I love the Atari ST and Linux!

Jirard never seemed like the type of guy to pull something like this and I really want to see his response but having the money just sit there (and hopefully still there) for years is a really bad look for him. At the very least he was just clueless but that's still damaging taking into account all the lies on the charity streams

I have seen this same image circulated for years. We need a new one because transmission in D tier is unacceptable.

Back when systemd was a hot topic I jumped on the bandwagon of using systemd-less distros just because people were telling me how bad it was. To this day I still use openrc but the reality is that systemd works very well and is easy to understand and use. The average user gains no benefit to using another init besides having a better understanding of how the system works.

If there's a game that can't run on Linux in the current year then that's intentional and it's not worth anyone's money.

Reddit is only good for solutions though search results but do it anyway. Make it worse and worse until people start looking for alternatives.

I have been pretty comfortable here because I'm into nerdy things and most of us here are nerds. In fact, the only people that cared about reddit locking down the API were nerds or people jumping on the bandwagon because it was the next big thing. Others didn't care and just wanted reddit back and a lot of people that were here in the beginning went back to reddit. We will probably grow overtime but there's no point in wondering why lemmy isn't more popular, just participate in the communities you like.

How is this Web3 scam still a thing? I thought I would finally stop hearing it after the crash but it just keeps coming back. The only people who will get rich from this are the scammers themselves.

Today I started getting ads with no video just audio. I didn't get the adblocker message yet. Firefox ESR+ublock origin

I have actually been using Lemmy a lot more the past few days. I haven't had discussions this good on the internet in years. There's no karma so people don't spam the same jokes over and over again, It's actually really good, well constructed discussion most of the time.

Not necessarily UI but the overuse of javascript on most websites. It makes browsing the web on low power and old devices a nightmare.

I will always support valve because of their amazing Linux support but if GOG finally made a client for Linux then I would try to use that more. I wish Epic would also support Linux but with massive douchebag Tim Sweeney running the company, that will never happen.

I think they're the go-to company if you want to get a laptop in 2023. I got my unit back in 2021 and used it every day since, and it has taken quite a beating. It went though several light impacts and one big drop but the only thing to show for it is a small dent on the back.

My only two complaints are

  • After a year, the USB-C cable supplied with the laptop started to split open. I don't know if this is only a defect in early batches but it's worth noting.
  • Suspend on Linux is an issue. Linux works great but it doesn't suspend properly. Putting in this command as root echo "deep" > /sys/power/mem_sleep which makes your system use deep sleep instead of s2idle which solved the issue but waking up from suspend is now 8-10 seconds instead of 2 seconds.

I expect these hardware issues and more to be fixed on newer boards and the framework 16 but I'll continue to use my 13 and upgrade to an AMD board and use my intel board to make a mini PC. There's really no reason to buy Dell, HP, or Lenovo anymore now that framework exist and has delivered on all their promises.

It sucks that cool projects like hyprland are usually riddled with toxic weirdos that ruin it. It also sucks that there's not much to choose in the wayland space that's usable and actively developed but I refuse to use hyprland after seeing this.

Seeing how he looks now is incredibly sad. I really hope he makes it though this.

Yeah it's great, It's never been a better time to be a Linux user. There's always something to look forward to and we get more support every year. I'm going to give cosmic a shot when they release it.

Yeah. Install steam.

I love seeing stuff like this! I think anyone who is used to windows should try Linux out on a cheap laptop and see how they like it.

GNOME

Sucks for us interested in it but It's completely understandable. Making an account on another instance and transferring your data takes no time at all, which is exactly what I did.

Once in a while I venture their forums as a morbid curiosity and it always delivers.

This is accurate

Transferring the communities you subscribed or blocked to your new account. I used lasim, just downloaded the info from my old account and uploaded it to my new one. Only took a few seconds to do.

Twitter has had nothing but rage bait and engagement bots for a while now and the tweets are so obviously fake that even the general public is slowly starting to catch on. It's such a cesspool that you would be hard-pressed to find anything remotely entertaining or informative. Instead you will just leave the site with a feeling of disgust and frustration.

There's no better platform on the fediverse because of how many people are here.

I preordered this. it's just a 7800 emulation box but the fact it accepts original cartridges and is authentic to the 2600 is cool. I think the price is fair, They're trying to make a profit and they will most likely reprint a large portion of the library to make more money, The idea of Atari re-releasing some rare 7800 games is pretty exciting and I hope they do it. Not a big fan of modern Atari but this is a good move and I hope they will give their computers the same treatment.

Hopefully the day of RISC-V overthrowing x86 is sooner than we think. Progress on development has been fast and it's very exciting.

I had a feeling this was the case. Youtube has been painful for the past month now.

There's just way too many to list. A few of my favorite composers are

  • Tim Follin
  • Jochen Hippel
  • Matt Furniss
  • David Whittaker
  • Jeroen Tel
  • Yuzo Koshiro
  • Rob Hubbard

Papirus is by far the best icon theme for Linux. It has icons for even the most obscure and niche applications

I can't stand Bluetooth headphones, the delay is unbearable. It's gotta be wired or 2.4ghz for me.

This is what Gentoo needed. I've been using it for a long time and love it as it is but sometimes when there's a bunch of slot conflicts or a compile error it makes me wish I just dealt with binaries instead. Now that we have the best of both worlds, it will make Gentoo appeal to a wider userbase and make it less painful to use on older hardware.

"consumer-grade"

Yeah, that's the point. Again, the average user (as in desktop user) gains nothing from using a different init. There may have been some crazy server-side scenario where the type of init you used actually mattered but we're talking about desktop Linux, which the answer is a clear-cut no. I'm not stopping the people that are interested in trying a different init out, I'm just telling them that there's little to no benefit in the end if they're expecting an improvement in performance or whatever else.

Every company but Nintendo, I do not trust Nintendo. I can imagine them going after people who make flashcarts like krizz and charging AAA prices for games like chrono trigger and earthbound just to cash in on the insane prices you see on eBay.

Nice, I love Mageia. I recommend anyone still distrohopping to give it a shot.

Spanish developers using Alfonso Azpiri's art for their games is actually genius. If I was a kid in the late 80's I would have bought game over or R.A.M the moment I saw the cover.

I wish. Even xfce will get wayland support before they do.

Check it out. It's a really fun game and perfect for the deck.

I load this up on my ST all the time but I have to turn the music off. All paradox developed games have annoying music that loops every 10 seconds and it drives me mad after only a minute of playing. One cool thing about the ST version is that it takes advantage of the MIDI ports so you can plug in a MIDI synthesizer and the music will output though that, but again, It's the same annoying tune.

Damn. I have dealt with this for so long that I forgot it was even a bug.

Glad to see another runcat user. It's a must have extension.
