As slimy and nasty as DeSantis is, this doesn't sound crazy. Who thought permanent alimony was a good idea on the first place? So you divorce, ex-spouse pays you, and they never get to retire or quit their job because you want their money until you die? Why not allow compromises or change? Even paying child support isn't permanent.

This is the first era in humanity's existence where screaming into the vast abyss will get you a few digital screams of reassurance echoed back at you, sometimes hundreds. Historically there is no precedence for this, nor evolutionarily, and people are not developed catered to this modern existence. It is truly wonderful to get to exist in this moment in human history where not only can we shoot satellites into space but we can also instant message poo emojis to someone on the other side of the planet, and get their response poo emojis instantly, without having to wait for it to be carried on boats, on the backs of horseback postmen and on pidgeons.

The great part of federation is that users who want to use Threads still can, and instances who don't want to federate with Meta don't have to. People who want to double-dip can sign up for their favorite instance(s) of choice, as well as with Threads. Neither one has to have any app shut down and everyone still gets to make a choice as an end-user rather than be decided upon by an unmovable authority. Win win!

The same world that produced the USDA Expenditures on Children by Families Consumer Expenditure Survey results, in which that amount is similar to other numbers. The US government may or may not have artificially inflated these numbers for intrinsic benefits. Depending on how you slice the numbers or what variables in that child's life are at play, a child can easily cost more than $2700 a month, but millions of families also raise multiple children simultaneously on less money than that. In the same world where rent prices on 1-2 bedroom places can start upwards from $1500/month, what values do make sense? The answer to that depends on whether we're talking about Musk or actual people.

Developers have been kicking into overdrive to smooth things out. Web UIs are improving in stability under load, and apps like Wefwef are performing great. Each day people participate, donate, bug report, and audit code, is another day that Lemmy improves its rigidity.

All of the games in the Tribes series, my personal favorites being Tribes Ascend and Aerial Assault. Tribes had a play style similar to Halo but with a movement more like Unreal along with a touch of 'surfing' over land and some jetpacks. They're all great fun and still fun for me to play today. IIRC, the last game's official online servers are no longer active, but there is a community following for Tribes Ascend that helps keep the game alive and updated, look up TribesLauncherSharp and TAMods for more info if interested. I backed up the disc I have for Tribes Aerial Assault to an ISO and it works great in PCSX2. With 1080p/4K rendering, extra graphics options, wide-screen patches, and controller customization it's way easier to play than originally on composite CRT with a Dualshock.

Yup, I did! Then I joined Lemmy...

The toxic behaviour found in a lot of subreddits. Its an inevitable thing that it brews in communities or instances, but it'd be nice if Lemmy held itself above repeating the patterns of the lowest common denominedditor.

It'd be great for him to manage to pull a rabbit out of his trick hat and make another legend again. Some of his older games are absolute gems, but I wasn't astonished by The Trail: Frontier Challenge which lowered my expectations for his future works. Hopefully his next not-Fable is a fun experience worth playing that brings some solid gameplay to the table.

Unknown Horizons. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unknown_Horizons Its free, and has a fun gameplay cycle and UI. The game engine the old version used is outdated and it's undergoing a slow Godot rewrite to modernize it. I've spent at least a hundred hours playing it, it's a lot of fun and keeps things simple but strategic.

For self-hosted hobby instances, expenses are likely all out of pocket. Instances amassing a large amount of users could potentially be driven to aggressive financially-driven changes of how their instance works, to maximize exposure to ad posts or sponsored pinned posts, for example. Donation-centric contribution helps alleviate that kind of seeping financial platform degradation.

Yeah, falling asleep while working at a desk for long hours straight. Not suddenly, but just overall unable to stay awake for major portions of the usual workday. The full-time position before the one I'm in now, I was at the office and would sometimes fall asleep during processing, or do orders on a sleepwalk autopilot, waking up after a few were submitted. It didn't seem to really affect my accuracy, but it was jarring when I snapped back to. Thanks for the great advice! Probably should lower my morning caffeine, drink more water, and time my breaks instead of take them when I'm already burnt out... 300mg+ of coffee a morning without water might be too much too quickly. Limiting size of lunch isn't an issue for me, I sometimes forget to take lunch entirely.

Open Street Maps. It has some gaps or missed addresses/neighborhoods/roads because it is built on contributions of volunteers.

She is a human woman with skin, hair, bones, organs, and is capable of creating sound. Other humans receive dopamine from experiencing the audio she creates. They also are human people with brains.

Probably not... I've always heard people get 8 hours of sleep when it's dark, but my whole life I've always had broken sleep that doesn't return to sleep after waking back up, and after years of being unable to sleep consistently at some point I changed approach and just sleep whatever time I get tired. It slightly improved my physical and mental health at the time but my overall tiredness never really reduced, I just don't stare at the ceiling waiting for sleep anymore. The times I get the longest sleep tend to be when the sun is up, which is a disaster for being on-call during daylight business hours.

And let them organize their civilized society enough to the point where they arrange to cook and eat me, explaining to me as I am grilled on the barbie that human rights aren't real because the only species with established civilized rights is theirs? Eat first and ask questions later

Installed: Windows 10, Windows 7, Lubuntu LTS, ZealOS. VMs for MacOS, Android-x86, and Haiku.

Isopropyl alcohol (99% is the good stuff), maybe 2-4 cotton swabs, air dry. Dip swab, rub contacts softly, flip sides of cart, rub, cycle swab, repeat. I had no idea for so many years I was actually damaging the cartridges by blowing into them which just put hot air and moisture on dust. If you have any Switch cartridges or older, and haven't done a proper cleaning, it's amazing how shiny and vibrant the contacts will end up looking, along with the cartridge working more stably.

Mission Critical? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5793ZG7Y9ho Legend Entertainment made a handful of games like that. Might be a different title of theirs?

Lemmy adoption will help grow federation. Lemmy is fairly easy to conceptualize as an end-user, and aside from the bleeding-edge UI/backend bugs, it is easy to use. Common users are unlikely to prefer federation due to attachment to existing communities in non-federated social media, and the 1-more-step required to properly understand instances to get the most out of Lemmy. If certain Lemmy instances hold the majority of the weight of accounts and communities, it will lead to emergent centralization towards specific instances which isn't good for federation. Persuading people who are used to centralized design not to immediately register for the largest Lemmy instance will be a long-standing conundrum for spreading out federation.

Gex.

Or until the milk is frozen and iced and mixed with cream soft-served in a nice bowl with a spoon

Depends on the size of the species. If they are smaller than the average human, most definitely approach them onto a grill and eat them. If they are larger, that approach is still viable, but their size may be difficult if they are similar in scale to mammoths but have opposable thumbs.

Alternatively, it may be insightful to consider the precedents for this. Leprechauns have lived in civilized secrecy for thousands of years, and gnomes have been documented performing organized crime or acts of violence. Regardless of whether humans are related to either, they would be a distinct species from homo sapiens. It may be the case that for any species on Earth that develops civilization, it ensures approach doesn't happen.
