More focus on the ability to maintain, repair, and perhaps even upgrade existing tech. So often people are pushed to upgrade constantly, and devices aren't really built to last anymore. For example, those yearly trade in upgrade plans that cell phone providers do. It sucks knowing that, once the battery in my cell phone finally dies, the whole phone is essentially garbage and has to be replaced. I miss my older smartphones that still had replaceable batteries, because at least then it's just the battery that's garbage.
We're throwing so much of our very limited amount of resources right into landfills because of planned obsolescence.

I wouldn't say that it's evil, but rather it doesn't exist for the benefit of players, it exists for the benefit of corporations. They know that it hurts performance in games and prevents a lot of people from playing games that they've legitimately purchased, but so long as it's preventing some piracy they do not care.

tell that to the cheapest apartment I could find being, quite literally, more than half my income.

It is, but most of their library is DRM free, so once you download it, those files are yours. Steam won't let you launch a game without logging into your account, gog doesn't even check.

Linux really isn't ideal for anyone who isn't already a tech enthusiast on some level. I recently did a fresh install of Kubuntu and after about a week, it prompted me that there were updates, so I clicked the notification and ran the updates, after which my BIOS could no longer detect the UEFI partition. I had to use a live usb to chroot into the system and repair it, as well as update grub, in order to fix it.
It's fixable, but this is not something anyone who doesn't already know what they're doing can fix. I've had auto updates in the past put me on boot-loops thanks to nvidia drivers, etc.
This kind of thing needs to almost never happen for linux to be friendly for those who just want their computer to work without any technical understanding. This, honestly though, can't happen because of the nature of distros, you can't ever make guarantees that everything will work because every distro has slightly different packages.
Wine is getting better, but compatibility is still an issue, especially for people who rely really heavily on microsoft office or adobe products.

If collecting brings you joy, do it. It keeps retro hardware out of the landfills.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'd like to see this influence the smartphones being sold in the US as well. One of the primary things that keeps me replacing my smartphones is battery life, so being able to replace the battery would be incredible.

Just make your account on an instance that refuses to federate with meta, there's groups of people agreeing to do so.

I have only managed to convince ONE person to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion, tragically, because it's my favorite tv show of all time.

The problem that they're not considering is that if they raise the prices, more people are going to be priced out of buying the games, and will resort to piracy. The cost of living is absurd right now, and I can only afford a handful of $60 games a year.

Nobody is going to buy this I don't get why they're pushing it

Honestly, I'm tired of corporate social media, and it's integration with ActivityPub is the last thing I want for the platform. I don't want "big" social media accounts ran by social media management teams, posting advertisements and "content". I don't want to see how many likes or boosts a post got, or to see celebrities show up in my TL. All that corporate social media like Threads will do by federating, is shove that kind of "content" onto people's TL's unless they defederate from them, as well as all the data collection that comes along with corporate social media.
And, unfortunately, for those that USE Threads, they're at best getting a worse experience of the fediverse than they could be.

I know it's maybe not a great replacement for everyone, but this crap is why I stopped using YouTube and just use Peertube now.

If they want to spend any money you them on drugs/alcohol... So what? Like, I can guarantee you that if I had to sleep on the street whatever gets me through my day or helps me sleep does that. Giving homeless people food is kind, but honestly it's very common already and they have other needs. I give them money, because I've almost been there a few points in my life.

Nintendo 64 games.
It was the first game console I really played much of growing up. I'd go to my dads on the weekends and he had it there, so it was this magical time, playing Ocarina of Time and Mario Kart 64. I've collected nearly all the games I grew up with, as well as some I never played as a kid. I like having it, knowing that at any time I can play them, in their original forms on hardware. Emulation is great but playing on hardware just hits different.

It's unfortunate, honestly. I care MUCH more for Elder Scrolls as a franchise over what they are doing with starfield, and I've been waiting for another one since my first playthrough of Skyrim when it launched on xbox 360. At this point I'm more excited for skyrim mods like skyblivion and skywind than anything bethesda is doing.

Such is the risk of using an unencrypted social media for messaging private information. You run the same risk anywhere online.

"Is there a reason why Lemmy is so fixated on Israel/Palestine?"
I figure that people who take the time to swap to federated social media are generally going to be people that are a little more political...
and Israel is currently actively committing genocide. So political people are posting anti-israel posts. It's really not more complicated than that.

Kde defaults to a windows style layout, but it's very configurable by design. You can freely add and customize panels with different widgets. Kde has different design philosophies than Gnome. Even with a similar dock + menu bar layout, features vary or are handled differently.

A lot of games increase difficulty by just turning up HP and attack numbers, and part of the fun of souls games is that that's really not how they handled difficulty.

Any console that lets you experience games that you will enjoy is worth it. Who cares about being caught up, the PS4 has a ton of fantastic games, and $100 is a great deal.

