It's currently working, but every few days youtube will tweak something, and sometime later (minutes to hours) there will be an ublock update for it.

Sometimes you have to wait a little longer, but this is the arms race.

If you don't like how Google is able to do this, know it's because of it's market share, and you should just use Firefox.

It's stories like this that don't surprise me as much as make me ask: How the fuck do you store and process this much data to get anything useful out of it.

That's the engineering knowledge lost over the last 30 years costed out.

Making 2 reactors since 95 has some side effects, a lot of the senior engineers since then have retired, standards have changed, and new engineers need to learn.

I'm sure that everyone who was raging at Sync over the last few days, stating that all software should be FOSS have all made significant contributions to the Lemmy devs.

FOSS is pretty bloody great, and one of the greatest things about the modern IT industry. But FOSS doesn't pay a mortgage.

To be clear: I have contributed to Lemmy, and will likely pay a lifetime fee for Sync sooner or later.

So your answer to "Google is evil use another browser" is... if we all swap to Firefox google will kill it?

Google is keeping Firefox alive because 5% of all web users using Google search by default is pretty useful for them.

If you want to avoid that, simply use firefox and set your search to DuckDuckGo/Bing. If Google drops them, Microsoft have already shown a want to step up into that position.

The people have spoken, and shockingly republicans spent a fuck load of the tax payers money to be sure that they didn't misspeak.

Gonna be a fun next century or so

It's often far easier to attack than defend.

Google has to find and block every way, ublock just has to make a new way to bypass the blocks.

Install Firefox

Swiggity swooty climate change is coming for that booty

Google can't make websites update.

Websites will only update to Chrome specific things if Chrome is the dominant browser.

How do you stop Chrome being the dominant browser? By not using it.

Then don't let Chrome be a super majority of users.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner.

He sold the shares, why should Tesla reimburse him for his folly? If he wants to have those shares back, he can rebuy them on the open market, just like anybody else would do.

Install Firefox.

Time to donate to the internet archibe.

This is a naive take TMHO.

Youtube has been rolling this out, phased, slowly, for the last few months. Judging peoples reactions and engagement levels.

They are only mildly foolish and know that ad block users are some of their most engaged and tech savvy. Just like ad block users generally know that youtube can't exist without ad, and if everyone used them, we might all be worse off.

Roll it out quickly, and you create awareness and ignite the fuckery out of the arms race, do it slowly, watch the engagement, and try to find the best messaging to bring "us" "back on side", and maybe they stand a chance to shift the needle.

(Firefox nightly + ublock origin for the record, had ad block messages on/off from Youtube for about a week)

The same as what happened when vine shut down.

Take their follows as best as they can to another platform. Continue on.

That's not even the biggest level of "we told you this would happen."

They pulled this shit previously with other standards (WebHID). Where they proposed a terrible standard, and then implemented it ignoring all feedback. Only last time it played out over months, and this time... weeks?

Sweet jesus.

Which is a possible future.

But it's less likely if more people use Firefox.

While the engineers could have said that, equally Elon could have asked what the problems/downsides were to doing it faster.

Use Firefox.

Google can only act like this because of their market share.

It's on purpose.

You spend longer IN Google, so you see more Google ads, on a Google platform, so Google gets a bigger cut of the pie.

It's the same reason Google started summarizing Wikipedia (or other highly rated results) on its search results where possible. Why they built basic functionality (timers etc) into their search engine.

This is pretty much it.

The city knows about your protest so they can plan accordingly.

They may also make requests of your protest, eg, could you self organise your own traffic wardens to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

It may be the mug shot effect, maybe its the treason... but i swear, all of them have the worst fucking posture.

Valve might not be a publically traded company, but it sti has shareholders. Some of those shareholders still want Valve to increase value, etc.

The difference is that valve has a songle large share holder who seems to just not give a fuck about those pressures. While most (all) publically traded companies crumble and fall to that pressure.

Are you sure? Or is it because you're not in the test group?

I'm on nightly/up to date ublock and i see it.

Your bank will only do it, if, and only if, Chrome is a majority of browsers they see.

How do you stop that? By not using it.

Everyone keeps postulating over a terrible future, but won't actually do anything now, today, to help prevent it.

It depends on how bright it is where you are.

When it's very very dim your color sensing part of your eyes, which are less sensitive to light, don't work. Only the black and white parts of your vision work.

Kind of.

I do believe he testified recently that he is in good financial standing and has $400m cash. Which means perjury time, baby! Let's go!

Oh great. Another place on the web where my usage of it will simply feed some new language model.

Firefox currently enjoys protection from being "relatively niche" in the browser market (aka not Chromium based trash).

But if I had to place a bet on which browser would put effort in to protecting your privacy, including which extensions are installed, my bet would be on Firefox over Chrome.

If Facebook hasn't had a mas exodus, neither will Reddit.

Facebooks death is slow and ongoing, and I'm pretty sure Reddit's will be too.

A port of a browser is relatively minimal effort. Typically, the changes are largely cosmetic, and occasionally skin deep.

There's a reason none of the ports of Chrome caught the recent snafu with Google having its own special addon that fucks your privacy.

Developing a browser, Firefox or Chrome, takes a huge amount of effort, and are on a similar scale to both Windows and Linux. It's a lot. There are a lot of places to hide things. Taking all of that, and making V2 continue to work... well it'll be alright to start with. It's probably a flag somewhere currently. But in 2 years time? 5 years time? It will take a lot to keep V2 working, let alone back porting V3 features that people may actually want.

Just use Firefox instead.

The CDC told reporters on a call that it has not seen evidence of human to human transmission of bird flu and that it has tested close to 40 people since March, including the Michigan worker.

If, and only if, we see human to human transmission, then we sorry. Not before.

Mah, now he's retired he'll suddenly realize how terrible he's been all these years.

Climate change is real, we should help the poor, all that jazz, no more power to effect change.

Ok idealist.

What is your alternative funding stream for Mozilla?

It's bad.

Is it worse than the advertising owned browser that gives your information directly to said advertiser?
