If anyone has an issue with defederating to reduce stress (and worse) for our volunteer mods, please watch the Documentary "The Cleaners" (2018) about how moderators in Manila for Facebook, YouTube, Twitter & Co. got PTSD (and worse) from moderating content. Or at least this video about the traumatic life of a Facebook moderator by The Verge.

Hey, looks awesome. Maybe you can get in touch with @HrBingR@beehaw.org who made this repository: https://github.com/HrBingR/Lemmy_CSS/

and @UrLogicFails@beehaw.org who created an "official" colour scheme together with me

as well as myself, you can reach me in Discord or Matrix, just send me your respective username in a Lemmy PN and I'll contact you.

I am one of the backend admins and I'm pretty sure we can make this official somehow. I will talk to the site admins (=moderators, community managers, bosses) about this. I'm sure we would like to have a few Beehaw-specific themes to select for our users.

Pinging @alyaza@beehaw.org @Gaywallet@beehaw.org @Lionir@beehaw.org just FYI about the current state of things

Zuckerberg is just as insidious, but further under the radar. I don't know which lizardperson I like less.

Yes, copyright and should exist, but only for about ten years, which should be enough time to get rich off it. Afterwards you can just come up with new ideas.

sounds good, but please direct these suggestions not to Beehaw itself because we currently do not routinely contribute code to the software Lemmy. If you have suggestions about the software architecture, reach out to the Lemmy devs here: https://github.com/LemmyNet/

We have the power over ActivityPub

Who is 'we'? And who doesn't say that there's something on top of activitypub?

Plus, if they do create cool features, why would we not also add them?

Because we don't have multiple thousands of paid developers.

Lol- i don’t need a video to know blocking porn was the downfall of tumblr.

So you're saying you watched a 40 minute video in one minute and I shouldn't have posted it because it's the only valid point the video makes?

Or did you rather just read the title of the video and assumed that its content was 40 minutes of repeating what was said in the title in long form?

We're hoping that v0.18.1 is out within the week or even tomorrow, when we wanted to upgrade.

Same, especially with questions about gender and sexuality. I'd have preferred a selfhosted LimeSurvey, Baserow.io or similar.

oh, no. hides from work

Maybe we should not federate by default but rather have admins send us an email to request federation, just like users have to send an email with a request to register?

Or not federate by default if the registration is open without requiring an email?

And Linux gaming is already here for years now ;)

My opinion:

There are a lot of lessons we can learn from the downfall of tumblr for the Fediverse aswell. I am glad there are Mastodon communities which welcome explicit content creators. But some of the comments for that video suggest that they aren't able to connect to people outside of that bubble, since these people's instances might block NSFW ones.

In addition to that, blocking tags like #abuse is an awesome mental health feature which should definitely be embraced by the Fediverse and Lemmy in particular.

Works in KDE on Linux aswell.

But can it run Crysis?

Haha, nice. I didn't like that brand anyway. Keep getting rekt by Asian (e.g. Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Nissan, Honda), French (e.g. Renault, Peugeot) and northern (e.g. Volvo) manufacturers. German automakers are so far behind everyone else that it's astonishing they still survive. Probably subsidies.

I literally never drove a German-made car made in the last 8 years and thought "wow, what a thoughtful infotainment and user experience". It's always laggy, complicated, hard to navigate and hard to use when driving.

Facebook can easily circumvent most requirements like that if the license isn't invasivively copyleft. Usually web standards have permissive licenses.

exactly my experience :D

It's the enshittification of cars.

they look lovely :)

that's not a defense, there are countless scanning apps for phones and tablets which magically correct the perspective and distortion and remove the creases. In a way, these are even better than scanners because they have a very high resolution.

I switched from Franz to Ferdi to Ferdium and then I noticed all it's doing is creating PWAs in profiles, which made me use Chromium with some cookie deletion and privacy add-ons and just install the applications I needed as PWAs. You can start Chromium with a separate profile and auto open all of the apps which you can't install as PWAs in tabs, and you can move the tab bar to the left side. Then you basically have Ferdium with extra steps and better efficiency.

I didn't drive a BMW 320e (2021) but a BMW 320d Touring (2018). I could not get the navigation system to recognise my voice and the steering wheel buttons had a "lag" of at least 200-500ms before changing anything (e.g. picking up a call, ending a call, cycling through the speedometer menu). A friend of mine drives a recent M5 which seems to be better and to be fair, BMW is one of the better brands in terms of UX. But driving a recent VW id.3 really aggravated me to the point I drove back to the renting place and got another car.

Maybe it's just preference and I prefer the snappier, cleaner interfaces of Asian cars instead of the "space ship" touchscreens with submenus upon submenus with lots of confusing options. I also didn't drive those cars long enough to "get" them, but when I test drove a Hyundai Ioniq 5 before buying it I could just immediately… drive and use it, intuitively understanding all knobs and buttons. Maybe I have an Asian brain in a German body or something.

sadly, Mastodon currently still is pretty centralised around a few very big instances. I hope the Fediverse gets more decentralised…

Thank you for your efforts to keep the community positive and the site running.

Please take care of yourself and watch out that you don't burn out. The one thing which is worse for a community than a stressed admin/mod is a burnt out one.

Your post sounds like (I am not a qualified professional, this is not a diagnosis!) you're currently in stage 3 (of 12, so 25% of the way to the end) of burnout, symptoms being Negligence of one's own needs (social contacts, rest and relaxation are no longer as important as before. One has the feeling that one cannot take time for this).

If that's really the case, try to hear your own needs and take a step back once you feel it's too much.

You just have to (encourage others to) register on an instance with less than, say, 1000 active users. I think that's already taking care of most of the issue.

🍿

Fetaverse 😂

Sitting yoga, talking a walk, lying flat on the ground and not a mattress for a while, changing seating position often, getting a better chair, static stretching, light aerobics, swimming.

They didn't claim it's distasteful, quite the opposite.

Good point. It's OK if they do that, but writing comments if you didn't engage at all with the content apart from the title is useless to everyone involved. I wish people started to understand this.

very abbreviated tl;dw: Adult content mattered because people could express and explore their sexual identity, not only LGBTQ+ people but everyone. After that disappeared, the users didn't want to interact with a corporate site which is trying to exploit them. It went from indie project to Verizon/Oath daughter company.

Wish these were articles, video is so slow.

That's part of the appeal for me. And that it's more visual with more pictures than the average article.

But you can also increase the speed to 2x, then it's faster (:

What's astonishing to me is that there is software which allows you to use your phone's keyboard as an input method for the PC. However, they didn't even think about it because they never needed to connect two devices together without them magically finding each other. Send a file? Do it through WhatsApp, even though the person stands right next to you.

yes, doesn't change that it's an issue.

Nice case, can you tell us which one it is, please?

If I would use a Raspi as a desktop, I'd install Arch Linux ARM or Armbian on it, however Raspberry Pi OS is probably also a good choice.

well, about that… it "catches fire" about once an hour and it's been interesting to try to automate problem resolution with scripts and clever rate limits. More on our uptime/SLA plans here: 📢 Buzzworthy SLA Announcement 🐝 (in !support by me)

Try No Man's Sky, it brought countless fun hours to my SO and I. Same for Satisfactory.

The UX could be a bit clearer, overall

Feel free to add suggestions to the devs' Issue tracker on Github (after searching for duplicates). Could take them a while to respond since they're very busy bees preparing the next big Lemmy release right now.

I can only promise that I respect you tons more than that Fuckface Apollo killer u/Spez!

thank you, it means the world to us :)
