casting votes claiming to be someone else.

They could attempt to quantify how gamed the result is and reduce its ranking. Also punishing domains with lower ranking the more they return SEO optimised pages. They could also increase the ranking of older pages.

This doesn’t really help google, it only really improves their search results. Google wants these hyper SEO optimised results with lots of advertising. Additionally, the less relevant the result is the more searches a person does. Each search is an additional set of ad impressions.

Google search is better than ever. Because it generates more advertising opportunities for google. Google isn’t in the business of returning good search results, they are in the business of displaying ads.

Hitler also held referendums under military occupation.

They are often sold to non-tech people as fire sticks.

There general use case is:

  1. You buy a fire stick from Amazon.
  2. You give it to someone that 'hacks' them.
  3. You transfer money to an account and are provided login credentials.

The 'hack' is just enabling side loading on the Amazon stick and downloading an IP client. Takes two minutes and is easily done, but people charge £50 for it. You can do it yourself if you already have access to an IPTV provider.

The difficult thing to do online is get access to the IPTV provider to purchase such a service. They don't have any public online presence. They manage and sell their services through group chat apps like discord, telegram and some lesser know equivalent apps. The online way to get access to them is through someone you know.

Refering people to these services is actively encouraged. The providers often offer discounts/free periods if you referral makes a purchase.

The use of these services in the UK is so endemic that football channels now frequently advertise VPNs. Because it encouraged by the vendors of these IPTV sellers.

These services are not legal. So there is little recourse if the quality of service is bad or they sell your account details to someone. They also don't spend much on infrastructure, so you the streaming quality is often limited to 720p and will struggle to serve during sporting popular sporting events.

No one is going to offer you it on here. Most people in this sub will be able to get better quality downloads for free. They also don't want a public record of them using or distribution such service.

I don't use them and don't recommend them, I also don't like live sports which is their biggest selling point. As live sports is very expensive as so much is broken up between different legal providers.

If you don't know anyone that uses them, you'll have to make some friends. Best place is sport events/pubs.

In the UK pedestrian car collisions are falling, despite increased amounts of cars and distances walked. In the US pedestrian collisions are at high.

I don't think it's the safety features in cars that matter here. Similar features are going to be present in the UK as the US. People in the US are buying bigger and bigger trucks. They also have less walkable cities (this could also improve in the UK). They should be taxing larger vehicles more. Get them off the road, they have larger blind spots and greater injury on impact.

That would make it harder for creative people to produce things and make money from it. Abolishing copyright isn't the answer. We still need a system like that.

A shorter period of copyright, would encourage more new content. As creative industries could no longer rely on old outdated work.

Brave is not completely independent of chrome. It’s completely and entirely dependent on it. Brave developers don’t and probably can’t develope a modern web browser. All they do is adapt chromium to have a few extra features.

There is only three major web browsers. Firefox, safari and chrome. Everything else is just a few addons, preconfigured settings and UI changes. Even chrome was largely safari until Google forked their web engine.

It's stain-less not stain-free. Stainless steel stains less relative to steel. The amount it stains less is relative to its additional alloys added like chromium. The more chromium the less stain, it also increases its price considerably.

The amount of stainless steel used on these vehicles is considerable. So there will be a lot of money to be saved by using a low grade stainless steel.