Why do you think people use a credit card to buy nice things they don't need, per se?
Something like 62% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. It's not that people "feel they deserve stuff before they can afford it", it's that in our current economic system, prices are going up and wages are staying low. Productivity is going up, but compensation is not keeping up with prices or productivity. People can at least dream of being able to pay off a credit card that they used to buy a new TV or maybe a new car, but something bigger like a house, or comfortably affording children, is off the table because of how expensive everything is right now.
But let's be totally honest, people get into debt to do things like pay rent, or on car repairs, or hospital bills, or vet bills, etc. etc.

Half the population is literally CHILDREN.
You might also want to consider why, in the first place, any of them would support Hamas? Israel started this, it's always been an attempted genocide.

Never have, never will.

I mean, each time he's messed it up more, another group of people migrates off twitter over to alternatives. I also think more people in general are becoming aware of the fediverse in general thanks to what's going on w/ reddit, but that's speculation on my part.

They did, SF6 has "modern controls" as the default, that get rid of motion inputs entirely.

There's no need to ever move out from your parents if the living situation is positive for all of you. I truly believe that the pressure to be "independent" is a coordinated strategy to keep people separate so everyone has to buy their own set of everything. It maximizes profit for big corporations and landlords.

It's the same thing they did to black people and indigenous people, then gay people, and now it's trans people. It was never about protecting anyone, it's about maintaining their own power by targeting others.

I feel like it's hit-or-miss. A lot of people will zipper merge, but a lot of other people don't care and mess things up.

I genuinely think it's all dependent on the game. Very low frame rates can be quite playable on games that don't require good reactions, think something like slay the spire, I'd argue Fallout works pretty well as well thanks to VATS. On the other hand, fighting games need to be at 60 FPS period. I am usually happy on the deck so long as I can hit 45 FPS.

It's important to recognize just how much more billionaires make than millionaires, but at the same time, no, neither of them are good or can be while maintaining that amount of wealth, and the reason is because you cannot make that much money by working. The ONLY way to make that much money is by making profit off of others.

I'm not sure what there is to like, honestly. Capitalism has done an excellent job at making sure that we have homeless and hungry people, despite having more homes than homeless people, and we throw away enough food to feed all of them too. conservative values led to suburban america, which is such an incredible failure in every single way. You can't walk practically anywhere, we don't design infrastructure for pedestrians, and we build anti-homeless architecture anywhere that we do happen to have areas people can take shelter from the elements or sit down in public (because having homeless people visible is bad for business!). You have to pay money to just exist anywhere. I'm fucking tired of it. It inconveniences those of us who have homes, and just want to be able to socialize in public places, and makes existence HELL for those of us without homes.
Liberalism, at best, wants to maintain the status quo, and is never willing to push for change fast enough to stop people from slipping through the cracks. Roe VS Wade was, quite literally, abolished while we had a liberal president. Biden is still funding Israel's genocide.
Capitalism calls for infinite growth in order to please investors... which will stop eventually. Whether we want it to or not. They'll just destroy the planet even more than they already before they get to that point. There's not infinite resources, and the damage we've done to our planet because of industrialization and capitalism is irreversible.
So yeah.
Fuck liberalism, capitalism, and conservatism.

I don't know that there's a mod, but the building really can be mostly ignored outside of a small handful of quests. It's mostly optional.

Final Fantasy VII. I was never able to beat the sephiroth boss fight. I enjoyed the story, but I don't feel the need to play it again.

A big part of why I use Jellyfin to self host is because I want local, offline access to media. I can host it on my PC, which only took like 30 minutes for me to set up, and use the app to Chromecast it to my tv. That'd be a lot harder if I was streaming off shady streaming sites.

Honestly, I just don't care. You don't become a billionaire ethically, and they happened to spend their riches on something so incredibly stupid, when others around the world are suffering because of their existence.
Like yes it's sad for their families and such... But the conversation has revolved around this submarine instead of focusing on, I don't know, that migrant ship that capsized and killed like 500 people.

IT doesn't need to be good at stopping piracy as long as it stops some piracy, or at least as long as they can sweet talk executives into believing it makes a difference.

People just don't have the spending money anymore for phones. Especially given how expensive the flagships are.

There is a lot of games that are like that that are very high quality. Splatoon 2 and 3 have pretty extensive single players that focus massively around platforming and shooting, plus online multiplayer. Mario Odyssey is an obvious one, Mario 3D world/Bowsers fury. A hat in time. Sonic frontiers. Yooka-laylee has two games. Psychonauts 2. Super Lucky's tale. There's remakes like Spyro reignited and crash insane trilogy. Ratchet & clank rift apart. It takes two. Bomb rush cyberpunk. Hell, I know it's not quite the same genre but I would count Fall guys.
I know that 3D platformers are nowhere near as commonly developed, especially by big companies, but let's not act like there's a drought of good quality games to play that are as good if not better than the PS2 platformers...
