The pendulum is swinging back towards the monopoly model that destroyed cable. Time to dust off the old Jolly Roger and teach streaming an old lesson of what happens when you price gouge people.

Wow. I’m glad she spoke up and I hope she’s doing better now. I hope more people at LTT are empowered to speak out/leave by her courage.

These are probably the first times in his entire life that consequences have been progressive, swift, and clear. Every good parent knows how this works. Too bad he comes from a family of malignant narcissists. Emotionally, this man is a toddler.

Fortunately, the only thing he seems good at doing is burning billions of dollars in a dumpster fire formerly known as Twitter. Competency seems to have a liberal bias.

These debates seem more and more like massive focus groups. They get the non-contenders to say preposterous things with two goals: see what sticks and propagate lies.

They could…but they’d still have to verify the entire process was independently reproducible anyway.

Yes - I am in the process of doing that right now. The results are mixed but mostly positive. Without going into too much detail, we were very good friends for 3 years at my first job out of uni but when my contract ended we lost touch. It’s about 20 years later now and although I still enjoy their company the friendship is very different. It’s helped me reflect on how I’ve changed since then. Definitely worth it, but not without challenge.

The iPhone is their cash cow. They need it to bring stable and sizeable income to fund things like vr goggles. I’m not saying the haters are wrong, just that their expectations for what Apple will innovate on the iPhone might be a little misplaced.

Maybe we need to update the nomenclature. Software with loot boxes, pay to win mechanics, predatory gameplay loops, and storefront-first design should now be called “casinos”. They should have disclaimers about gambling and addiction in their load screen, have age restrictions, and should be forced to institute limits on what can be spent in a certain time frame. Feature-complete software with zero storefronts of any kind would be allowed to brand themselves as “games”.

Ontario, Canada has all but eliminated homework entirely until high school. There is absolutely no good data saying it helps in acquisition or retention of skills over the long term. Completion of homework is also strongly correlated along class lines. If Suzy has a stable home, is fed well, and gets good sleep, she will likely have time and resources to complete homework. If Todd doesn’t, he likely won’t. We should focus on the in-school instruction. As far as the length of day? If you keep the kids longer it will cost more so it’s unlikely many jurisdictions will raise taxes for that expenditure.

Maybe they’ll pencil in a hand size field just to get it in the record lol

I don’t think Twitter and Reddit are going to die quickly. They have user bases that they can monetize and bots to flood content. They were shitty enough that enough of left and gave a nice boost to federated platforms. That boost will grow every time those legacy platforms alienate their users by treating them badly. Like windows and Linux.

This thinking just feels like moving in the wrong direction. As an elementary teacher, I know that by next year all my assessments need to be practical or interview based. LLMs are here to stay and the quicker we learn to work with them the better off students will be.

I feel like the world needs to see this liar get convicted. We all need assurance that we are not, in fact, living in a total dystopia where his gaslighting goes completely unpunished in perpetuity.

I mean the answer here is simple. Listen to your employees. They are your content, Linus.

As a newly converted Fedora user, has this x11 been an issue or is this simply an aesthetics/preference thing?

They want to kill the site and license the data. Same with Twitter. It’s the only explanation that makes sense based on what they’re doing.

I’ve tried to migrate my account several times in the past. It never works for some reason. Also, I can never seem to untangle the web of deceit known as Microsoft/xbox/Minecraft profiles and family/group settings. About once a year I spend a couple hours trying to sort it out and then give up because it never works. Google can be awful sometimes but at least they figured out “sign in with Google”

They are some seriously cool games coming out this year like Starfield, armoured core 6, and Baldur gate 3. Sell your ps5 and get a pc or steam deck.

There will always be some abuse of services. It just turns out to be negligible most of the time. The benefits will far outweigh the losses. Also - people shop for services all the time. If they want to move to a province that has better benefits, that would be normal and smart. If the program ends up being mostly federal, this won’t be as much of an issue as things will be more standardized, though.

If you haven’t watched Extrapolations on Apple TV, you should. It combines the existential dread of climate change with the upbeat and witty story tension of Chernobyl.

Seriously though, it’s a good show but maybe don’t drink while watching?

Two years ago I was going to but my first ford, my first truck, AND my first electric because it was the same car. On paper the F150 Lightning seems like the most practical family car ever made. Dealer markup and low volume completely killed it. Ford should eliminate dealerships and sell direct with fixed pricing.

I’m exactly the same. I feel like the opportunity to have a productive conversation on Lemmy is a lot higher. There are fewer of us right now but we are the motivated minority kicking Reddit to the curb for its terrible actions and we want to see Lemmy thrive.

This makes sense. By now a full 3-4% of all data on the internet is probably Linux help forums so it’s probably highly represented in its dataset lol

The messenger and stardew valley are perfect steam deck games. I suspect hades is too but I put too many hours into it on PC before I got the deck.

Actual evidence is secondary or tertiary in need. Stomping their feet, having a tantrum, and making a scene are the point.

It is possible for tech to be useful in schools. There may be a time in the best future where AI gives children across the planet access to much more education than they have historically had. The issue with the way the tech is used in the West right now is that it destroys classroom cohesion. Phones, tablets, and Chromebooks have become YouTube and tick-tock machines that kids retreat into whenever they are able. Getting kids to be interested in working with others on anything is becoming a monumental task. Not to mention that hardly any of them think it’s actually valuable to learn anything at all other than how to make money as a streamer or influencer.

The watermark would likely be comprised of a few different methods to embed marker pixel sets that would be difficult/impossible to see in addition to ones that are visible. Think printed currency. I’m not saying there won’t be an arms race to circumvent it like drm, or bad actors who counterfeit it, but the work should be done to try to ensure some semblance of reliability in important distributed content.

Every time I bite into one, I get this. When I’m cautious and decide to cut? Dry as a bone. smh

If you don’t scam this how could you call yourself a trump candidate.

You can’t pull social security if you just die right after retirement!

Yuck

Remember when the IT guy at mar a lago switched to states evidence when he got his own lawyer? Yeah - you probably don’t want trump’s lawyers anyway lol.

The end of Tchaikovsky 5 has a surprise coda.

This has always been an underlying scam of capitalism. It’s usually much more profitable to lie and make money than it is to provide a truly good product and/or service.

I’m sorry but they don’t actually want you to have money. They want you to have credit. Lots and lots of credit if possible. Because then they win twice. Once in the purchases and second in the interest.
